摘要: We propose a distributed hydrogen sensing system based on ?-OTDR and a novel coating configuration with fiber adhesively bonding to palladium foils. An ultra-high sensitive distributed hydrogen sensing with 5 cm spatial resolution is demonstrated.

摘要: We present the first experimental demonstration of distributed hydrogen sensing using stimulated Raman scattering in gas-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fibers. The system performances in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, dynamic range and sensing distance are discussed.

A review of nonlinear applications in silicon optical fibers from telecom wavelengths into the mid-infrared spectral region
摘要: Glass-glad silicon core fibers are attracting considerable attention for use in nonlinear applications due to their tight light confinement and intrinsically high third-order nonlinearities. Recent advances in the fabrication procedures have shown that molten core fiber drawing and post-processing techniques can be combined in a versatile approach to produce low-loss fibers with submicron-sized crystalline cores. In this paper, we review current progress in the nonlinear application of silicon-based optical fibers from telecom wavelengths into the mid-infrared. Particular attention is paid to dispersion engineering the fibers to achieve efficient parametric amplification, wavelength conversion and mid-infrared supercontinuum generation.

4-dB Quadrature Squeezing With Fiber-Coupled PPLN Ridge Waveguide Module
摘要: We have developed an optical parametric amplification module for quadrature squeezing with input and output ports coupled with optical fibers for both fundamental and second harmonic. The module consists of a periodically poled LiNbO3 ridge waveguide fabricated with dry etching, dichroic beamsplitters, lenses and four optical fiber pigtales. The high durability of the waveguide and the good separation of squeezed light from a pump beam by the dichroic beamsplitter enable us to inject intense continuous-wave pump light with the power of over 300 mW. We perform ?4.0±0.1 dB of noise reduction for a vacuum state at 1553.3 nm by using a fiber-optics-based measurement setup, which consists of a fiber-optic beamsplitter and a homemade fiber-receptacle balanced detector. The intrinsic loss of the squeezed vacuum in the module is estimated to be 25%. Excluding the extrinsic loss of the measuremental system, the squeezing level in the output fiber of the module is estimated to be ?5.7±0.1 dB. A modularized alignment-free fiber-coupled quadrature squeezer could help to realize quantum information processing with fiber optics.

摘要: We demonstrated a new fiber in-line Mach-Zehnder interferometer in no-core fiber based on single straight waveguide fabricated by femtosecond laser. The device is simple in structure and fabrication and is robust, and can be used for high temperature and bend sensing, with the sensitivity of of -278.86 pm/°C and 0.28nm/m-1, respectively. Moreover, the free spectral range of the interferometer device can be easily controlled and in a precise manner.

Stability of out-of-phase solitons and laser pulse self-compression in active multicore fibers
摘要: An out-of-phase soliton distribution of the wave ?eld is found for a multicore ?ber (MCF) from an even number of cores located in a ring. Its stability is proved with respect both to small wave-?eld perturbations, including azimuthal ones, and to small deformations of the MCF structure. As an example of using this soliton distribution, the problem of laser pulse compression in an active MCF is studied. The optimal ?ber parameters, the minimum duration of the output pulse, and the compression length are found, and they are in good agreement with the results of numerical simulation. In order to achieve high energies in the output laser pulse, the requirements for MCF deformations are determined.

Opto-Mechanical Interactions in Multi-Core Optical Fibers and their Applications
摘要: Optical fibers containing multiple cores are being developed towards capacity enhancement in space-division multiplexed optical communication networks. In many cases, the fibers are designed for negligible direct coupling of optical power among the cores. The cores remain, however, embedded in a single, mechanically-unified cladding. Elastic (or acoustic) modes supported by the fiber cladding geometry are in overlap with multiple cores. Acoustic waves may be stimulated by light in any core through electrostriction. Once excited, the acoustic waves may induce photo-elastic perturbations to optical waves in other cores as well. Such opto-mechanical coupling gives rise to inter-core cross-phase modulation effects, even when direct optical crosstalk is very weak. The cross-phase modulation spectrum reaches hundreds of megahertz frequencies. It may consist of discrete and narrow peaks, or may become quasi-continuous, depending on the geometric layout. The magnitude of the effect at the resonance frequencies is comparable with that of intra-core cross-phase modulation due to Kerr nonlinearity. Two potential applications are demonstrated: single-frequency opto-electronic oscillators that do not require radio-frequency electrical filters, and point-sensing of liquids outside the cladding of multi-core fibers, where light cannot reach.
