摘要: This paper experimentally investigates a simple configuration of an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) cavity to generate mode-locked and Q-switched pulses utilize graphene oxide as saturable absorber (GO-SA). The GO-SA chip is a chip placed as a sandwich between two fiber ferrules and incorporates a ring laser cavity to generate a pulse train. Results indicate that the cavity of passive Q-switching EDFL is capable of providing pulses at 1532nm with a pulse width within a range of 5.32μs to 2.6μs, a repetition rate of 59.5kHz to 71.74kHz, a pulse energy of 364.64nJ to 668.95nJ, and an output power ranging from 0.062mW to 0.136mW, when the configuration is pumped by a 980nm laser diode, the power of which gradually increases from 21.7mW to 47.9mW. The output of the GO-SA needs to be connected to 200m of a single-mode fiber (SMF) to generate mode-locked pulses at 1559nm when the pump power is 157.6mW. As a result, an output power of 1.29mW is delivered with a repetition rate of 1.002MHz.

Polarization-dependent pulse dynamics of mode-locked fiber laser with near-zero net dispersion
摘要: We demonstrate novel polarization-dependent pulse dynamics in a fiber laser cavity mode-locked by single-wall carbon nanotubes. By managing the net dispersion and polarization state, we obtain two noise-like pulsing procedures with distinctive polarization characteristics. Ultrafast polarization measurements reveal double pulses are produced by the combined effects of double-scroll chaotic polarization attractors and the polarization mode dispersion of single-mode fiber. The corresponding single-shot spectra provide evidence of coherent energy coupling between pulses during the switching process, due to the polarization hole burning of the active medium. The relative results provide new information for the polarization control of ultrafast lasers.

Generation of soliton rain in a passive mode-locked Tm-doped fiber laser at 2???μm
摘要: In this paper, the experimental investigation and theoretical analysis on the soliton rain generated in the Tm-doped ?ber laser have been carried out. On the basis of nonlinear polarization rotation technology, the fundamental and harmonic soliton rain pulses were obtained, the in?uence of net negative dispersion cavity length on the output performances of soliton rain pulse were studied, and the spectral sideband characteristics of soliton rain were numerically analyzed. By comparing the spectra of continuous wave mode-locking and soliton rain states, it can be found that the quasi-periodic modulation exists for the spectral sideband of soliton rain resulted from the complex interaction between the dispersive wave and the soliton wave. The interaction is one of the major factors for the formation of soliton rain. The research results are helpful for the better understanding of the soliton rain dynamics and mechanism in passive mode-locked ?ber lasers.

Optical deposition of PtSe2 on fiber end face for Yb-doped mode-locked fiber laser
摘要: In this work, the platinum diselenide (PtSe2), which was prepared by a simple selenization method, was deposited on fiber end face by a special optical deposition method. Compared to the more reported optical deposition methods operating in solution, our method is to complete the optical deposition from a polystyrene/PtSe2 film onto a fiber end face. Then, the optical deposited PtSe2 fiber was used as SA in a fiber laser cavity to generate mode-locking pulses. The central wavelength, pulse width and repetition rate of the mode-locked laser were detected to be 1067.5 nm, 1.9 ns, and 4.45 MHz, respectively. The obtained SNR of the output laser was 45.2 dB, indicating the good stability of the PtSe2-based mode-locked fiber laser. Our results also indicate that more 2D materials could be coated on the fiber end face using this special non-liquid optical deposition method.

Switchable dual-wavelength mode-locked fiber laser using Saganc loop mirror
摘要: We report an all-fiber switchable dual-wavelength mode-locked laser using a Sagnac loop mirror. In this laser, the Sagnac loop mirror acts as a tunable periodic filter, in which the wavelength spacing is determined by the length of the polarization maintaining fiber. With appropriate pump power, the mode-locked fiber laser can operate in both the tunable single-wavelength mode locking regime and the dual-wavelength mode locking regime by properly setting the states of the polarization controllers. In the single-wavelength mode locking regime, the laser achieves continuously tunable wavelength range from ~1551 nm to ~1562 nm. In the dual-wavelength mode locking regime, the laser can emit two stable asynchronous pulse trains with the central wavelengths of 1561.4 nm and 1551.1 nm, respectively. Due to the net negative dispersion of the laser cavity, the mode-locked pulse trains with different central wavelengths have different group velocities leading to a repetition rate difference of ~530 Hz.

RF Frequency Synthesizer Based on Self-Mode-Locked Multimode Lasers
摘要: Low-noise local oscillators are very important in modern communication systems. To realize a stable solution with a limited size, symmetric multimode multi-section semiconductor laser pairs are reported in this paper for building a chip-level RF synthesizer. The symmetric laser structure utilizes a shared distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) and counterpropagating laser output with the help of an external feedback circuit to achieve self-mode-locking. The achieved phase noise performance is -92 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset frequency for intermodal operation at 26.4 GHz using 5 locked modes, which is a 57 dB improvement compared to the free-running case. Moreover, an RF synthesizer covering frequencies of 11-13 GHz is realized based on the achieved mode-locked system using current tuning. The related phase noise of the laser pair beat-note output is -100 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset of carrier frequencies of 11-13 GHz, which is 58 dB better than the phase noise of the beat-note output without mode-locking over 11-13 GHz.

All-fiber sub-20a??ps ultra low repetition rate high peak power mode-locked fiber laser to generate supercontinuum
摘要: We report an ultra-low repetition rate self-started mode-locked fiber laser at 1.55 μm spectral region with a sub-20 ps pulse duration at repetition rate of less than 100 kHz leading to high energy and peak power pulses. A repetition rate of 13.8 kHz with the pulsewidth of 17 ps is then achieved and the issue of multiple pulses is mitigated in the linear cavity structure by proper selection of semiconductor saturable absorber and dispersion management in the cavity. A broad supercontinuum achieved using 7 m SM-ZBLAN fiber while pumping with mode-locked fiber laser with repetition rate, pulsewidth, pulse energy and peak power of 53 kHz, 12.5 ps, 16.6 μJ and 1.3 MW, respectively.

High-order actively mode-locked picosecond fiber laser and Poissonian single-photon source
摘要: We propose a novel scheme of high-order actively mode-locked picosecond fiber laser based on the nonlinear polarization rotation in a semiconductor optical amplifier, and experimentally demonstrate the 200th-order mode locking with repetition frequency of ~ 1.19 GHz and pulse width of 1.63 ps. The fundamental repetition frequency is accurately obtained to be 5.9639 MHz by spectrum analysis. Our laser is much easier mode locked and stabler than passive mode-locked ones. Taking advantage of the ultra-stable mode-locked laser, we obtain practical quasi-single-photon (QSP) source. Statistic analyses show that it approaches closer to the Poisson distribution at lower count rate. In our experiment, at count rate of 9.7 kcps or QSP emitting rate of ~97 kcps, it obeys a perfect standard Poisson distribution. The laser is convenient to be upgraded for higher-order mode-locked at repetition frequency over 40 GHz, which are suitable to generate high-speed QSP source for future quantum communications.
