Fractals in architecture: The visual interest, preference, and mood response to projected fractal light patterns in interior spaces
摘要: The visual patterns of fractal stimuli on a computer screen and the brightness patterns of light projected onto room surfaces have independently been shown to influence human perceptual responses. It is not clear, however, what effect would result if the same fractal patterns were projected as light patterns on room surfaces. This paper reports on the results of three studies investigating visual interest, visual preference, and mood responses elicited by varying complexities of fractal light patterns projected on walls and floors of an interior space. The results suggest that fractal light patterns of medium to medium-high complexity (quantified by the fractal dimension D = 1.5–1.7) were significantly more visually interesting than other patterns. Crucially, viewing distance did not significantly influence visual interest or visual preference. Based on these studies, the use of medium to medium-high complexity fractal light patterns in interior spaces may be useful for enhancing occupants’ visual interest and mood.

摘要: In this paper, a unique broadband circularly polarized (CP) array antenna by modified feed network is presented. Employing wide band CP semi-fractal aperture coupled structure causes the creation of innovation at CP antenna array with emphasis on reducing of radar cross section (RCS). The 3 dB axial-ratio of the array extends to approximately 1.23 GHz with an impedance bandwidth of 24.77%. An acceptable agreement between the simulation and measured results validates the proposed design.

Effect of temperature on digital images of speckle patterns generated by a metallic rough surface
摘要: It is well known that roughness can be inferred from digital images of speckle patterns generated by illuminated rough surfaces, by analyzing parameters such as fractal dimension, lacunarity and correlation, to cite a few. In this article, we investigate the effect of temperature on the speckle pattern generated by the light scattered from a metallic rough surface. We show that fractal dimension is less sensitive to temperature changes than are lacunarity and correlation, and provide information about which method is more suitable for processing the speckle patterns produced by rough surfaces under temperature variation.

Theory for IMPS on Rough and Finite Fractal Dye Sensitized Solar?Cell
摘要: A generalized theoretical model of intensity modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) for the random morphology in a dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) under uniform illumination is developed. The generalized IMPS expression for the disordered semiconducting/conducting glass interface of a DSSC is obtained in term of power spectral density of roughness. Influence of surface roughness on the dynamic response of DSSC originate due to the coupling of characteristic phenomenological and morphological length scales. A detailed analysis of IMPS response is performed over finite self-affine fractals to highlight roughness induced anomalies and cause of photocurrent enhancement. The IMPS of a rough DSSC exhibit three characteristic frequency regimes: lifetime of charge carrier dependent low frequency regime, surface irregularity dependent intermediate power-law regime and diffusion controlled high frequency regime. Finally, our theory facilitates the understanding of dynamics and kinetics of charge carriers under the influence of ubiquitous surface disorder.

Electromagnetic behavior of a non-integer dimensional planar interface located in chiral medium
摘要: Purpose of the present study is to investigate the reflection and transmission characteristics of a non-integer dimensional (NID) planar interface located in an unbounded homogeneous chiral medium. The medium is NID in direction normal to the interface and a parameter, called NID parameter, is used to model the NID characteristics of the medium. Interface exists due to unequal value of the NID parameters characterizing mediums lying on two sides of the interface. It is observed co and cross-components of reflected field have very significant effect of NID parameters. Special cases in which one and neither of the NID parameter is integer order have also been discussed.

Analysis of a Fractal Josephson Junction with Unharmonic Current-Phase Relation
摘要: In this paper, a fractal Josephson junction with unharmonic current-phase relation is analytically and numerically analyzed. This system has two, four, or no equilibrium points depending on the external direct current source and unharmonic parameter. The stability analysis of the equilibrium points is carried out. The inclusion of unharmonic current-phase relation in an ideal Josephson junction leads to an increase in the hysteresis of current-voltage characteristics. While the inclusion of fractal characteristics in insulating layer of Josephson junction with harmonic current-phase relation leads to a decrease in the hysteresis of current-voltage characteristics. The inclusion of unharmonic current-phase relation on a fractal Josephson junction leads to an increase in the hysteresis of current-voltage characteristics. The dynamical behavior map of fractal Josephson junction with unharmonic current-phase relation in amplitude and frequency of modulation current plane is depicted. For a suitable choice of modulation parameters of external current source, fractal Josephson junction with unharmonic current-phase relation can exhibit excitable mode, bistable oscillatory mode, and periodic and chaotic behaviors.

摘要: Detecting the Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) electromagnetic wave has been acknowledged as an effective method in the measurement of varied kinds of partial discharges in Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS). However, electromagnetic wave has been shielded completely owing to the steel flange around the insulator in recent years. Detecting the electromagnetic wave propagating from the placing hole in the steel flange becomes the only practicable method. The traditional sensors enter a bottleneck stage when they are used to detecting the electromagnetic wave propagating from the placing hole. The sensitivity declines a lot and output signal becomes weaker. At present, there are no relevant sensors, which detecting UHF electromagnetic wave propagating from placing hole. By adopting the fractal technology, back cavity and loaded resistor, the UHF sensor of fractal butterfly antenna was developed based on the software of High Frequency Structure Simulator(HFSS). Equivalent height was tested in the platform of Giga hertz Transverse Electromagnetic(GTEM) chamber. Detection sensibility and validity was professionally tested via applied in an experimental platform of 220kV GIS. It is concluded that the fractal butterfly antenna sensor belongs to the linear polarized antenna. The available frequency range is concentrated in 0.8-2GHz. The average equivalent height of fractal butterfly antenna is twice more than the traditional sensors. Detecting sensitivity of partial discharge is lower than 20pC.

摘要: In this work, a broadband and wide-angle band-stop FSS based on dual-layered periodic arrays of fractal square loops was proposed and demonstrated. Equivalent circuit model and full-wave electromagnetic simulation were used to analyze this FSS. The sample of designed FSS with optimized structure parameters for center working frequency about 13GHz was fabricated and measured. The experimental results agree well with the simulated ones. Both of them indicated that the FSS has broad stop bands for both TE and TM polarization under incident angles from 0° to 60°. Specifically, the stop bands under incident angle 60° are over 7.35GHz and 5.91GHz for TE and TM polarization, respectively.

摘要: The results of the fractal analysis of the gravitational waves generated by a binary black hole merger and registered first on September 14, 2015 at 09:50:45 UTC by two detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (United States) are considered. Being a unique ultra-wideband natural process, the gravitational waves were appeared to be fractal one too. Their fractal structure is described by the set of numerical characteristics based on estimation of different fractal dimensions. The results obtained are widely discussed.

Self-assembly of fractal liquid crystal colloids
摘要: Nematic liquid crystals are anisotropic fluids that self-assemble into vector fields, which are governed by geometrical and topological laws. Consequently, particulate or droplet inclusions self-assemble in nematic domains through a balance of topological defects. Here, we use double emulsions of water droplets inside radial nematic liquid crystal droplets to form various structures, ranging from linear chains to three-dimensional fractal structures. The system is modeled as a formation of satellite droplets, distributed around a larger, central core droplet and we extend the problem to explain the formation of fractal structures. We show that a distribution of droplet sizes plays a key role in determining the symmetry properties of the resulting geometric structures. The results are relevant to a variety of inclusions, ranging from colloids suspensions to multi-emulsion systems. Such systems have potential applications for novel switchable photonic structures as well as providing wider insights into the packing of self-assembled structures.
