    摘要: Due to the reconfiguration overhead of optical fabrics, batch scheduling method is generally used to schedule an optical packet switch, with a necessary speedup inside the switch to ensure 100% throughput with a bounded packet delay. Existing algorithms take each traffic matrix as a batch, and adopt traffic matrix decomposition techniques to decompose it into the sum of a set of weighted permutation matrices (which are then used as switch configurations). Nevertheless, existing algorithms adopt an equal weight for all switch configurations, meaning that each configuration should be held for the same time duration to transmit packets. We observe that this rigid strategy may limit the flexibility of the scheduling and result in a large speedup requirement due to inefficient time slot utilization. Motivated by this observation, we propose a UWS (Unequal Weight Sequence) algorithm to decompose the traffic matrix. UWS uses a different weight for each switch configuration. It first takes an arithmetic progression as the starting weight sequence, and then adjusts the weights for configurations to ensure 100% throughput with a bounded packet delay (such that QoS can be guaranteed). We theoretically prove that the worst case speedup of UWS will never be larger than that of the best existing ADAPT algorithm. Simulation results indeed demonstrate a speedup improvement of around 15%.

  • Design and Evaluation of Optical Circuit Switches for Intra-Datacenter Networking

    摘要: With the rapid growth in intra-datacenter traffic, the high power consumption stemming from the huge number of electrical switches is becoming a critical issue. Hence, high-port-count optical circuit switches are urgently needed. In this paper, we overview recently developed optical circuit switch architecture based on two-dimensional switches, i.e., space switches and wavelength-routing switches. The attainable maximum switch port counts and hardware requirements are quantitatively evaluated through extensive computer simulations that consider 10-Gbps intensity modulation with direct detection systems, 43-Gbps differential quadrature phase shift keying with self-coherent detection systems, and 128-Gbps dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying with coherent detection systems. The simulation results confirm the existence of switching architecture that can accommodate more than 1,000 ports with relatively light hardware requirements.

  • Design of a novel nanoscale high-performance phase-change silicon photonic switch

    摘要: We report the design of a novel high static performance on-off photonic switch by embedding the nanoscale phase-change material Ge2Sb2Te5 into a silicon-on-insulator waveguide. The state of the proposed switch can be changed using electrical/optical pulses, and no electrical bias is needed to maintain a particular state. The fundamental mode propagating through the silicon waveguide drastically alters its properties because of the large index change at the Si-Ge2Sb2Te5 interface and absorption in Ge2Sb2Te5. The photonic switch made of the silicon waveguide embedded with Ge2Sb2Te5 of volume 400 nm × 180 nm × 450 nm (length × height × width) provides a high extinction ratio of 43 dB with a low insertion loss of 2.76 dB in ON state at the communication wavelength of 1550 nm. There is a trade-off between the insertion loss and the extinction ratio. For 10 dB extinction ratio, the insertion loss can be as low as 1.2 dB with an extremely low active volume of 400 nm × 30 nm × 450 nm (length × height × width). Further, spectral response investigations reveal that this switch maintains an extinction ratio of more than 30 dB in the wavelength range of 1500–1600 nm. The high static performance of the photonic switch reported here is a direct consequence of the proper dimensions of the active volume of Ge2Sb2Te5 and its incorporation into the silicon-on-insulator waveguide. We also propose figure-of-merit for bias-free (nonvolatile) photonic switches that considers relevant parameters of static performance.

  • Integrable all-optical pass switch

    摘要: A completely new design for an all-silicon all-optical pass switch has been proposed based on the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in silicon nanocrystal embedded slotted photonic crystal waveguide (SPCW). Substantial miniaturisation in the device footprint and operating power has been attained by merging the benefits of the giant SRS gain and the ultra-high optical confinement of the SPCW. The proposed switch offers a tremendously high contrast ratio of (cid:1) 27 dB between the logic levels and an extraordinary bit rate of 125 Gbps.

  • Optical modulation of coherent phonon emission in optomechanical cavities

    摘要: Optomechanical (OM) structures are well suited to study photon-phonon interactions, and they also turn out to be potential building blocks for phononic circuits and quantum computing. In phononic circuits, in which information is carried and processed by phonons, OM structures could be used as interfaces to photons and electrons thanks to their excellent coupling efficiency. Among the components required for phononic circuits, such structures could be used to create coherent phonon sources and detectors, but more complex functions remain challenging. Here, we propose and demonstrate a way to modulate the coherent phonon emission from OM crystals by a photothermal effect induced by an external laser, effectively creating a phonon switch working at ambient conditions of pressure and temperature and the working speed of which is only limited by the build-up time of the mechanical motion of the OM structure. We additionally demonstrate two other modulation schemes: modulation of harmonics in which the mechanical mode remains active but different harmonics of the optical force are used, and modulation to and from a chaotic regime. Furthermore, due to the local nature of the photothermal effect used here, we expect this method to allow us to selectively modulate the emission of any single cavity on a chip without affecting its surroundings in the absence of mechanical coupling between the structures, which is an important step toward freely controllable networks of OM phonon emitters.

