  • Automated quantification of immunomagnetic beads and leukemia cells from optical microscope images

    摘要: Quanti?cation of tumor cells is crucial for early detection and monitoring the progress of cancer. Several methods have been developed for detecting tumor cells. However, automated quanti?cation of cells in the presence of immunomagnetic beads has not been studied. In this study, we developed computer vision based algorithms to quantify the leukemia cells captured and separated by micron size immunomagnetic beads. Color, size based object identi?cation and machine learning based methods were implemented to quantify targets in the images recorded by a bright ?eld microscope. Images acquired by a 40× or a 20× objective were analyzed, the immunomagnetic beads were detected with an error rate of 0.0171 and 0.0384 respectively. Our results reveal that the proposed method attains 91.6% precision for the 40× objective and 79.7% for the 20× objective. This algorithm has the potential to be the signal readout mechanism of a biochip for cell detection.

  • Detection of Faint Asteroids Based on Image Shifting and Stacking Method

    摘要: In order to improve the ability to find the faint and small celestial bodies in the solar system, a method of shifting and stacking images which improves the detection efficiency of faint moving objects is applied to process the sequential optical images. This method determines the existence of moving objects by using the method of false position to pre-estimate the apparent velocities of moving objects, then determines iteratively the accurate positions of moving objects based on the SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and elongation of stellar image. Using the sequential images of the China Near Earth Object Survey Telescope (CNEOST), we carry out an experiment and succeed in detecting asteroids fainter than 21 magnitude which are invisible on a single image. Thus, the feasibility of this method is verified.

  • Die Spaltlampe als Videografiekonsole; The slit lamp as videography console;

    摘要: Background. Today’s slit lamps have been optimized to realise the principle of focal illumination. When doing clinical work the result is that the slit lamp can be operated simply by using intuition; however, other applications are excluded due to the rigid construction principle. These other applications are summarized in the accompanying film (available online). Methods. First, the slit lamp’s classical fields of application are shown. Thereafter, a description follows of how modern methods of image processing and also simple alterations in the slit lamp illumination and observation optics open up exciting new perspectives for diagnostics and documentation. Results. By relying on the freely available image processing program Hugin, conventional use of the illumination and observation units can generate much larger panoramic views of the anterior parts of the eye. By using an ophthalmoscope as the light source, early stage keratoconus can be diagnosed by leaving the slit lamp’s observation unit unchanged and noting the arrangement of Purkinje images 1, 2 and 4. With the same arrangement a relative afferent pupil deficit can be reliably detected. If the observation optics are changed by holding a corrective concave lens in front of the slit lamp’s objective lens, the plane of focus can be shifted to capture oculoplastic and strabismus findings. Finally, the film shows that the slit lamp in its present form has much less potential than a future-oriented fundus videography. Conclusion. By relying on thorough knowledge of the slit lamp’s fundamental optics it is possible to suitably document all essential fields of ophthalmology using slit lamp videography. Slit lamp videography opens up a wide range of documentation possibilities, especially for the routine clinical work of general ophthalmologists.

    摘要: Oral cancer presents a public health crisis, particularly in regions where widespread use of tobacco, betel quid and acacia extract lead to disproportionately high incidences of oral malignancies. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has shown to work efficiently in early-stage oral cancer lesions; however, physicians require a method capable of assisting them during therapy delivery, so treatments can be more effective. Several studies explore how to take advantage of photosensitized fluorescent lesions to perform imaging with the purpose of guiding and monitoring patients undergoing PDT; however, these streamlined systems for intraoral PDT treatment guidance and monitoring are needed in order for this approach to achieve optimal outcomes. This paper proposes the development of a smartphone application capable of processing images taken with an endoscopy camera directly connected to the device. PDT guidance and monitoring can be simplified, and treatment could be delivered more efficiently, increasing the chance of achieving a complete tumor response.

    摘要: Color grading is the process of subtly mixing and adjusting the color and tonal balance of a movie to achieve a specific visual look. This manual editing task may require a significant amount of work from very skilled artists and technicians. In many cases the director wants to emulate the style and look present in a reference image, e.g. a still from an existing movie, a photograph, or even a previously shot sequence in the current movie. In this paper we propose a method that automatically transfers the style, in terms of tone, color palette and contrast, from a reference image to the source RAW image. It consists of three separable operations: global luminance matching, global color transfer and local contrast matching. The computational complexity of the procedure is extremely low and allows for real-time implementation in-camera. As it just takes into account the statistics of source and reference images, no training is required. The results are free from artifacts and provide an excellent approximation to the intended look, bringing savings in pre-production, shooting and post-production time.

