  • Comparing Dry Eye Disease After Small Incision Lenticule Extraction and Laser Subepithelial Keratomileusis

    摘要: To compare dry eye disease parameters between small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and laser subepithelial keratomileusis (LASEK). This prospective, nonrandomized study included 39 eyes of 39 patients who underwent SMILE (n = 19) and LASEK (n = 20). Dry eye disease parameters included Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), tear breakup time, Schirmer I test (SIT) value, corneal esthesiometry result, tear meniscus area, meibomian gland evaluation result, lipid layer thickness, and blink rate. Evaluations were performed before surgery and at 1 and 6 months after surgery. Compared with the LASEK group, the SMILE group showed lower corneal esthesiometry values at 1 month and higher OSDI scores and lower SIT values at 6 months after surgery. The SMILE group showed significantly higher OSDI scores at 1 and 6 months after surgery than before, but significantly lower OSDI scores at 6 months than at 1 month showed significantly decreased after corneal sensitivity at 1 month after surgery, which increased to the preoperative level 6 months after surgery. The change in OSDI scores at 1 month after surgery positively correlated with changes in the total and partial blink rates, whereas the change in corneal sensitivity at 1 month after surgery negatively correlated with the total and partial blink rates. Both SMILE and LASEK groups showed temporary decreases in corneal sensitivity, which recovered to baseline levels. Although subjective symptoms worsened after SMILE, SIT values improved after LASEK. Compared with SMILE, LASEK yielded better results regarding subjective symptoms, tear production, and corneal sensitivity.

  • 46.2: <i>Invited Paper:</i> The Development of Grating Waveguide Technology for Near‐Eye Display in Augmented Reality

    摘要: Augmented Reality (AR) is generally considered as the next generation computing platform after PC and smart phones, with extensive applications and colossal market capacity. As the most essential hardware of AR wearables, the Near-Eye Display (NED) system determines the final pattern of the product. In this paper, the NED solutions of mainstream AR eyewares are discussed, and the advantages and disadvantages of prism, freeform, arrayed waveguide and grating waveguide, the four popular technologies in NED of AR, are compared. Based on above information, the strengths of grating waveguide in AR products are analyzed, the principles and processing technology are introduced, and the prospect of grating waveguide to be the future of NED in AR is proposed.

    摘要: In this research, we use eye tracking to monitor the attentional behavior of pilots in the cockpit. We built a cockpit monitoring database that serves as a reference for real-time assessment of the pilot’s monitoring strategies, based on numerous flight simulator sessions with eye-tracking recordings. Eye tracking may also be employed as a passive input for assistive system, future studies will also explore the possibility to adapt the notifications’ modality using gaze.

    摘要: This paper investigated the effects of luminance, contrast and saturation of HDR video presented on QLED display on visual system. Results showed that mainly, contrast and saturation influenced visual neural systems controlling eye movements, as well as subjective evaluation of display quality and viewing preference, while luminance generally had no significant influence.

    摘要: Communication systems have improved drastically over the years. There is a huge demand on the bandwidth and speed which has led to rigorous research in 5G communication system. This paper analyses the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of a system that is designed for high speed applications suitable for 5G communication. The proposed system includes a pre-post optical amplification process that yields a better result when compared to the other systems. The proposed system is analysed with various optical filters like Bessel optical filter, Trapezoidal optical filter, Gaussian optical filter and Fabry Perot optical filter. BER and eye patterns for the modified and proposed system with the above filters are simulated and discussed.

  • 32.3: <i>Invited Paper:</i> Design of a High Performance Head Mounted 3D Display Using Micro‐OLEDs

    摘要: This paper documents the development of a high performance head mounted 3D displays using Micro-OLEDs. The optical system couples commercial full resolution 1920*1080 pixel 0.71inch OLED microdisplay, having a diagonal field of view (FOV) of 53 degree and exit pupil diameter over 7mm and eye relief larger than 14 mm And the image distortion is less than 1.5%. An MTF of over 0.6 was achieved at 30lp/mm, ensuring a high image viewing quality of the display. The optical engine implements the diopter adjustment function, supporting diopter correction from +3D to -8D without degrading image quality. A driving solution based on FPGA is developed to support various high definition 3D formats.

