  • Chiral Helical Polymer Nanomaterials with Tunable Morphology: Prepared with Chiral Solvent To Induce Helix-Sense-Selective Precipitation Polymerization

    摘要: We report an unprecedented strategy for using achiral monomer to construct chiral helical polymer nanomaterials with tunable morphology—helix-sense-selective precipitation polymerization induced by a chiral solvent (HSSPP-CS). CHCl3, chiral α-pinene, and an alkanol were employed to constitute a solvent mixture for performing HSSPP-CS. (R)- or (S)-α-pinene worked as chiral source and transferred its chirality to the resulting helical polyacetylenes derived from achiral monomer in the course of polymerization, thereby forming chiral helical polymers and endowing the nanomaterials thereof with optical activity. Simply changing solvent composition provided chiral polymer products varying in morphology from fibrous to rod-like and finally to spherical morphology. This is the first report dealing with chirality transfer from chiral solvent to induce helix-sense-selective precipitation polymerizations. The study establishes a straightforward and effective alternative for making use of achiral monomers to construct chiral helical polymer nanomaterials with diverse morphology.

    摘要: A novel tunable, stable and low-noise Brillouin ring laser layout composed of a doubly-resonant short-cavity Brillouin ring laser (DR-SC) paired with an active wavelength stabilization setup is presented in this work. Measurements of temporal signal stability, relative intensity noise, spectral linewidth and tunability range yielded a marked improvement over the long-cavity version that we have previously reported, making the new layout a promising alternative for applications in fiber sensing and other fields that require highly coherent and stable tunable sources.

  • Multi-wavelength colloidal quantum dot lasers in distributed feedback cavities

    摘要: Lasers with multi-wavelength colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) can be achieved using complex grating structures and ?exible substrate. The structure contains graduated periods and rectangular cavity fabricated through interference lithography, which acts as the distributed feedback cavity. A layer of densely packed CQD ?lm is deposited on the cavity via spin coating technique. The performance of CQD lasers based on di?erent distributed feedback cavities is investigated. Multi-wavelength lasing is achieved based on a ?exible rectangular cavity.

  • Phototuning Energy Transfer in Self-Organized Luminescent Helical Superstructures for Photonic Applications

    摘要: Stimuli-triggered changes in the emission color of functional materials are in demand for a variety of potential applications. Herein, a strategy to reversibly phototune fluorescence color in cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) with self-organized luminescent helical superstructure via fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) is developed. This dynamic FRET system is constructed by doping with 1,2-dithienyldicyanoethene-based chiral fluorescent photoswitch (switch 7) as an acceptor and a conventional coumarin dye C6 as a donor into a nematic liquid crystal (LC) host. The efficient energy transfer from C6 to switch 7 in the LC media, which is evidenced by both of emission color shift and enhanced circularly polarized luminescence, can be modulated on the basis of reversible trans–cis photoisomerization of switch 7 upon visible/UV light irradiations, leading to the emission color change from orange to green. Noteworthily, the FRET efficiency can be significantly improved when CLCs are confined in the polymer microtubes. Preliminary demonstrations of the LC film and LC microtubes array for information display and encryption with ease of electrical operation between planar, homeotropic, and focal conic states or light manipulation are described.

  • A phase-change thin film-tuned photonic crystal device

    摘要: This paper reports a tunable photonic device that incorporates a thin layer of phase-change material, Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST), in a photonic crystal (PC) structure. The PC structure is based on a one-dimensional grating waveguide with a metal cladding. The metal-cladded PC structure supports a guided-mode resonance (GMR) that selectively absorbs light at a particular wavelength. Inserting the GST material into the gating waveguide makes it possible to control the GMR mode. Here, the GST-PC device was numerically designed and optimized to obtain significant tuning of the GMR mode around 1550 nm. The tuning phenomena were experimentally demonstrated by the heat-induced phase change between crystalline and amorphous phases of the GST thin film. A spectral shift of the resonant wavelength from 1440 nm to 1610 nm was achieved via the crystallization process. The phase tuning of GST exhibits good repeatability as demonstrated by switching between amorphous and crystalline phases of GST for multiple cycles. The GST-PC device represents a new approach for tuning optical resonances with potential applications including but not limited to integrated photonic circuits, optical communications, and high-performance optical filters.

