  • [Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing] Artificial Intelligence on Fashion and Textiles Volume 849 (Proceedings of the Artificial Intelligence on Fashion and Textiles (AIFT) Conference 2018, Hong Kong, July 3–6, 2018) || Woven Light: An Investigation of Woven Photonic Textiles

    摘要: Textile materials, which have been widely used in apparel, interior design, health care, automobile, and infrastructure, play a fundamental role and exhibit a close relationship to human’s daily life. For the past few decades, smart textile materials with new performance, functionality, and design values have been developed through the integration of advanced technologies [1]. This study aims to review and examine current approaches to realize photonic textiles, including LED-embedded, photoluminescent, and polymeric optical fiber (POF) textiles. This work also reviews examples of woven interactive textiles and discusses how weave parameters can affect POF textiles. POF textiles, which exhibit the advantage of directly incorporating functional fibers during the fabrication process, have the potential to serve as a flexible textile display. In addition, this material provides high design values due to its dynamic visual appearance. One of the fabrication methods used to produce POF textiles is the weaving technique. The properties of smart textiles, including hand feel, elasticity, flexibility, and drapability, can be considerably changed through the interplay among weaving variables, such as fiber content, patterns, weave structures, fabric construction, and finishing techniques. Complex woven structures can be designed to simplify the production process; novel yarns can be used to provide variety to textile appearance and tactility. However, few studies have been conducted on the fabrication process of smart textiles through weaving. Tan and Bai developed prototypes of interactive cushions using POF textiles integrated with touch sensors [2, 3]. The design process of these prototypes focuses on the integration of electronic components and interactivity instead of on the textile fabrication method. A literature review indicates that research on the weaving structures of POF textiles is lacking. The use of weaving techniques to create innovations for smart textiles to enhance their appearance, performance, and functionality demonstrates potential.

  • Interactive Image Segmentation on Multiscale Appearances

    摘要: Interactive segmentation algorithms based on graph cuts can extract the foreground successfully from a simple scene. However, they are ineffective for complex-scene images. To improve the segmentation performance, we propose an interactive segmentation algorithm, which combines the segmentation and the multiscale smoothing into a unified model. This model consists of the segmentation and the smoothing. The segmentation relies on the multiscale appearances, which depend on the smoothing. In the smoothing part, the total variation is used to preserve the geometric shape of the foreground and captures different scale edges and appearances for segmentation. Combining the multiscale edges and appearances, we propose a novel Gibbs energy functional for segmentation. The exact global minima of the energy can be found by jointing the image smoothing and the optimization of segmentation. In this algorithm, the smoothing motivates that the foreground could be detected easily from a proper scale. Experimental results on the BSD300 data set and Weizmann horse's database indicate that, compared with the existing interactive segmentation algorithms, the proposed algorithm provides competitive performance in terms of segmentation accuracy.

    摘要: With rumors of painted by the Emperor Zhao Ji, who subjugated his nation of Song, as a portrait of himself and his corrupted courtiers Cai Jing and Tong Guan. The work of art has been highly valued not only for being a masterpiece of the painter’s unique portrait painting but also for its superb skills in composition, ingenuity, shaping, depicting and tinting. With a portrait aspect ratio so tall and thin of 1:3, the painter arranged all the figure and surroundings in the bottom half and the figures themselves bottom quarter only. The composition leaves out the space for sky and ground as the skill in later ages named "blank leaving", results in an ethereal and detached individual space, the orientation of still objects and figures wraps up the space towards inside while the pine tree reaching high up to the sky extended the dimension in altitude. Thus, the consideration of space makes it suitable for being a reference of recreation in virtual reality. The Tunable laid its foundation on prior research in the background and content of the painting and then step further in textual research of objects while bringing back the core elements hidden behind the image, the music. The painter and emperor compressed the feeling of music and motion into a still image, yet we are trying to bring it back to life.

  • An interactive cameraless projector calibration method

    摘要: The geometric calibration of projectors is a demanding task in many areas related to computer vision, virtual reality or augmented reality, to name some. Up to date, different methods have been proposed to retrieve the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of projectors. During the last 20 years, researchers have used cameras as means to calibrate projectors in order to automatize the process. However, this might add: (1) complexity in terms of mathematical formulation; (2) restrictions in terms of camera locations relative to projectors; and (3) additional errors (those due to the camera calibration itself). Most of these camera-based methods make use of planar homographies, and others require an extended calibration process (for both the camera and the projector). In this paper, we present an approach that combines a direct transformation method (DLT) with projected augmented reality to perform an interactive calibration of projectors without the need for cameras. This method is based on non-coplanar points and 2D/3D correspondences, which are interactively established. Intrinsic and extrinsic calibration is achieved in a single step, making use of the DLT. The method rescues old approaches to calibrate projectors, but brings the new capabilities of interactive systems, all integrated in a single software solution. We conduct different experiments by considering two projector setups and two different sets of control points, proving that the accuracy of the method in the real space can be between one and two pixels.

