    摘要: Industrial equipment may require precise alignment of components in order to function properly. In this work, we consider the machine alignment of a beamline in a research facility where an autonomous measurement system is used to execute these machine alignment procedures. The system consists of two robotic arms equipped with laser sensors placed at their ends which with the help of fiducial markers, are used by a camera system to calculate the position of the machine with respect to a stretched wire installed on top of the machines. In this work we propose a wire detection tool that assists the measurement process by detecting the line automatically through RGB-D images. Although the system was implemented for the specific application of beam line component alignment in the LHC tunnel, the same principle can be used in various other applications requiring detection of fine lines at a close distance.

    摘要: Currently, estimated facts state that there are more than 285 million visually impaired people around the globe, of which 39 million are blind and the others have a low vision [1]. Approximately 90% of people suffering from blindness are from low-income backgrounds [2]. The main aim of this paper is to provide an efficient visual platform to enhance the perception of the surroundings for a visually impaired user. This is achieved by using the concept of real-time image and video processing. This data is analyzed and compared along with the database which consists of pre-stored data that aids in recognition of the captured image. A head mount camera is used to capture an image on a real-time basis whenever desired. The camera is placed to provide a maximum field of vision and to eliminate the blind spot. The captured image is then processed and compared with the information stored in the database, providing an audio output indicating the desired information. Audio output is provided through bone conduction headphones which communicate audio signals directly with the inner ear. This keeps the outer ear free to be sensitive to the surroundings. A distress alert mechanism is also included as a safety measure to the blind at times of danger. It helps in sending messages containing distress alert signal which contains current location of the user.

  • Optical Coherence Tomography as an Oral Cancer Screening Adjunct in a Low Resource Settings

    摘要: Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide, predominantly seen in low and middle-income countries (LMIC). Two thirds of all cases are detected at a late stage when prognosis and treatment outcomes are poor. Oral lesions are commonly detected by visual inspection, followed by invasive surgical biopsy and time-consuming histopathological analysis. Optical coherence tomography (OCT), a minimally invasive tomographic imaging technology, can be used to non-invasively identify premalignant or malignant change in the oral mucosa. In this study, a mobile OCT imaging system was designed, constructed, and tested for its performance as a point-of-care oral diagnostic device in an LMIC. 20 patients with suspicious oral lesions and 10 healthy subjects were enrolled in this pilot study. Two-dimensional (2-D) OCT images as well as clinical examination data, risk habit history, and histopathology were collected. OCT images for healthy oral mucosa, dysplasia, and malignancy were evaluated in a blinded fashion by visual scoring and computed image processing techniques. It was found that the OCT image processing algorithm performed at or exceeded the performance of visual observer scoring of OCT images.

Here, we present a method for segmentation and selections of Region of Interest (ROI) according to our requirement in one frame and easily analyze image. Our and observe result data from 3D medical computational approach allowed the experts to select the ROI on execution level and free to compare results after each and every execution and identify the best suited result or best image which provides the larger information comparatively others image.

  • Comparative appraisal of global and local thresholding methods for binarisation of off-axis digital holograms

    摘要: Binary digital and computer-generated holograms are used in a number of digital micromirror device (DMD) applications, including holographic displays, media characterisation, optical encryption, and others. Binarisation is one of the most simple and e?cient methods of hologram compression. In this paper, 12 local and 18 global thresholding techniques of di?erent groups were analysed and compared based on attribute similarity, clustering, entropy, histogram shape, and local adaptive factors. Optically recorded o?-axis digital holograms of di?erent objects were binarised using these methods. The amplitude quality of the obtained reconstructed images was compared using PSNR and SSIM values. The clustering-based methods achieved the highest quality. The results of binarisation by global and local methods were comparable on average.

  • Method for Processing and Analysis of the Images of a Network of Thermal Fatigue Cracks on the Surfaces of Rollers of Continuous Casting Machines

    摘要: We propose an algorithm for the analysis of thermal fatigue cracks on the surfaces of rollers of continuous casting machines that does not require adaptation to images of various types and individual choice of parameters. For this purpose, the images are analyzed for a sufficiently large subset of the sets of values of the parameters. The result of this classification is regarded as a fuzzy set with a membership function of each element equal to the number of sets of parameters responsible for the detection of this element as a component of the frame of the damage grid.

