Mode-locked All-fiber Laser Emitting Two-color High-order Transverse Mode
摘要: We demonstrate that the mode-locked all-?ber laser can simultaneously emit two-color broadband LP11 transverse mode in the near-infrared region by sharing a common mode-selective coupler (MSC). The MSC mode converter is designed to achieve simultaneous dual-channel mode conversion corresponding to the wavelength regions at 1.0 (cid:22)m and 1.5 (cid:22)m, in which each channel possesses broadband mode conversion from LP01 to LP11 mode with high mode purity. As a proof of concept, we implement an all-?ber ytterbium (Yb) and erbium (Er) doped ?ber lasers with mode-locked two-color LP11 modal output. The laser consists of two ring cavities combined with a common MSC mode converter. The generated LP11 modal pulses have a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 11 nm and 8.1 nm for Yb- and Er-doped ?ber laser (YDFL and EDFL), respectively. The presented ?ber laser would represent a promising light source in the ?eld of structured light and ultrafast optics.

Ultrafast mode-locked dual-wavelength thulium-doped fiber laser using a Mach-Zehnder interferometric filter
摘要: A simple and robust method to generate a dual-wavelength mode-locked laser using a tunable Mach-Zehnder filter (TMZF) and a single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) based saturable absorber (SA) is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed laser uses a thulium-doped fiber for lasing in the two-micron region and exploits the interferometric spectrum of the TMZF to produce dual peaks with nearly equal magnitude. SWCNT based SA enables mode-locking at a threshold value of 150.4 mW with distinct dual-wavelength peaks at 1919.2 nm and 1963.7 nm. The peaks have a calculated pulse width of 1.8 ps and 1.6 ps, respectively with a repetition rate of 9.1 MHz with a relatively high optical-signal-to-noise ratio value of 59.1 dB. The output is also observed to remain unchanged over time, indicating high stability. The proposed laser has a promising application, particularly in ultrafast gas molecular spectroscopy and sensing.

Mode-locked thulium doped fiber laser with zinc oxide saturable absorber for 2?μm operation
摘要: In this work, a 2.0-micron mode-locked thulium doped fiber laser is demonstrated using zinc oxide (ZnO) as the saturable absorber (SA) in a thulium doped fiber laser (TDFL). The ZnO nanorods was prepared by the facile hydrothermal method, and then embedded in polyethylene oxide composite film to form the SA. The laser is capable of generating soliton pulses at a central wavelength of 1945.45 nm with a 3-dB bandwidth of 3.47 nm. The pulse width is measured to be 1.395 ps, only slightly higher than the calculated transform-limited pulse width of 1.15 ps. The peak power of the generated mode-locked pulses is then calculated to be as high as 41.88 W, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 50.5 dB. The fabricated ZnO film in this work would allow the generation of mode-locked pulses, which could be useful for applications in spectroscopy and medicine due to the eye-safe and highly sensitive nature of the 2.0-micron region.

Rectangular Pulse Generation from a Mode Locked Raman Fiber Laser
摘要: Rectangular and step-like pulses are generated in a mode locked Raman fiber laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror. The Raman laser has a typical figure-8 configuration. Stable rectangular pulses with a fundamental repetition rate of 733 kHz are obtained. As the increasing of the pump power, the Raman pulse evolves to a step-like rectangular pulse. The maximum pulse energy is 64.1 nJ with a pulse width of 25.1 ns. After spectrally resolved measurements, the step-like pulse is proved to be induced by the dual wavelength oscillation. It is the first report of rectangular pulsed output in mode-locked Raman fiber laser to the best of our knowledge.

L-band tunable and dual-wavelength mode locked fiber laser with NCF-GIMF based SA
摘要: A hybrid structure of no-core fiber and graded-index multimode fiber (NCF-GIMF) is demonstrated, which can be used as both the saturable absorber (SA) and the wavelength selective element. By employing such a device, an L-band wavelength tunable Er-doped mode-locked laser is realized and stable single solitons of ~1.7ps, with continuously tunable wavelengths from 1574 nm to 1601.1 nm, are generated. Moreover, dual-wavelength mode-locked laser operation at 1575.4 nm and 1603 nm is achieved, with pulse duration of 1.2 ps and 1.7 ps, respectively. The proposed device is simple and compact, and represents an effective approach for tunable and dual-wavelength mode-locked fiber laser operation.