  • Photovoltaic Potential Assessment and Dust Impacts on Photovoltaic Systems in Iran: Review Paper

    摘要: Smart-fabric interactive-textile systems offer exciting new possibilities, provided that they exhibit sufficient robustness and autonomy to be reliably deployed in critical applications. Textile multiantenna systems, unobtrusively integrated in a professional garment, are key components of such systems, as they set up energy-efficient and stable wireless body-centric communication links. Yet, their functionality may be further extended by exploiting their surface as energy-harvesting platform. Different state-of-the-art energy harvesters are suitable for compact integration onto a textile antenna. We demonstrate this by integrating a power management system, together with multiple diverse scavenging transducers and a storage module, on a well-chosen textile antenna topology. We provide guidelines to ensure that the additional hardware does not affect the textile antenna’s performance. Simultaneous scavenging from different energy sources significantly increases the autonomy of a wearable system, in the meanwhile reducing battery size.

  • Solar Power Plant Grid Interactive and Building Integration Photovoltaic

    摘要: With the development of technology, the need for electricity is increasing. In terms of Indonesia's topology, the Solar Power Plant is most suitable for use in rural (remote) areas, known as the Solar Home System (SHS). This system is preferred because it is small in scale and uses a direct current (DC) system. This system can reduce costs because it does not use an inverter. But the weakness of this system is the difficulty of finding home electronic equipment such as TV, Radio / Tape and others that use DC, so the SHS system is not attractive to use. PLTS connected to PLN's electricity network, Interactive Grid, BIPV (Building Integration PV) is a hybrid application between the electricity network (PLN) and PLTS that are already widely used. Thus, PV-Genset Hybrids can reduce the inefficiency of operations and maintenance and reduce large initial investment costs

  • A Comparative Study on Neural Network Based Controllers Used in Grid-Interactive Solar System

    摘要: This paper proposes a comparative assessment of NN based current controllers followed by hardware validation towards power quality improvement in grid-interactive VSI controlled solar system. The steady state errors, transient disturbances and high current harmonic effects encountered in conventional linear PI and PR controllers are nullified by employing intelligent adaptive current controller. Three adaptive current control strategies viz. ADALINE-LMS, ALLMS, and VLAS-LMS are identified by using artificial neural network topology having been controlled by different weight-regulating algorithms which helps in minimizing current harmonics generated by the widespread use of VSI, non-linear loads, faults and uncertain polluted grid. A comprehensive comparative study is driven from the proposed adaptive controller’s stability and convergence criterion, current magnitudes calculated at different power zones, % overshoot, settling time and power quality and analyzed under numerous operating conditions. From the comparative assessment performed in between conventional and intelligent current controllers, it is confirmed that the intelligent control technique performs best under the non-linear loads and transient conditions whereas all the controllers perform equally good under the linear loads. Proposed methods are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and their effectiveness is compared in terms of time responses, stability and low-order current harmonics compensation capability. The robustness of the intelligent current controller is established through the experimental performances using dSPACE RTI 1202.

  • A new parameterization of the UV irradiance altitude dependence for clear-sky conditions and its application in the on-line UV tool over Northern Eurasia

    摘要: A new method for calculating the altitude UV dependence is proposed for different types of biologically active UV radiation (erythemally-weighted, vitamin-D-weighted and cataract-weighted types). We show that for the specified groups of parameters the altitude UV amplification (AUV) can be presented as a composite of independent contributions of UV amplification from different factors within a wide range of their changes with mean uncertainty of 1% and standard deviation of 3% compared with the exact model simulations with the same input parameters. The parameterization takes into account for the altitude dependence of molecular number density, ozone content, aerosol and spatial surface albedo. We also provide generalized altitude dependencies of the parameters for evaluating the AUV. The resulting comparison of the altitude UV effects using the proposed method shows a good agreement with the accurate 8-stream DISORT model simulations with correlation coefficient r>0.996. A satisfactory agreement was also obtained with the experimental UV data in mountain regions. Using this parameterization we analyzed the role of different geophysical parameters in UV variations with altitude. The decrease in molecular number density, especially at high altitudes, and the increase in surface albedo play the most significant role in the UV growth. Typical aerosol and ozone altitude UV effects do not exceed 10-20%. Using the proposed parameterization implemented in the on-line UV tool (http://momsu.ru/uv/) for Northern Eurasia over the PEEX domain we analyzed the altitude UV increase and its possible effects on human health considering different skin types and various open body fraction for January and April conditions in the Alpine region.

  • Interactive Colora??Changing Electronic Skin Based on Flexible and Piezoelectrically Tunable Quantum Dots Lighta??Emitting Diodes

    摘要: Inspired by animals in nature, such as chameleons, frogs, and cephalopods, the remarkable capability of changing one’s skin color has drawn considerable interests due to its wide applications in camouflage, warning methods, and visual communications. Today, research on electronic skins (e-skins), imitating biological skin by quantifying external stimuli, to mimic this unique color-changing function has been achieved based on the integration of a matrix of displays and sensors; however, integrated systems possess bulky and complicated fabrication processes. Here, the first attempt to demonstrate a single user-interactive e-skin device with color-changing response upon applied external strain is made, while using a cost-effective and space-saving method, which promises to open new possibilities for the development of next-generation e-skins with visual response.
