  • 302?W triple-frequency, single-mode, linearly polarized Yb-doped all-fiber amplifier

    摘要: Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect is currently the major limitation for the power scaling of single-frequency/narrow linewidth fiber laser systems. A single-mode linearly polarized all-fiber amplifier system is set up to investigate SBS effect in triple-frequency high-power amplifiers. With this amplifier, up to 302 W output power with 83% slope efficiency is achieved and the SBS threshold is scaled up to 12 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest output power of multifrequency laser from a single-mode polarization maintaining fiber. Good spectral properties and high brightness make this laser source available for the application of second harmonic generation, coherent beam combining.

  • Conventional solitons and bound-state solitons in an erbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked by TiSe2-based saturable absorber

    摘要: Conventional solitons (CSs) as well as bound-state solitons in a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser based on 1T-phase titanium diselenide (1T-TiSe2) saturable absorber (SA) have been systematically demonstrated for the first time. The mode locker is assembled by sandwiching the 1T-TiSe2 film between two fiber ferrules to improve compatibility with the all-fiber-integrated ring cavity configuration. The modulation depth, saturation intensity and nonsaturable loss of the prepared 1T-TiSe2 SA are 14.36 %, 1.33 MW/cm2 and 9.44 %, respectively. The system, by means of carefully adjusting the orientations of the polarization controller (PC), is switchable between two states: CS and bound-state CS. In the CS mode-locked regime, the oscillating wavelength is centered at 1558.294 nm with a pulse duration of 1.74 ps, a pulse repetition rate of 3.23 MHz and a maximum average output power of 2.904 mW, respectively. In the bound-state CS regime, two identical solitons form the bound-state pulses with a temporal separation of 6.1 ps, and the bound-state pulses are equally distributed at a repetition rate of 3.23 MHz, corresponding to the fundamental cavity repetition rate. The experimental results further indicate that 1T-TiSe2 SA is competitive to the existing SAs explored so far and will promote the applications of 1T-TiSe2-based SAs in the field of ultrafast lasers.

  • Managing Brillouin frequency spacing for temperature measurement with Brillouin fiber laser sensor

    摘要: Managing Brillouin frequency spacing for temperature measurement with Brillouin fiber laser sensor is proposed and demonstrated. By managing Stokes light wave resonance of different orders, Brillouin lasers with different Brillouin frequency spacing are obtained. In the absence of EDFA, using an optical coupler with 5 km SMF, only the 1st-order (S1) with single frequency shift circulates in the ring. Using a three-port optical circulator with 5 km SMF and adding EDFA, only the 2nd-order (S2) with double frequency shift is in the ring. When the three-port circulator is replaced with a four-port, fiber under test 1 (FUT1) with 10 km SMF and FUT2 with 5 km SMF are used as Brillouin gain medium and gener- ate the 3rd-order Stokes (S3) with triple frequency shift. Temperature is measured directly by beat frequencies between the pump and the 1st-order, 2nd-order, 3rd-order Stokes. About 1.036 MHz/°C, 2.006 MHz/°C and 3.104 MHz/°C sensitivity are consistent with the theoretical value and ± 0.05 dB power fluctuation and 0.2 °C temperature stability keep the same with the previously reported results. It is expected to be widely used in the field of fiber optic sensing.

  • Laser Sources Based on Rare-Earth Ion Doped Tellurite Glass Fibers and Microspheres

    摘要: In recent years, huge progress has been made in the development of rare-earth ion doped tellurite glass laser sources, ranging from watt- and multiwatt-level fiber lasers to nanowatt level microsphere lasers. Significant success has been achieved in extending the spectral range of tellurite fiber lasers generating at wavelengths beyond 2 μm as well as in theoretical understanding. This review is aimed at discussing the state of the art of neodymium-, erbium-, thulium-, and holmium-doped tellurite glass fiber and microsphere lasers.

  • Pulse control in self-mode-locked 2.8???μm Er-doped fluoride fiber lasers

    摘要: In this work, it had been demonstrated that the Er doped fluoride fiber laser emitting at 2.8 μm could accomplish the dark pulse based on self-mode-locked (SML). And the different distances of external feedback were also investigated in experiment. It was found that signal-noise ratio (SNR) of fundamental cavity repetition rate was decreased with increasing the distance of feedback. It was not only caused by increasing the length of cavity, but also influenced by the interaction between inter-cavity and external cavity. The fundamental cavity repetition rate of SML 2.8 μm pulsed laser could be controlled by adjusting distance of external feedback.

