  • 70?nm, broadly tunable passively Q-switched thulium-doped fiber laser with few-layer Mo0.8W0.2S2 saturable absorber

    摘要: In this work, a thin Mo0.8W0.2S2 film is proposed and fabricated for the use as a saturable absorber (SA) in a thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL) cavity. The few-layer Mo0.8W0.2S2 nanoparticles are obtained through hydrothermal exfoliation as a thin film and suspended in a polymer host, which is then placed between two fiber ferrules to serve as an SA. The proposed laser is capable of generating outputs with a maximum repetition rate of 65.79 kHz and a minimum pulse width of 1.84 μs at the maximum pump power of 168.92 mW, as well as pulse energies and peak powers as high as 35.73 nJ and 13.92 mW. The laser also has a broad tuning output from 1927.2 nm to 1996.8 nm, giving a tuning band of about 70 nm. The generated pulses are stable with a signal-to-noise ratio of 50.0 dB. The proposed laser has a high potential for operation near the 2000 nm wavelength region, with multiple bio-medical and sensing applications.

  • Switchable and dual-wavelength self-Q-switched fiber laser based on a homemade Er/Yb double clad fiber and polarization maintaining fiber Bragg grating

    摘要: We report an experimental study on the self-Q-switched operation of a linear cavity fiber laser based on a homemade Er/Yb double clad fiber as gain medium. The parameters of the self-Q-switched pulses depend on the active fiber length of 2, 3, and 4 m. With a maximum fiber length of 4 m, stable self-Q-switched pulses are obtained for the whole 976 nm pump range, with a minimum pulse duration of 1.24 μs and a maximum repetition rate of 92.57 kHz. When the fiber length is shortened to 2 m, the range of the pump power level, at which the self-Q-switched operation is attained, is significantly diminished. Besides, dual-wavelength and switchable single-wavelength laser operations of the fiber laser are achieved by using a polarization maintaining fiber Bragg grating as spectral filter. Laser wavelengths at 1536.7 and 1537.1 nm with a line-width of 0.4 nm are obtained. The maximum average output power for the Q-switched laser operating in the dual-wavelength regime is 472 mW.

  • Wavelength-tunable single-frequency ytterbium-doped fiber laser based on a double-circulator interferometer

    摘要: We reported a novel type of wavelength-tunable single-frequency ytterbium-doped fiber laser based on a double-circulator compound cavity and a section of unpumped ytterbium-doped fiber. The multi-longitudinal-mode oscillations are suppressed by the double-circulator structure and the single frequency operation is obtained finally by the standing wave grating in the unpumped ytterbium-doped fiber. The central wavelength of the laser beam is selected by a tunable filter ranging from 1040 nm to 1080 nm. The results show that the side mode suppression ratio in this range is greater than 47 dB and the maximum value is 58 dB at 1070.06 nm. The observed maximum wavelength fluctuation and power variation at 1060 nm are 0.012 nm and 0.22 dB during 1 h, respectively. The mean value of the linewidth in this range is 2.82 kHz and the minimum value of the linewidth at 1060 nm is 2.38 kHz. The relaxation oscillation frequency is right on 94 kHz.

  • L-Band Efficient Dissipative Soliton Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser with a Pulse Energy of 6.15 nJ and 3 dB Bandwidth of 47.8 nm

    摘要: Here, an efficient dissipative soliton mode-locked fiber laser in the L-band using nonlinear polarization rotation technology is demonstrated. With a maximum pump power of 495.3 mW and polarization state optimization, the fiber laser delivers a maximum output power of 68.6 mW with an 11.16 MHz repetition rate and a corresponding single pulse energy of 6.15 nJ. The dissipative soliton spectrum is centered at 1599.6 nm with a 3 dB bandwidth of 47.8 nm. The full width at half maximum of the compressed pulse is 156 fs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest single pulse energy reported so far for an L-band passively mode-locked all-fiber laser.

