  • Preparation and measurement of subwavelength bilayer metal wire grid polarizers on flexible plastic substrates

    摘要: This paper presents a process for the fabrication of subwavelength bilayer metal wire grid polarizers and describes the performance characterization of polarizers that were produced using the proposed method. These polarizers have a period of 278 nm and were fabricated on flexible plastic substrates using nanoimprint lithography followed by an aluminum deposition process. Transmission efficiency in excess of 0.55 and an extinction ratio of more than 32 dB were achieved in the visible range when the aluminum layer thickness of the polarizer was 70 nm. When a polarization analyzer with a six-channel sensor prototype was tested, an average error of 0.2002? was obtained, with a maximum error of 1.105? and a standard deviation of 0.7255?. The proposed fabrication method will be suitable for many applications in optics, including the manufacture of compound eye structures.

  • Broadband Plasmonic Polarization Filter Based on Photonic Crystal Fiber with Dual-Ring Gold Layer

    摘要: Polarization ?lter is a very important optical device with extinction characteristics. Due to the design ?exibility of photonic crystal ?bers and the high excitation losses of the gold layer, the polarization ?lter based on the photonic crystal ?ber and surface plasmonic resonance e?ect is widely studied. Considering these, we present a simple and high-performance polarization ?lter using the ?nite element method. Numerical simulations show that there is a large di?erence in energy between the two polarization directions by reasonable adjustment of the structural parameters, the con?nement loss in the x-pol direction is less than that in the y-pol direction, which is suitable to realize a broadband polarization ?lter. When the ?ber length is 2 mm, the extinction ratio peak can reach ?478 dB, and the bandwidth with the extinction ratio better than ?20 dB is 750 nm, which covers communication wavelengths of 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm (1.05–1.8 μm). It also has a low insertion loss of 0.11 dB at 1.31 μm and 0.04 dB at 1.55 μm. In addition, our design has high feasibility in fabrication and better tolerance. The proposed ?lter with compactness, high extinction ratio, broad bandwidth, and low insertion loss would play an important role in the sensing detection, bio-medical, and telecommunication ?eld.

  • Plasmonic nanoslit-based dual-wavelength multiplexer

    摘要: A novel plasmonic dual-wavelength multiplexer to couple free-space waves to metal–insulator–metal (MIM) waveguides is proposed, designed and simulated. The proposed structure is based on two nanoslits carved on a metal film. Through an appropriate spacing between the nanoslits, it is possible to design this structure to couple two different wavelengths onto MIM modes such that they propagate in the same direction. The designed structure is simulated using FEM technique, and results for circular and plane wave fronts are demonstrated. High extinction ratio of greater than 10 dB is obtained in all the cases.

    摘要: The modal properties and modulation characteristics of the fundamental gap mode supported by nanowire based symmetrical IMI graphene hybrid plasmonic waveguide are investigated employing the finite element method. The proposed modulator even with its remarkably small footprint offers both high extinction ratio (as high as 40 dB) and large modulation bandwidth (as large as 237 GHz) simultaneously with only 2.4 μm long active region at the telecommunication wavelength. The optical capacitance effect along with IMI like mode coupling are reported here for this improved modulation performance. Furthermore, a deep subwavelength mode size (~λ2/400) with low energy consumption per bit (as small as 0.9 fJ/bit) suggests its highly dense integration in photonic integrated circuits. Also, the performance variation of this waveguide is explored with respect to the alteration of operating wavelength and cross-sectional geometry.

  • Near-Field Enhancement and Polarization Selection of a Nano-System for He-Ne Laser Application

    摘要: In this paper, we focus on transmission behavior based on the single aperture with a scatter. Both the near-field enhancement and polarization selection can be achieved numerically with a proposed nano-system under He-Ne laser wavelength. The nano-system consists of an Ag antenna, a wafer layer, an Ag film with an aperture and a dielectric substrate. Numerical results show that the near-field enhancement is related to the FP-like resonance base on surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in the metal–isolator–metal (MIM) waveguide for transverse magnetic (TM) polarization. The near-field optical spot is confined at the aperture export with a maximal electric intensity 20 times the value of the incident field for an antenna length of 430 nm. The transmission cutoff phenomenon for transverse electric (TE) polarization is because the transmission is forbidden for smaller aperture width. High extinction ratios of 9.6 × 10?8 (or 70.2 dB) and 4.4 × 10?8 (or 73.6 dB) with antenna lengths of 130 nm and 430 nm are achieved numerically with the nano-system. The polarization selective property has a good angular tolerance for oblique angles smaller than 15?. The spectral response is also investigated. We further demonstrate that the nano-system is applicable for another incident wavelength of 500 nm. Our investigation may be beneficial for the detection of polar molecules or local nano polarized nanosource.

  • High extinction ratio integrated optical modulator for quantum telecommunication systems

    摘要: A method for increasing the extinction ratio of integrated optical Mach-Zehnder modulators based on LiNbO3 via the photorefractive effect is proposed. The influence of the photorefractive effect on the X- and Y-splitters of intensity modulators is experimentally studied. An increase in the modulator extinction ratio by 17 dB (from 30 to 47 dB) is obtained. It is shown that fabricated modulators with a high extinction ratio are important for quantum key distribution systems.