    摘要: In the field of low and medium voltage reactive power compensation, the switching of capacitor groups based on phase-controlled switching technology is a better way than others. However, the accuracy and reliability of contacts switching point are the key factors affecting the work efficiency. It is technically difficult to meet all the requirements. In recent years, ABB has proposed a phase-choosing model based on the hybrid device composed of semiconductor and mechanical switches, which has a certain effect on suppressing the transient effect of reactive power compensation. Based on the ABB model, this paper presents an optimization model of Y- connection hybrid switching system of vacuum switch and power electronic device, and studies the switching strategy of the model. The simulation and the tests show its effectiveness in suppressing transient problems. Compared with the traditional phase-controlled switch technology, the new scheme will help the switch work in a wide phase range for avoiding transient effect. It is demanded that the new method has more tolerance to the dispersion of the operating mechanism, and more benefit to the realization of the flexible phase -choosing technology.

We propose SchedOCS, a job scheduler for data-parallel frameworks in Hybrid-DCN that aims to take full advantage of the OCS to improve the job performance.

    摘要: A family of integrated set-up micro-inverter was proposed for the application of photovoltaic power generation system. The proposed inverters have the advantages of less power devices, simpler topology and higher integration and they can achieve voltage pump and invert at the same time. These topologies are suitable for the photovoltaic AC module which has low input voltage, small size and high integration. According to the existing integrated inverters, constructing the switch-diode (SD) unit through the traditional boost or buck-boost DC/DC converters, then proposing the switch-switch (SS) unit with bi-directional flow of the energy. At last, a family of integrated sep-up micro-inverter was derived by combining the SS unit. One of the proposed topologies was given as an example and verified by simulation prototype, which indicates that the topology can achieve the functions of voltage pump and inverting.

  • Multi-contact switch using double-dressing regularity of probe, fluorescence, and six-wave mixing in a Rydberg atom

    摘要: In this paper, we study the realization of a multi-contact switch using the double-dressing regularity of probe, fluorescence, and six-wave mixing signals in a five-level 85Rb atomic system. For the first time, we compare the dressing regularity of Rydberg states by observing electromagnetically induced transparency and signals. With the scanning probe and dressing fields, both large and small line shifts in signals are observed. The small line shifts are induced by double-dressed line shifts. Also, the big line shifts result from the Rydberg dressing. In addition, with an increase in the principal quantum number n of the Rydberg state, all the signals become weaker, while the line shifts of the signals become enhanced. Using the regularity in line shifts of the signals and an acoustic optical modulator to modulate the frequency detuning, we can realize a multi-contact switch action and fast conversion between different contacts.

  • A Reconfigurable and Extendable Single-Inductor Single-Path Three-Switch Converter for Indoor Photovoltaic Energy Harvesting

    摘要: This article proposes a single-path three-switch (1P3S) single-inductor dual-input dual-output (SIDIDO) converter to manage power among a photovoltaic (PV) module, battery, and load for indoor PV energy harvesting. For low duty-cycle applications, the 1P3S converter increases efficiency in the PV-to-battery-to-load path by eliminating inductor-sharing power switches. This article also proposes a reconfigurable controller to achieve reconfigurability and extendibility that the 1P3S converter can be reconfigured as a dual-path three-switch (2P3S) SIDIDO converter, combined as a dual-path six-switch (2P6S) SIDIDO converter, or extended as a paralleled-1P3S converter for high energy efficiency in various applications with different PV and load power profiles. To identify each converter’s advantageous applications, the efficiencies of the 1P3S, reconfigured 2P3S, and combined 2P6S converters were analyzed under dynamic PV and load powers. The chip is fabricated in the 0.5-μm CMOS process with a 1.24-mm2 chip area. The measured peak efficiencies for the 1P3S, 2P3S, and 2P6S converters are 95.0%, 95.2%, and 90.0%, respectively, while the measured quiescent currents are 210, 130, and 140 nA, respectively. Compared with the state-of-the-art 2P3S and 2P6S converters, the reconfigured 2P3S and combined 2P6S converters with the proposed IC, respectively, achieve higher efficiency through appropriate switch sizes and ON-time optimizations.
