  • Application of Co-Mo bimetal/carbon composite in dye-sensitized solar cells and its research on synergy mechanism

    摘要: Bimetal/carbon aerogels have many advantages, such as nano-scale properties, low density, large specific surface area, and high porosity, but their application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as a counter electrode (CE) instead of noble metal Pt is relatively rare. In this paper, a low-cost sodium alginate was used to obtain a Co-Mo bimetal/carbon composite through a simple and controlled carbonization process. Using them as CEs of ZnO-based DSSCs, the filling characteristics of dye can be effectively improved. When the Co2+/Mo2+ molar ratio is 1:3, the photoelectric conversion efficiency of Co-Mo bimetal/ carbon composite–based DSSCs is close to the photoelectric conversion efficiency of Pt based, which is considered to be the result of the synergy of the carbon and two metal ions.

  • Three-dimensional architectures assembled with branched metal nanoparticle-encapsulated nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube arrays for absorption of electromagnetic wave

    摘要: Three-dimensional magnetic metal nanoparticle-encapsulated nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube arrays (3D M@NCNTS) are fabricated through a facile method. The unique 3D architectures have abundant defects, various N dopants, numerous interfaces, and void spaces. Benefitting from the advantages above, our designed 3D M@NCNTSs exhibit excellent electromagnetic wave absorption properties including strong attenuation abilities, thin thickness of absorber film, and low filler mass loading, superior to most of reported magnetic metal-based absorbers. Typically, the minimal reflection loss of the optimized 3D architecture is – 49.82 dB at a frequency of 7.92 GHz, and efficient absorption bandwidth is 4 GHz as the thickness of the absorber film is merely 2 mm. Furthermore, we also find that the dielectric losses of the 3D architectures can be tuned by the metal composition. Thus, the controllable electromagnetic wave absorption properties can be achieved. Our strategy here may be extended to synthesize other types of 3D architectures as high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbers.

  • Enhanced NO2 gas-sensing properties of Au-Ag bimetal decorated MWCNTs/WO3 composite sensor under UV-LED irradiation

    摘要: Novel NO2 gas sensors that were made of Ag, Au and Au-Ag bimetal particles modified composite of multi-walled carbon nanotubes/tungsten oxide (Ag/MWCNTs/WO3, Au/MWCNTs/WO3 and Au-Ag/MWCNTs/WO3) were fabricated for sensing ppb-level NO2 gas under ultraviolet light emitting diode (UV-LED) irradiation. The effects of Ag, Au and Au-Ag bimetal decoration and under UV-LED irradiation on the response of the Ag/MWCNTs/WO3, Au/MWCNTs/WO3 and Au-Ag/MWCNTs/WO3 sensors for sensing NO2 gas were studied. The gas-sensing properties in the detection of a low concentration of NO2 gas of the Au-Ag/MWCNTs/WO3 composite were superior to bare MWCNTs/WO3, Au/MWCNTs/WO3 and Ag/MWCNTs/WO3 under UV-LED irradiation. The Au-Ag/MWCNTs/WO3 composite sensor showed responses of 28–262 % at NO2 concentrations ranging from 100 to 500 ppb under UV-LED irradiation. These responses were 2–5 times higher than that of the bare MWCNTs/WO3 composite sensor at the same NO2 concentration range. The substantial improvement in the response of the bare MWCNTs/WO3 composite to NO2 gas by its decoration with Au-Ag bimetal particles may be attributed to the enhanced catalytically active sites and photocatalytic activity. A reasonable mechanism for enhancing sensitivity was proposed.

  • A one-pot synthesis of colloidal Ag–Au nanoparticles with controlled composition

    摘要: We report a one-pot synthesis method for a production of a stable Ag–Au bimetal colloidal solutions (Ag–Au hydrosols) by simply mixing disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Na2EDTA) with AgNO3 and HAuCl4 in aqueous alkaline medium at 80 °C. We found that Na2EDTA act not only as a reductant of metal ions and a potent stabilizer of metal nanoparticle size, but also as an effective agent for controlling the composition of the formed nanoparticles, owing to the high complexing affinity of Na2EDTA to silver ions. It was found that by controlling Na2EDTA concentration in the reaction mixture it is possible to control not only size and size distribution of a synthesized colloidal bimetallic Ag–Au nanoparticles, but bimetallic Ag–Au nanoparticles composition (Ag/Au ratio) as well.
