  • Frequency Hopping and Parallel Driving with Random Delay Especially Suitable for the Charger Noise Problem in Mutual-Capacitive Touch Applications

    摘要: Charger noise can cause inaccurate touch points and fake touch points to appear; this can cause a device to behave incorrectly. The intensity of charger noise could be much larger than the intensities of the original touch signals. Furthermore, the frequency of charger noise varies for each different charger. Therefore, industry experts have identified charger noise as the most difficult problem in capacitive touch applications. The demand for a solution to this problem has become crucial for the mobile market. In this paper, we prove that a particular combination of frequency hopping and repeated integration is an effective method to handle the problem. In addition, we propose an efficient discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based algorithm to select an effective sensing frequency. We propose parallel driving with random delay to enhance signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We show an efficient hardware-software co-design that facilitates the application of our methods in touch ICs. Experimental results show that our methods can increase SNR by over 45 dB and can find an effective sensing frequency fast and dynamically.

    摘要: A fully-integrated 25Gbps low-noise optical receiver is presented that integrates a Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA), Continuous-Time Linear Equalizer (CTLE), high gain and high bandwidth Limiting Amplifier (LA), and Clock and Data-Recovery (CDR) into a single die. The TIA employs an inverter-based pseudo differential TIA with Cross-Coupled Negative Gm pair and a Negative capacitor to increase the signal bandwidth, while a MOSFET Corner Compensation (MCC) circuit compensates for the CMOS corner variation. An Automatic Gain Control (AGC) scheme is proposed that solves the group delay issue caused by TIA input impedance variation from small input to overload current. Finally, a 2x-oversampling CDR using a bang-bang phase detector is included. The 850nm VCSEL-based full-link measurement results show that the optical receiver achieves a sensitivity (BER<1e-12) of 52uApp (RSSI Current=51uA, ER=4.89dB) with a 150fF Photodiode from the 3.3V and 1.3V supplies, respectively.

    摘要: Based on carrier number fluctuation model, 1/f noise is analyzed for organic thin-film transistors (TFTs) at low drain voltage. The carrier mobility is gate-voltage-dependent, and is described by a power-law function. The mobility power-law parameter α determines the relationship between drain current noise power spectral density (PSD) SIDS and drain current IDS, and it is found that SIDS /I 2 DS when α = 1. It is different from the well-known rule for the MOSFETs with the constant carrier mobility: When SIDS /I 2 DS , Hooge’s mobility fluctuation model dominates the 1/f noise.

    摘要: Ground penetrating radar (GPR) has been used in the many aspects, such as civil engineering and the earth sciences. And the analysis and noise suppression of GPR data have always been the research focus. In this study, a new self-adaptive time-frequency decomposition tool called the variational mode decomposition (VMD) is introduced. We use the VMD method to derive a set of stationary sub-components, and based on the decomposition, we separate the valid signals and the components which are corresponded to the noise. One trace of GPR data are given to test the effect of the VMD decomposition, and the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is also employed as a comparison. And a primary noise-suppression method based on the VMD scheme is also proposed. The application of the field GPR data further demonstrates the better performance of the proposed method in both noise suppression and the retention of geophysical events.

  • Low Frequency Noise Characteristics in Multilayer MoTe2 FETs with Hydrophobic Amorphous Fluoropolymers

    摘要: This paper investigates the low-frequency noise (LFN) properties of multilayer MoTe2 field effect transistors (FETs) before and after hydrophobic amorphous polymer (CYTOP) encapsulation in the subthreshold and linear regimes. Noise spectrum density of drain current (SID) shows that the low-frequency noise in multilayer MoTe2 FETs nicely fits to a 1/fγ power law with γ~1 in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 200 Hz. From the dependence of SID on the drain current, carrier number fluctuation(Δn) is considered as a dominant low frequency noise mechanism from all operation regimes in multilayer MoTe2 FETs. Extracted trap density(Nt) based on McWhorter model in this study was reduced at least more than one order level, as compared to multilayered MoTe2 FETs without CYTOP passivation.

    摘要: Temperature-dependent electrical behavior and trap effect in AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMT) were investigated at temperatures ranging from 25°C to 125°C. The experiment results show that transfer curves negatively shift and transconductance degrades with the increase in temperature at DC and pulsed conditions, meanwhile, gate leakage current increases significantly. Besides, the shift variation of pulsed transfer curves becomes larger at the elevated temperature and static bias states. This mechanism could be attributed to the enhancement of electron-assisted tunneling ability and easily escaping from the traps for trapped electrons at higher temperature. These traps were confirmed on the base of low frequency noise technique under different temperatures, and the extracted activation energy is 0.521eV for the present devices. The above results may provide useful guidance for design and application of the AlGaN/GaN HEMT.

  • Two-Branch Fiber Link for International Clock Networks

    摘要: We present our work on realizing two-branch fiber links enabling multiple-partner clock comparisons in Europe. We report in detail on the setup connecting two long-haul links and report for the relative frequency stability and accuracy. We report on a combined uptime of 90% for our dual-branch link during almost 1 month. We finally discuss the combined uncertainty contribution of the ensemble of the link architecture to a clock comparison. We show that the frequency transfer uncertainty is 2 × 10^{-19}.

    摘要: The problem of joint direction-of-arrival (DOA) and range estimation of near-field multiple sources under α-stable distributed impulsive noise environments is studied in this paper. The proposed algorithm constructs the MUSIC spectral spectrum based on the noise subspace which is obtained by applying the propagator method on the fractional lower order statistical matrix of the array received signal, and then estimates the multiple sources’ DOA and range parameters by the spectral peak search. Compared with the corresponding algorithms based on second-order statistics, the proposed algorithm can effectively suppress the impulse noise by using the fractional lower-order statistics. At same time, the inherent large computational complexity of the eigenvalue decomposition based methods can also be avoided. Simulation experiments prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Adaptive Fuzzy Switching Noise Reduction Filter for Iris Pattern Recognition

    摘要: Noise reduction is a necessary procedure for the iris recognition systems. This paper proposes an adaptive fuzzy switching noise reduction (AFSNR) filter to reduce noise for iris pattern recognition. The proposed low complexity AFSNR filter removes noise pixels by fuzzy switching between an adaptive median filter and the filling method. The threshold values of AFSNR filter are calculated on the basis of the histogram statistics of eyelashes, pupils, eyelids, and light illumination. The experimental results on the CASIA V3.0 iris database, with genuine acceptance rate equals 99.72%, show the success of the proposed method.

  • Spoof Plasmon Interconnects— Communications beyond RC Limit

    摘要: T HE inception of spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) mode realized in planar, patterned conductors to manage light beyond diffraction limit at a chosen frequency garnered significant attention of late. We show that, an SSPP channel can be chosen to act in two distinct ways: first, as a regular RC limited electrical interconnect at low frequencies; and second, as an exotic, beyond RC limit communication channel near its resonant frequency by binding the electromagnetic field on its surface to the elimination of capacitance C. A dynamic transformation between these two modes can constitute an energy economic, tera-scale inter-chip hybrid communication network. We have investigated theoretical limits on the information transfer capability of SSPP interconnects. We show that, a geometry dependent trade-off relation between cross-talk limited bandwidth density and information traveling length emerges in SSPP based communication networks. According to our analysis, a bandwidth density of 1 Gbps/μm is attainable in SSPP communication network with ~ 10 mm information transfer distance, where each channel can carry ~ 300 Gbps information with nominal cross-talk.