Soliton mode-locking in thulium-doped fibre laser by evanescent field interaction with reduced graphene oxide-titanium dioxide saturable absorber
摘要: Soliton mode locking pulse generation in a thulium-doped fibre laser (TDFL) by evanescent wave interaction from a D-shaped fiber coated with rGO-TiO2 nanoparticles is proposed and demonstrated. The rGO-TiO2 nanoparticle coating serves as a saturable absorber (SA), and generates a mode locked pulse with a repetition rate, average output power and pulse width of 9.28 MHz, 11.17 nW and 1.49 ps respectively. The proposed laser has a central lasing wavelength of 1939.4 nm, which is the longest as of yet generated by evanescent wave interaction in a TDFL. An average signal-to-noise ratio of around 50 dB is obtained from the generation pulse, with minimal power and wavelength fluctuations indicating high stability. The proposed laser would have significant applications in various fields, particularly medicine for its operation in the eye-safe region of 2 μm.

Limitations of graphene nanocoated optical tapers for high-power nonlinear applications
摘要: In this letter, we investigate the limitations of graphene as a saturable absorber for high-power nonlinear optical applications. The response of graphene nanocoated optical tapers against the average optical power injected is tested. We point out that the power handled by such components is limited and their nonlinear properties are strongly and permanently modified when exposed to high optical power. The origin of the degradation of the components is discussed.

Nonlinear multimodal interference for ytterbium-doped all-fiber mode-locking noise-like pulse generation
摘要: This work demonstrates the generation of the noise-like pulse (NLP) in an all-normal-dispersion passively mode-locked ytterbium-doped ring laser cavity with nonlinear multimodal interference as an equivalent all-fiber saturable absorber, for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Depending on the appropriate optimization of the intra-cavity birefringence and reasonable control of the curving curvature of the multimode fiber, self-started NLP operation can be built and maintained within a wide pump range. Additionally, the effect of the multimode fiber length on the NLP mode-locking performance and the generation of the high power NLP have also been experimentally studied.

Two-micron all-fiberized passively mode-locked fiber lasers with high-energy nanosecond pulse
摘要: We report on mode-locked thulium-doped ?ber lasers with high-energy nanosecond pulses, relying on the transmission in a semiconductor saturable absorber (SESA) and a carbon nanotube (CNTs-PVA) ?lm separately. A section of an SMF–MMF–SMF structure multimode interferometer with a transmission peak wavelength of ~2003 nm was used as a wavelength selector to ?x the laser wavelength. When the SESA acted as a saturable absorber (SA), the mode-locked ?ber laser had a maximum output power of ~461 mW with a pulse energy of ~0.14 μJ and a pulse duration of ~9.14 ns. In a CNT-?lm-based mode-locked ?ber laser, stable mode-locked pulses with the maximum output power of ~46 mW, pulse energy of ~26.8 nJ and pulse duration of ~9.3 ns were obtained. To the best of our knowledge, our experiments demonstrated the ?rst 2 μm region ‘real’ SA-based dissipative soliton resonance with the highest mode-locked pulse energy from a ‘real’ SA-based all-?berized resonator.

摘要: Bidirectional mode-locking pulse laser has attracted great attentions because of its simplicity and compactness for free-running dual-comb spectroscopy. In this paper, we developed an all-polarization-maintaining, bi-directional Tm-doped fiber laser at 2 μm with a single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) presented absorber mode-locking mechanism. By manipulating the polarization controller, changing the pump power and shortening the cavity length, we successfully obtain bidirectional mode-locking operations at different repetition frequencies, namely 35 MHz and 122 MHz. Besides, the repetition rate difference between clockwise and counterclockwise pulse trains is adaptable, varying from 764 Hz to 1.01 KHz at 35 MHz and 540 Hz to 1.8 KHz at 122 MHz.