When there’s a lot of data to sift through, computer-vision models are better than people. But there are limits. Computers still need more time than a human to recognize a person or action. They can’t follow a person or object between multiple video cameras. They can be fooled easily. They can’t assign meaning to what they see. These are the limits engineers must overcome to make cameras more useful in manufacturing and in smart cities.

  • KMTNet Nearby Galaxy Survey. I. Optimal Strategy for Low Surface Brightness Imaging with KMTNet

    摘要: In hierarchical galaxy formation models, galaxies evolve through mergers and accretions. Tidally disrupted debris from these processes can remain as diffuse, faint structures, which can provide useful insight into the assembly history of galaxies. To investigate the properties of the faint structures in outskirts of nearby galaxies, we conduct deep and wide-field imaging survey with Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). We present our observing strategy and optimal data reduction process to recover the faint extended features in the imaging data of NGC 1291 taken with KMTNet. Through the dark sky flat-fielding and optimal sky subtraction, we can effectively remove inhomogeneous patterns. In the combined images, the peak-to-peak global sky gradients were reduced to less than ~0.5% and ~0.3% of the original B- and R-band sky levels, respectively. However, we find local spatial fluctuations in the background sky that can affect the precise measurement of the sky value. Consequently, we can reach the surface brightness of mB,1σ~29.5 and mR,1σ~28.5 mag arcsec?2 in azimuthally averaged one-dimensional surface brightness profiles, which is mainly limited by the uncertainty in the sky determination. These results suggest that the deep imaging data produced by KMTNet are suitable to study the faint features of nearby galaxies such as outer disks and dwarf companions, but unideal (not impossible) to detect stellar halos. The one-dimensional profile revealed that NGC 1291 appeared to have a Type I disk out to R ~30 kpc with no obvious color gradient, and excess light due to a stellar halo was undetected.

  • Pattern Reconstructability in Fully Parallel Thinning

    摘要: It is a challenging topic to perform pattern reconstruction from a unit-width skeleton, which is obtained by a parallel thinning algorithm. The bias skeleton yielded by a fully-parallel thinning algorithm, which usually results from the so-called hidden deletable points, will result in the dif?culty of pattern reconstruction. In order to make a fully-parallel thinning algorithm pattern reconstructable, a newly-de?ned reconstructable skeletal pixel (RSP) including a thinning ?ag, iteration count, as well as reconstructable structure is proposed and applied for thinning iteration to obtain a skeleton table representing the resultant thin line. Based on the iteration count and reconstructable structure associated with each skeletal pixel in the skeleton table, the pattern can be reconstructed by means of the dilating and uniting operations. Embedding a conventional fully-parallel thinning algorithm into the proposed approach, the pattern may be over-reconstructed due to the in?uence of a biased skeleton. A simple process of removing hidden deletable points (RHDP) in the thinning iteration is thus presented to reduce the effect of the biased skeleton. Three well-known fully-parallel thinning algorithms are used for experiments. The performances investigated by the measurement of reconstructability (MR), the number of iterations (NI), as well as the measurement of skeleton deviation (MSD) con?rm the feasibility of the proposed pattern reconstruction approach with the assistance of the RHDP process.

  • Mereotopological Correction of Segmentation Errors in Histological Imaging

    摘要: In this paper we describe mereotopological methods to programmatically correct image segmentation errors, in particular those that fail to fulfil expected spatial relations in digitised histological scenes. The proposed approach exploits a spatial logic called discrete mereotopology to integrate a number of qualitative spatial reasoning and constraint satisfaction methods into imaging procedures. Eight mereotopological relations defined on binary region pairs are represented as nodes in a set of 20 directed graphs, where the node-to-node graph edges encode the possible transitions between the spatial relations after set-theoretic and discrete topological operations on the regions are applied. The graphs allow one to identify sequences of operations that applied to regions of a given relation, and enables one to resegment an image that fails to conform to a valid histological model into one that does. Examples of the methods are presented using images of H&E-stained human carcinoma cell line cultures.
