Asymptotic Performance of Generalized Transmit Laser Selection Over Lognormal Turbulence Channels
摘要: In free space optical communication systems, transmit laser selection (TLS) has been proposed as an efficient fading-mitigation technique over turbulence channels. In TLS, the transmitter is equipped with a number of laser sources and the best laser source is selected for transmission. In practice, feedback error or outdated selection due to temporal changes in the channel may result in selecting another source rather than the best one. In this paper, we consider a FSOC system with generalized TLS (GTLS) where the nth best laser is selected among the available N lasers. Under the assumption of lognormal turbulence channels in addition to pointing errors, we derive a closed-form expression for asymptotic bit error rate. We use our derived closed-form expression to determine the diversity gains. We finally present simulation results to corroborate our analytical findings.

摘要: Visible light communication (VLC) has the potential to serve as a high-speed underwater wireless connectivity solution to support real-time image and video transmission. Underwater propagation medium imposes additional challenges on the design of VLC systems which were originally proposed for indoor applications. Temperature and salinity fluctuations result in fluctuations of the refractive index of seawater and eventually introduce turbulence-induced fading. In this paper, to mitigate the effects of fading, we propose transmit laser selection for a diver-to-diver underwater VLC link where the transmitter has multiple laser sources and the receiver has one photodetector. The source with the highest received instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio is selected for transmission while the remaining sources remain idle. We derive a closed-form expression for asymptotical bit error rate over log-normal distributed underwater turbulence channels and derive the achievable diversity order. We further present simulation results to confirm our derivations and diversity gain analysis.

Transmit laser selection for two hop decode and forward FSO communication with pointing errors
摘要: In this letter, two systems have been proposed for efficient unidirectional free space optical (FSO) cooperative communication-one with only transmit laser selection (TLS) and the other using optical spatial modulation (OSM) along with TLS. Performance analysis of such systems for Gamma-Gamma (G-G) fading channels both with and without Pointing errors have been carried out in terms of outage probability and average symbol error probability (ASEP). Our proposed TLS system over G-G channel (with pointing error) yields a signal to noise ratio (SNR) gain of at least 10 dBm over the conventional FSO system.