  • The Global Market for Industrial Laser Processing

    摘要: The Global Market for Industrial Laser Processing. Fiber laser revenues dictate total-industry negative performance in 2019. Global industrial laser revenues, over the period 2010 – 19, show a period of strong CAGR growth (11.5 %) led by the dynamic markets for high-power fiber lasers used in sheet metal cutting and a significant application for excimer lasers (smart phones). In 2019, global laser revenues decreased for only the first time since the recession of 2009, mainly for two reasons: unconstrained fiber laser selling price decreases and the maturation of the application for excimer lasers. Strong competition in the Chinese market – now more than 40 % of the world market – drove down the average selling price of industrial lasers by 17.5 % in 2019 while unit sales were up 6.5 % in the same period.

  • Micro/nano processing of natural silk fibers with near-field enhanced ultrafast laser; ?????¨è????o?¢???oè????????????ˉ1?¤????è?????è??è??????o3????·¥;

    摘要: Silkworm silk fiber is an attractive material owing to its remarkable mechanical characteristics, excellent optical properties, and good biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, nano-processing of the silk fiber is still a challenge limiting its applications in nanoengineering and related fields. Herein, we report localized near-field enhancement-assisted ablation with an ultrafast laser to break this bottleneck. Localized processing of silk fiber, including nano-holing, nano-grooving, and cutting could retain the key molecular structure building blocks and the pristine functionality of the silk fiber. An extremely narrow nanohole with a width of ~64 nm was successfully achieved. The processed silk fiber can be used to transfer micro/nanoparticles and drugs, showing potential for biomedical engineering. The processing strategy developed in this study can also be extended to other materials, paving a new way for fabricating functional nanostructures with precisely controlled size and morphology.

  • Comparison of the ablation rates, fissures and fragments produced with 150???μm and 272???μm laser fibers with superpulsed thulium fiber laser: an in vitro study

    摘要: Introduction Holmium:YAG(Ho:YAG) is currently the standard for lithotripsy. Superpulsed Thulium Fiber Laser(TFL) has been evaluated as an alternative for lithotripsy, using laser fibers with core-diameters(CDF) down to 50 μm and additional available settings suitable for “dusting” technique. This in-vitro study compared ablation rates, fissures and fragments’ size with 150μmCDF or 272μmCDF with different laser settings using TFL and Ho:YAG. Methods 150CDF and 272CDF were compared using three settings for TFL “fine dusting”(FD:0.15 J/100 Hz); “dusting”(D:0.5 J/30 Hz); “fragmentation”(Fr:1 J/15 Hz) and Ho:YAG(D and Fr). An experimental setup consisting of immerged 10 mm cubes of artificial hard(H) or soft(S) stone phantoms was used with a 20 s’ lasing time and a spiral trajectory, in contact mode. Fragments (acquired through sieves) and stones were observed under optical microscopy before three-dimensional scanning to measure fragments and fissures(DOF) mean diameters and ablation volumes. Results Ablation volumes in with 150CDF-TFL and 272CDF-TFL were higher than those for 272CDF-Ho:YAG in both “dusting” (twofold and threefold) and “fragmentation”(1,5-fold and twofold). “Fine dusting” ablation rates with 150CDF-TFL and 272CDF-TFL were respectively at least 1,5-fold and twofold higher than those for 272CDF-Ho:YAG in “dusting”. 150CDF produced significantly smaller DOF than 272CDF in all settings against S and H except in fragmentation. 150CDF produced lower fragments’ diameter than 272CDF in all settings except dusting. Conclusion These preliminary studies demonstrate that at equal settings and CDF, TFL ablation rates are at least two-fold higher than those with Ho:YAG. 150CDF produces smaller fissures and fragments (that meets the definition of “dusting” lithotripsy) than 272CDF and higher ablation volumes than Ho:YAG.

  • Burst-mode 500 ps fiber laser ablation in 304 stainless steel

    摘要: A study on burst-mode 500 ps fiber laser ablation in 304 stainless steel is presented. A 500 ps pulsed fiber laser with burst-mode operation was employed as the light source in our laser processing system. Under different laser parameters, the ablation results were observed and compared with scanning electron microscope photos. As the burst energy was 8 mJ and the pulse repetition rate was 2 MHz, a relatively good hole quality was obtained. The superiority of burst-mode operation is also discussed at the end of this article.