  • Color tunable upconversion luminescence and optical thermometry properties of mixed Gd2O3:Yb3+/Ho3+/Er3+ nanoparticles prepared via laser ablation in liquid

    摘要: The mixtures of Gd2O3:Yb3+/Er3+ and Gd2O3:Yb3+/Ho3+ nanoparticles were successfully prepared via pulsed laser ablation in liquid followed by solution mixing. Under excitation of 980 nm diode laser, tunable color from green to red emission was achieved. Based on the thermal linked energy levels, the temperature sensitive upconversion emission was observed. The fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of I513–530 nm/I530–580 nm increased as the elevation of temperature. The absolute sensitivity and relative sensitivity were derived from temperature dependent FIR. The results show that the mixture of Gd2O3:Yb3+/Er3+ and Gd2O3:Yb3+/Ho3+ nanoparticles are not only potential candidates for multicolor upconversion luminescence but also promising optical materials for non-contact optical thermometry.

  • EXPRESS: Influence of Line Pair Selection on Flame Tomography Using Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy

    摘要: We report the influence of absorption line selection on the tomographic results for high-temperature flames by numerical and experimental methods. Different combinations of infrared H2O absorption transitions are utilized with the Tikhonov-regularized Abel inversion to reconstruct the radial distribution of temperature and H2O concentration in a flat flame. It is shown that besides using the mathematical algorithm such as regularization, selecting a line pair with a large ΔE″ (> 1390 cm–1) also reduces the reconstruction uncertainty at 300–2000 K. In this study, a proper selection of absorption line pairs reduces the reconstruction uncertainty by 25% at the same level of noise. The line pair of H2O transitions at 4029.524 cm–1 and 4030.729 cm–1 is recommended for the tomography of high-temperature flames at 1000–3000 K, whereas the line pair of 7185.597 cm–1 and 7444.352 cm–1 can be used at 300–1000 K.

  • Simple Coupled-Line Tunable Bandpass Filter With Wide Tuning Range

    摘要: In this paper, a tunable bandpass filter using coupled line with a wide tuning range is proposed. The proposed filter has a simple structure which is composed of a coupled-line section and two pairs of varactors. Meanwhile, simultaneously tuning on bandwidth and center frequency are introduced by varactors. The tunability is mainly realized by varactors connected to one end of the coupled line and varactors between port and coupled line provides an impedance matching. A theoretical analysis is presented to illustrate the tunability by using even- and odd-mode theory. Additionally, the detailed effect of the two types of varactors is researched, respectively. To verify the concept, a prototype is designed, fabricated, and measured. The transmission zero exhibited in measurement is introduced by bias circuits. The measured results show that the tunable bandpass filter achieves a tunable center frequency of 0.494-1.257 GHz (87.15%) and a 3-dB bandwidth of 0.282-0.943 GHz (334%).

  • Tunable Chromaticity and High Color Rendering Index of WLEDs with CaAlSiN <sub/>3</sub> :Eu <sup>2+</sup> and YAG:Ce <sup>3+</sup> Dual Phosphora??ina??silicaa??glass

    摘要: Phosphors-in-glass (PiG), which serves as a potential bi-replacement of both phosphors and organic encapsulants in high-power white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), has captured much attention due to its high thermal stability and excellent luminescent properties. However, due to the high temperature-sensitivity and the chemical reactions between phosphors with glass matrix, a variety of phosphors, especially red phosphors could be hardly dispersed into the glass without thermal quenching and decomposition, which greatly limits the improvement of color rendering index and chromaticity tunability of the WLEDs. In this study, adopting the mesoporous silica (FDU-12) and commercial phosphors as raw materials, the phosphors-in-silica-glasses (PiSGs) embedded with red phosphor CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ and yellow phosphor YAG:Ce3+ have been successfully prepared at low sintering temperature (950 ?C) and short preparation time (10 min) using spark plasma sintering. Owing to the well preservation of the originally emissive properties of the embedded phosphors, the warm WLEDs with tunable chromaticity and exhibited a superior performance with LE of 133 lm/W, CCT of 3970 K and CRI of 81 were fabricated by encapsulating the as-prepared PiSGs on the blue chips. Moreover, the PiSG composite exhibits a high thermal conductivity up to 1.6 W/m·K.

  • Multilayer dielectric coated Fabry Perot spectral beam combiner for high power, narrowband, widely tunable laser applications

    摘要: Spectral beam combination of tunable laser beams demonstrated, using a multilayer dielectric coated single cavity Fabry Perot (FP) filter. A stack of 19 layers using TiO2 and SiO2 was optimally designed and fabricated using an electron beam evaporation technique. This filter was characterized for transmission spectrum, surface morphology and laser induced damage threshold. The sharp transmission spectrum facilitated the spectral combination of closer wavelengths (< 10 nm) around 632.8 nm. This filter was utilized as an efficient spectral beam combiner as well as an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) filter for the transmitting wavelength. This study finds direct application for tunable, multi-wavelength laser-based differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and atmospheric remote sensing applications. The application of this device was successfully demonstrated to spectrally combine high power, tunable copper vapor laser pumped dye laser beams. A mechanism to tune the FP transmission profile along with laser beam tunability was established.