    摘要: The current robots follow clear, repetitive and logical instructions, but generally, they have problems in managing unstructured environments and reacting dynamically to these. Thus, modern robots require improved vision systems capable of obtaining information about such environments at a high acquisition rate and with high processing speeds. The growing demand for robotic platforms, both industrial and mobile, has greatly boosted the development of advanced vision systems. A weak point of traditional computer vision is that it depends on algorithms executed on a computer or server connected to the robot, often involving the need for high computing resources. Therefore, much of the efforts of the last decades have been focused on the improvement of those algorithms. Nevertheless, when the limit of traditional software processing systems (PCs, microcontrollers and microprocessors) is reached, it is necessary to migrate to a more versatile platform -which generally leads to hardware solutions-. The HW/SW design is possible because of high-frequency bridges between the Hard-Processor System (HPS) and the FPGA. Commonly, the most demanding tasks of the image processing are made in the FPGA, whereas the HPS handles the processed data and performs the high-level control function. This work presents a proposal for HW/SW integration using a SoC FPGA, for the images processing provided by the Intel Realsense?3D camera (an RGB-D sensor). This approach seeks to enhance the streamlining and ?ltering stages to obtain faster results compared to a traditional system.

    摘要: The present study presents a method to quantify lipids, collagen and muscle cells, to help diagnose atherosclerosis using digital image processing techniques. The relative concentrations of these three indicators are crucial in diagnosing atherosclerosis in patients. Digital image processing techniques such as object detection, color enhancement, and shape and texture analysis were used to quantify cells. The objective of the algorithm is to analyze high definition images of coronary arteries and to provide an objective outcome on the atherosclerotic tissue stage. The algorithm presented outstanding results and an innovative method to diagnose atherosclerosis when compared to existing procedures in the literature.

    摘要: Indoor localization or indoor positioning system is a known as a process of detecting position of any object or people inside a building or room by different sensory data collected from different devices using different techniques such as radio waves, magnetic fields, acoustic signals or other procedures. However, lacking of a standard localization system is still a very big concern. Solution of this issue can be very beneficial for people in many cases but it can be especially very beneficial for the visually impaired people. In this paper, an image processing based indoor localization system has been developed using OpenCV and Python by following color detection technique to detect position of the user with maximum accuracy and then location of user is determined by analyzing that location matrix. Location accuracy depends on the size of the matrix and successful identification of target color. Firebase real time database was added to the system which made real time operations between server and the user end device easier. To justify the proposed model, successful experiments were conducted in indoor environments as well and correct result was achieved each time by detecting accurate locations. This will be very advantageous to observe the fully or partially sightless people and guide them towards their destination and also to inspect them for their security purpose.

  • Optical Character Recognition System for Nastalique Urdu-Like Script Languages using Supervised Learning

    摘要: There are two main techniques to convert written or printed text into digital format. The first technique is to create an image of written/printed text, but images are large in size so they require huge memory space to store, also text in image form cannot be further processed like edit, search, copy etc. The second technique is to use an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system. OCR’s can read documents and convert manual text documents into digital text and this digital text can be processed to extract knowledge. A huge amount of Urdu language’s data is available in handwritten or in printed form that needs to be converted into digital format for knowledge acquisition. Highly cursive, complex structure, bi-directionality, and compound in nature etc. make the Urdu language too complex to obtain accurate OCR results. In this study supervised learning based OCR system is proposed for Nastalique Urdu language. The proposed system’s evaluations under variety of experimental settings apprehend 98.4 % accuracy, which is highest recognition rate ever achieved by any Urdu language OCR system. The proposed system is simple to implement especially in software front of OCR system also the proposed technique is useful for printed text as well as handwritten text and it will help for developing more accurate Urdu OCR’s software systems in the future.

    摘要: The study of segmentation and registration of lung volume in medical images has been an active area with the emergence and development of 4D CT (Computed Tomography) medical imaging techniques. Precise image segmentation and registration methods are becoming more and more important in computer-aided diagnosis and treatment. Despite the significant progress which has been made in the medical image segmentation and registration, lung segmentation and registration is still a challenging task. In this paper, a joint segmentation and registration method for 4D lung CT images is proposed, which extends a general simultaneous segmentation and registration framework based on MRF (Markov Random Field) and utilizes the segmentation results of one frame as an atlas for the initialization step. Furthermore, a stochastic sampling approach is introduced for the computation of registration similarity measurement. The proposed method is evaluated on a public lung CT data set and the experimental results show its improved performance compared with the conventional methods.