  • Long pulse millisecond pumped high-average-power linearly polarized single Nd:YAG rod laser

    摘要: Human sensitivity to changes in luminance or chromaticity differ as a function of temporal or spatial frequency. Luminance sensitivity is band-pass in shape, while chromatic sensitivity curves are low-pass, along both L–M cone opponent (red–green) and S-cone opponent (blue–yellow) axes, where L, M, and S refer to the long-wavelength middle-wavelength and short-wavelength sensitive cones. Temporal sensitivity curves are supported by the magnocellular pathway for luminance, the parvocellular pathway for L–M modulation and the koniocellular pathway for S-cone modulation. This division largely holds for spatial contrast sensitivity. But there are discrepancies. For example, parvo and konio cells respond to higher temporal and spatial frequencies than can be perceived. Also, the role of eye movements in spatial contrast sensitivity – and spatial vision as a whole – is now debated; the spatial and temporal properties of eye movements profoundly influence the spatiotemporal signal leaving the retina. Finally, human psychophysical thresholds for color and luminance seem largely independent. Yet recent cortical data show much combination of magno, parvo, and konio signals in the cortex. This oddity remains puzzling but may have to do with the segregation of different types of information into dorsal and ventral cortical streams.

  • The Effect of Eye Patching on Clear Corneal Incision Architecture in Phacoemulsification: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    摘要: To investigate the effects of postoperative eye patching on clear corneal incision architecture in phacoemulsification. Design: A single?center, randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 132 patients with uncomplicated phacoemulsification were randomly allocated to the intervention or control group. The intervention group received postoperative eye patching for approximately 18 hours, whereas the control group received eye shield. The clear corneal incision architecture was examined postoperatively at 2 hours, 1 day, and 7 days after surgery using optical coherence tomography. Results: Epithelial gaping was significantly reduced on postoperative day 1 in the intervention group (52.4%) compared with control (74.2%) (P = 0.01). No differences were found for other architectural defects. Descemet membrane detachment was associated with lower intraocular pressure on postoperative day 7 (P = 0.02). Presence of underlying diabetes mellitus did not seem to influence architectural defects. Conclusions: Postoperative eye patching facilitated epithelial healing and reduced the occurrence of epithelial gaping on postoperative day 1. It may play a role in protecting and improving corneal wounds during the critical immediate postoperative period.

  • Visual Docking Against Bubble Noise With 3-D Perception Using Dual-Eye Cameras

    摘要: Recently, many studies have been performed worldwide to extend the persistence of underwater operations by autonomous underwater vehicles. Underwater battery recharging technology is one of the solutions even though challenges still remain. The docking function plays an important role not only in battery recharging but also in other advanced applications, such as intervention. Visual servoing in undersea environments inevitably encounters difficulties in recognizing the environment when captured images are disturbed by noise. This study describes the effective recognition performance and robustness against air bubble disturbances in images captured by a real-time position and orientation (pose) tracking and servoing system using stereo vision for a visual-servoing-type underwater vehicle. The recognition of the vehicle pose based on dynamic images captured by dual video cameras was performed by a real-time multistep genetic algorithm (RM-GA). In previous studies, the docking performance was investigated under the condition that there were no disturbances in the captured images that address image degradation. In this paper, the robustness of the RM-GA against air bubble disturbances was verified through visual servoing and docking experiments in a pool test to confirm that the system can continue to recognize the pose of the 3-D marker and can maintain the desired pose by visual servoing. Then, the effectiveness of the proposed system against real disturbances such as turbidity that may degrade the visibility of the system in the sea was confirmed by conducting the docking experiment in a real sea, having verified the practicality of the proposed method.