  • 220 W Raman fiber laser at 1.24 μm based on phosphosilicate fiber

    摘要: A Raman fiber laser with more than 220 W output at 1.24 μm with phosphorus-doped single-mode fiber as gain medium is reported. The laser consists of a 30 m long piece of fiber and a pair of fiber Bragg gratings with different bandwidth, pumped with a high power 1064 nm Yb fiber laser. The optical conversion efficiency is 64% and the slope efficiency is 71.4%. The full width half-maximum linewidth at the maximum output is 5.6 nm. To the best of our knowledge, the reported power is an order magnitude higher than previous reports in phosphosilicate fiber Raman laser.

  • Passively Q-switched and mode-locked Tm-Ho co-doped fiber laser using a WS2 saturable absorber fabricated by chemical vapor deposition

    摘要: We demonstrate a passively Q-switched and mode-locked Tm-Ho co-doped fiber laser based on a WS2 saturable absorber (SA) fabricated by chemical vapor deposition method. When the pump power increases from 0.32 W to 0.38 W, the repetition rate of the Q-switched laser pulse increases 47.1 kHz to 90.1 kHz and the pulse width decreases from 6.2 μs to 1.7 μs. In addition, the mode-locking operation can also be observed by adjusting the polarization controller (PC) and mode-locked laser pulses at 1883.2 nm can be achieved at a high pump power between 0.5 W and 0.64 W. The pulse duration is 1.07 ns and repetition rate is 23.8 MHz and the pulse is the longest mode-locked pulse with WS2-SA ever reported.

  • Polarization induced non-reciprocal phase controlled all-fiber loop mirror based inclinometer

    摘要: An optical fiber inclinometer based on non-reciprocal phase change effect in a single-mode fiber loop mirror (FLM) is proposed. The phase of light waves in FLM is controlled by two-phase shifters (PSs). The relationship between the inclination angles and phase differences of the two-PSs, and transmitted light power was derived by Jones calculus. The signature of the birefringence obtained through simulation on the output light has been confirmed by experimentation. From the results, it was found that when the birefringence of the two-PSs are different, two measurement sensitivities (17.07 × 10?3 deg?1 and 21.37 × 10?3 deg?1) can be realized with one angle measurement system. We also report a method for changing measurable ranges, and measurement sensitivity. Since the angle can be directly measured from the transmitted light power, the results of this work contribute to the realization of simple and low-loss inclinometers using standard single-mode fiber.

  • Mode-locked thulium doped fiber laser with zinc oxide saturable absorber for 2?μm operation

    摘要: In this work, a 2.0-micron mode-locked thulium doped fiber laser is demonstrated using zinc oxide (ZnO) as the saturable absorber (SA) in a thulium doped fiber laser (TDFL). The ZnO nanorods was prepared by the facile hydrothermal method, and then embedded in polyethylene oxide composite film to form the SA. The laser is capable of generating soliton pulses at a central wavelength of 1945.45 nm with a 3-dB bandwidth of 3.47 nm. The pulse width is measured to be 1.395 ps, only slightly higher than the calculated transform-limited pulse width of 1.15 ps. The peak power of the generated mode-locked pulses is then calculated to be as high as 41.88 W, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 50.5 dB. The fabricated ZnO film in this work would allow the generation of mode-locked pulses, which could be useful for applications in spectroscopy and medicine due to the eye-safe and highly sensitive nature of the 2.0-micron region.

  • 25 nJ, 634 ps and 1 MHz all-fiber passively mode-locked fiber laser based on a GaAs saturable absorber

    摘要: We demonstrate an all-fiber passively mode-locked Tm-Ho co-doped fiber laser based on a GaAs saturable absorber (SA) fiber laser at 1875.2 nm. With a 10% output coupler, the fiber laser outputs 1.13 MHz, 634 ps and 25 nJ pulses at 1875.2 nm with a 3 dB-bandwidth of 18.4 nm. The Q-switched mode-locking (QML), the mode-locking at fundamental repetition rate (FRR) and the mode-locking at second harmonic of repetition rate (SHRR) are also observed with the increase of the pump power. The main reason of the SHRR is soliton pulse energy quantization effect.
