  • Effect of BaZr <sub/>0.4</sub> Ti <sub/>0.6</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> addition on electrical and magnetic properties of multiferroic (1-x)BiFeO <sub/>3</sub> -xBaTiO <sub/>3</sub> ceramics

    摘要: The 0.75((1-x)BiFeO3-xBaTiO3)-0.25BaZr0.4Ti0.6O3 or 0.75(BFO-BTO)-0.25BZT ceramics (x = 0.23–0.27) have been prepared by solid state reaction method to studied the relationship between phase formation, dielectric and magnetic properties. The results found that the phase formations of calcined BFO-BTO and BZT powders are distorted rhombohedral and cubic structure, respectively. Moreover, the addition of BZT in BFO-BTO-BZT ceramics affected to the phase change dramatically according to increasing of BZT content compared to calcined BFO-BTO powders. All the samples showed cubic perovskite structure. The room temperature dielectric properties decreased with increasing of BTO content, the highest dielectric constant with low losses observed in 0.75(0.77BFO-0.23BTO)-0.25BZT ceramic. Furthermore, the ceramics displayed maximum dielectric constant temperature (Tm) above 360 °C. Interestingly, all ceramic compositions exhibited typical ferromagnetic hysteresis loop and the highest remanent magnetization observed in 0.75(0.77BFO-0.23BTO)-0.25BZT ceramic.

  • High room-temperature pyroelectric property in lead-free BNT-BZT ferroelectric ceramics for thermal energy harvesting

    摘要: Pyroelectrics are attracting increasing attention because they enable pyroelectric generators to extract energy from low-gradient-temperature heat for portable electronic devices. High pyroelectric coefficient around room temperature is essential for high-performance energy harvesters, which, unfortunately, is only commonly achieved in lead-based ferroelectrics. Herein we report a high room temperature pyroelectric response of 27.2 × 10-4 C m-2 K-1 in 0.94(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-0.06Ba(Ti0.75Zr0.25)O3 lead-free ceramics by modulating the Zr4+/Ti4+ ratio to tune the ferroelectric-relaxor antiferroelectric-like phase transition point to around ambient temperature, whose pyroelectric response is one order of magnitude higher than that of the sample without Zr and even comparable to those of lead-containing pyroelectrics. The theoretical analysis revealed that introduced Zr4+ could incorporate into the TiO6 octahedral lattices and break the long-range translational symmetry of BaTiO3 lattices, resulting in the reduction of B-site ion displacement activation energy and transition point of ferroelectric-relaxor antiferroelectric-like phase, giving rise to a pronounced room-temperature pyroelectric effect in BNT-BZT.

  • Ultra-low hysteresis electric field-induced strain with high electrostrictive coefficient in lead-free Ba(Zr Ti1-)O3 ferroelectrics

    摘要: From the application point of view, high electric field-induced strain with ultra-low hysteresis or hysteresis-free characteristic is highly desired in high-precision displacement actuators. In this work, lead-free Ba(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (BZT) ferroelectrics with x in the range between 0.02 and 0.1 were fabricated by a conventional solid state reaction method. The structural evolution and electrical properties were investigated systematically with an emphasis on electrostrictive effect. As x increases from 0.02 to 0.1, the crystal lattice parameters (a and c axes) increase while the tetragonality (c/a-1) goes down. In addition, the Curie temperature (TC) of BZT decreases gradually, while the temperatures corresponding to tetragonal-to-orthorhombic (T-O) and orthorhombic-to-rhombohedral (O-R) phase transitions increase. Ultra-low hysteresis (<8%) and high electric field-induced strains (>0.15% at 60 kV/cm) are observed in all studied compositions. Most importantly, a high longitudinal electrostrictive coefficient Q33 (0.0453 m4/C2) was also identified in x=0.1 composition. This work not only reports high electric field-induced strains with ultra-low hysteresis and high Q33 in lead-free BZT ferroelectrics, but also indicates a potential application for BZT ceramics in high-precision displacement actuators.

  • Effect of doping Gd2O3 on dielectric and piezoelectric properties of BaZr0.1Ti0.9O3 ceramics by sol–gel method

    摘要: The effects of sintering temperature and doping amount of gadolinium ions on the microstructures and electrical properties of sol gel derived Ba (Zr0.1Ti0.9) O3 + xGd ceramics were investigated in this manuscript. XRD analysis showed that the main crystalline phase of BZT-xGd ceramic samples exhibit a perovskite structure without significantly change. The sample sintered at 1350 °C and doped with gadolinium ions of 0.5 mol% has uniform grain size and compact morphology. And the sample(1350 °C—0.5 mol%) also has a high piezoelectric charge coefficient of 131.33 pC/N, large plane electromechanical coupling coefficient of 0.22, high dielectric constant of 10504, and small dielectric loss of 0.01. The correlation of dielectric and piezoelectric properties of BZT-xGd ceramics with doping amount of Gd3+ ion has been explained by the lattice theory.
