  • An Efficient Technique using Modified p-q Theory for Controlling Power Flow in a Single-Stage Single-Phase Grid-Connected PV System

    摘要: In this paper, an efficient power conditioning unit (PCU) is presented for a single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic system (GCPVS) incorporating both maximum power-point tracking (MPPT) and current control algorithms in a single-stage. Modified p-q theory is applied to derive the reference signal for a hysteresis band current (HBC) controller so that independently the active and reactive power sharing between the photovoltaic (PV) system and the grid can be controlled. Enhanced stability during the internal dynamics, caused by the variations in PV generation and load conditions, is the prime aspect of the controller. The performance of the proposed p-q theory correlated HBC controller is evaluated against tracking of maximum PV power and compensation of load reactive power under the changeable atmospheric and load conditions, and also compared with the widely used conventional proportional resonant (PR) controller to justify superiority. Simulation and experiment are carried-out under variable weather and different load conditions to validate acceptability of the proposed control scheme.

  • Improved three-vector based dead-beat model predictive direct power control strategy for grid-connected inverters

    摘要: Since only one inverter voltage vector is applied during each duty cycle, traditional model predictive direct power control (MPDPC) for grid-connected inverters (GCIs) results in serious harmonics in current and power. Moreover, a high sampling frequency is needed to ensure satisfactory steady-state performance, which is contradictory to its long execution time due to the iterative prediction calculations. To solve these problems, a novel dead-beat MPDPC strategy is proposed, using two active inverter voltage vectors and one zero inverter voltage vector during each duty cycle. Adoption of three inverter vectors ensures a constant switching frequency. Thus, smooth steady-state performance of both current and power can be obtained. Unlike the traditional three-vector based MPDPC strategy, the proposed three vectors are selected based on the power errors rather than the sector where the grid voltage vector is located, which ensures that the duration times of the selected vectors are positive all the time. Iterative calculations of the cost function in traditional predictive control are also removed, which makes the proposed strategy easy to implement on digital signal processors (DSPs) for industrial applications. Results of experiments based on a 1 kW inverter setup validate the feasibility of the proposed three-vector based dead-beat MPDPC strategy.

    摘要: In this paper, integration of photovoltaic (PV) system and battery storage is considered using Three-level T-Type inverter. To attain the highest efficiency, PV panels are considered to follow MPPT algorithm while batteries are operated based on their state of charge (SOC) condition. To provide distortion-free output current, it is essential considering unbalanced condition produced due to inconsistency of MPPT and SOC. Moreover, proper tradeoff between inverter and grid is realized so that inverter is automatically adapted with demand-power of grid. All the targets are carried out by proper control of Discontinuous PWM. The proposed method is evaluated by simulation study.

    摘要: This paper presents a study of the control strategies of three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic inverter to mitigate its harmonic current output and improve the power quality of the grid. The operation principle and topology of the PV inverter is analyzed by establishing the state-space mathematical model based on the adaptation of proportional resonant (PR) and quasi-proportional resonant (QPR) controllers. According to the characteristics of the PR and QPR controllers, the theories for mitigating harmonic currents are reviewed. A three-phase ac microgrid with grid-connected inverter systems is then built on Matlab/Simulink and the performances of the inverter controllers for harmonic mitigations are verified by comparing the simulation results.

  • Cascaded H-Bridge MLI and Three-Phase Cascaded VSI Topologies for Grid-Connected PV Systems with Distributed MPPT

    摘要: Cascaded multilevel inverter topologies have received a great deal of attention for grid-connected PV systems. In this paper, three-cascaded multilevel inverter configurations are proposed for grid-connected PV applications. These are the three-phase cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter topology, three-phase cascaded voltage-source inverter topology using inductors, and three-phase cascaded voltage-source inverter topology using coupled transformers. Distributed maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of PV modules using perturbation and observation algorithm is used for all presented topologies. In all presented configurations, each PV module is connected to one DC-DC isolated ?uk converter for best MPPT achievement. Simulation is achieved by using the SIMULINK environment. The simulation results show that the three proposed topologies function well in improving the grid’s power quality. The grid currents are kept in phase with the grid voltage to ensure unity power factor, and the THD of the grid currents are within the acceptable range. The proposed topologies are experimentally implemented in the lab, and the switching pulses are generated with the help of the MicroLabBox data acquisition system. Comparing the three topologies according to the number of switches, voltage, and current stresses on switches and THD of the generated voltages and grid currents and according to the efficiency has been achieved in this paper, both experimentally and by simulation. The simulation and experimental results and comparisons are presented to verify the proposed topologies’ effectiveness and reliability.

