  • Static and dynamic effective thickness in five-layered glass plates

    摘要: In the last years, the effective thickness concept has been used to calculate deflections, stresses and modal parameters in laminated glass beams and plates, which consists of using a monolithic element with equivalent bending properties to a laminated element, i.e. the thickness of the equivalent monolithic model is time and temperature dependent because the interlayers show a viscoelastic behavior. Multi-layered laminated glass panels are those with at least three monolithic glass layers and two viscoelastic interlayers which are commonly used in floors, roofs and other applications where a high level of security is required. In this paper, a static deflection effective stiffness for a laminated glass plate consisting of three glass layers and two polymeric interlayers is derived. This static effective thickness is then extended to the frequency domain using the correspondence principle. The models are validated by static experimental tests and operational modal tests carried out on a rectangular multi-layered laminated glass plate pinned supported at the four corners.

  • Direct ink writing macroporous lead-free piezoelectric Ba <sub/>0.85</sub> Ca <sub/>0.15</sub> Zr <sub/>0.1</sub> Ti <sub/>0.9</sub> O <sub/>3</sub>

    摘要: Direct ink writing has become a widespread additive manufacturing technique for material engineering, but its application in lead-free Ba0.85Ca0.15Zr0.1Ti0.9O3 (BCZT) piezoelectric ceramics from aqueous systems has not been reported so far to our knowledge. The main obstacle is the high extent of hydrolysis reactions undergone by the starting powders when dispersed in water, hindering the attainment of stable water-based colloidal suspensions. This paper reports on the preparation of stable aqueous inks from a deagglomerated and surface treated powder synthesized by solid-state reaction and on direct ink writing of macroporous lead-free piezoelectrics. Based on zeta potential and rheological measurements, the optimal amounts of processing additives (dispersant, binder and coagulating agent) were selected to transform the initial fluid suspension to a viscoelastic paste with sufficient stiffness and stability for the printing process. Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of samples sintered under different temperatures were also investigated.

  • Tailored Nanopatterning by Controlled Continuous Nanoinscribing with Tunable Shape, Depth, and Dimension

    摘要: We present that the tailored nanopatterning with tunable shape, depth, and dimension for diverse application-specific designs can be realized by utilizing controlled dynamic nanoinscribing (DNI), which can generate bur-free plastic deformation on various flexible substrates via continuous mechanical inscription of a small sliced edge of a nanopatterned mold in a compact and vacuum-free system. Systematic controlling of prime DNI processing parameters including inscribing force, temperature, and substrate feed rate can determine the nanopattern depths and their specific profiles from rounded to angular shapes as a summation of the force-driven plastic deformation and heat-driven thermal deformation. More complex nanopatterns with gradient depths and/or multidimensional profiles can also be readily created by modulating the horizontal mold edge alignment and/or combining sequential DNI strokes, which otherwise demand laborious and costly procedures. Many practical user-specific applications may benefit from this study by tailor-making the desired nanopattern structures within desired areas, including precision machine and optics components, transparent electronics and photonics, flexible sensors, and reattachable and wearable devices. We demonstrate one vivid example in which the light diffusion direction of a light-emitting diode can be tuned by application of specifically designed DNI nanopatterns.

  • Development of a Near-infrared Laser-induced Surface Deformation Microscope and Its Application to the Dynamic Viscoelastic Measurements of Single Living Plant Cell Surfaces

    摘要: A near-infrared laser-induced surface deformation (NIR-LISD) microscope is developed and is applied to the dynamic viscoelastic measurements of the surface of a living plant cell. In the microscope, the deformation of the surface is induced by an NIR laser beam, and then the change in intensity of the probe beam reflected from the surface reflects its viscoelasticity. The application of the NIR laser beam has a great advantage for the prevention of damage to the plant cell compared to the irradiation of a visible laser beam in LISD measurements. The NIR-LISD microscope allows for discriminating the differences in power spectra between the subapical and lateral regions of single rhizoids. It is a useful method for the dynamic viscoelastic measurements of cells, such as plant cells, that are damaged due to the strong absorption of ultraviolet or visible light.

  • On the Kramers-Kronig relations

    摘要: We provide a new derivation of the Kramers-Kronig relations on the basis of the Sokhotski-Plemelj equation with detailed mathematical justifications. The relations hold for a causal function, whose Fourier transform is regular (holomorphic) and square-integrable. This implies analyticity in the lower complex plane and a Fourier transform that vanishes at the high-frequency limit. In viscoelasticity, we show that the complex and frequency-dependent modulus describing the stiffness does not satisfy the relation but the modulus minus its high-frequency value does it. This is due to the fact that despite its causality, the modulus is not square-integrable due to a non-null instantaneous response. The relations are obtained in addition for the wave velocity and attenuation factor. The Zener, Maxwell, and Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic models illustrate these properties. We verify the Kramers-Kronig relations on experimental data of sound attenuation in seabottoms sediments.

  • Assessment of UVA-Riboflavin Corneal Cross-Linking Using Small Amplitude Oscillatory Shear Measurements

    摘要: The effect of ultraviolet (UV)–riboflavin cross-linking (CXL) has been measured primarily using the strip extensometry technique. We propose a simple and reliable methodology for the assessment of CXL treatment by using an established rheologic protocol based on small amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS) measurements. It provides information on the average cross-link density and the elastic modulus of treated cornea samples. METHODS. Three fresh postmortem porcine corneas were used to study the feasibility of the technique, one serving as control and two receiving corneal collagen cross-linking treatment. Subsequently, five pairs of fresh postmortem porcine corneas received corneal collagen cross-linking treatment with riboflavin and UVA-irradiation (370 nm; irradiance of 3 mW/cm2) for 30 minutes (Dresden protocol); the contralateral porcine corneas were used as control samples. After the treatment, the linear viscoelastic moduli of the corneal samples were measured using SAOS measurements and the average cross-linking densities extracted. RESULTS. For all cases investigated, the dynamic moduli of the cross-linked corneas were higher compared to those of the corresponding control samples. The increase of the elastic modulus of the treated samples was between 122% and 1750%. The difference was statistically significant for all tested samples (P ? 0.018, 2-tailed t-test). CONCLUSIONS. We report a simple and accurate methodology for quantifying the effects of cross-linking on porcine corneas treated with the Dresden protocol by means of SAOS measurements in the linear regime. The measured dynamic moduli, elastic and viscous modulus, represent the energy storage and energy dissipation, respectively. Hence, they provide a means to assess the changing physical properties of the cross-linked collagen networks after CXL treatment.