    摘要: Generally, the output power of the Photovoltaic (PV) panels is less than the nominal rating of the panel. On the other hand, the inverters of the PV systems are normally sized smaller than the nominal rating of the photovoltaic system. A typical PV to inverter power rating ratio is 1.2, which can be influenced by the weather condition. The main drawback is that during peak irradiance and optimal temperature situation, the peak power is generated at the PV, but the inverter is not sized for absorbing the whole power. This article develops a systematic method to calculate the optimal ratio between PV panel and inverter to absorb the maximum possible power with an optimal cost. This method uses the annual irradiance and temperature of the geographical region and extracts the power curves for a photovoltaic system in specific regions. Based on the distribution of the various weather conditions, the total possible power generation of the system is calculated. Then the possible extracted and lost power for different sizes of inverters are calculated to develop an efficiency function for the extracted power of the typical power system. This function is optimized considering the price of inverters and system. Both of conventional 1000 V PV system as well as recently developed 1500 V system for 480 VAC grid connection are studied and the effect of transformer in both case is investigated. The paper shows how 1500 V system is superior to its 1000 V counterpart.

  • Economic evaluation of rooftop grid-connected photovoltaic systems for residential building in Egypt

    摘要: Egypt is a country with high solar energy potential and the exploitation of such promising energy resource is critical for national sustainable development through efficient energy planning with gradual independence from fossil fuels. Successive incentive polices had been introduced by the Egyptian electricity authority to encourage the deployment of small-scale residential rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems. This article studies the techno-economic feasibility of grid-connected rooftop PV system in Egypt under the currently applied retail electricity price and the net energy metering policy. The study investigates three types of residential households with different electricity demand levels; low, medium, and high consumptions. The economic evaluation of various sizes of the PV system is carried out based on different economic measures such as net present value, cost of energy, payback period, and electricity bill saving. Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources software has been utilized to carry out such economic evaluation. The results identify that the viability of PV installation in residential applications is clearly affected by the energy consumption pattern, the parameters of the incentive policy applied, and the economical indices of the system.

  • Analysis of the Power Quality of a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System

    摘要: The use of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems is increasingly on the rise in Brazil. Faced with this growth, it is necessary to evaluate the impacts of this source in the electric energy systems. Based on this scenario, the present work aims to analyze and quantify the impact of a grid-connected photovoltaic system connection, evaluating the Electric Power Quality indicators based on the levels specified in Module 8 of the Electric Energy Distribution Procedures in the National Electric System. To perform the data collection, an energy analyzer device was installed at the output of the grid-connected system inverter located in the Energy Laboratory of the Federal Rural Semi-Arid University, located in the city of Mossoró-RN. Using the collected data, it was possible to analyze parameters of voltage and current distortion, power factor, active, reactive and apparent power, voltage, frequency variations, and voltage unbalance. It was observed that the criteria analyzed were within the appropriate standards although there were also verified cases that there was an elevation in tension levels. Finally, it is concluded that the impacts caused are relevant within the electric system, and grid connected system performance was satisfactory, although there are still possibilities for improvements.

    摘要: State-space current control enables high dynamic performance of a three-phase grid-connected converter equipped with an LCL filter. In this paper, observer-based state-space control is designed using direct pole placement in the discrete-time domain and in grid-voltage coordinates. Analytical expressions for the controller and observer gains are derived as functions of the physical system parameters and design specifications. The connection between the physical parameters and the control algorithm enables automatic tuning. Parameter sensitivity of the control method is analyzed. The experimental results show that the resonance of the LCL filter is well damped, and the dynamic performance specified by direct pole placement is obtained for the reference tracking and grid-voltage disturbance rejection.
