FRET-based dual channel fluorescent probe for detecting endogenous/exogenous H2O2/H2S formation through multicolor images
摘要: We have developed a FRET-based fluorescent probe (PHS1) as a combination of two different fluorophores (coumarin and naphthalimide); which can detect both exogenous and endogenous H2S and H2O2 in live cells through multicolor images. The precise overlap between UV-absorption of naphthalimide and the emission band of coumarin in probe PHS1 allows the acquisition of the self-calibrated information of dual analytes through FRET-based imaging. The UV–Vis absorption (λabs 390 nm) and fluorescence emission (λem 460 nm) of probe PHS1 in the presence of H2O2 are increased ∽35- fold and ∽15-fold respectively. It also allows the estimation of the levels of H2S through enhancement of emission intensity at 550 nm. The probe PHS1 exhibits high stability against various analytes, including various pH (4–9.5). The cell viability assay data indicate that the probe is not harmful to the cancer cells. The nontoxic nature of the probe PHS1 encourages application for cancer cell labeling. The probe PHS1 can detect the level of endogenous H2O2, H2S, and H2O2/H2S in cancer cells through blue, green and FRET-based green channel imaging. PHS1 is a unique probe, has potential application for diagnosing cancer by providing information on the level of dual analytes (H2S, H2O2) in cancer cells.

Water-sensitive ratiometric fluorescent probes and application to test strip for rapid and reversible detection of water
摘要: Naphthalimide-decorated fluorinated acetamides 1 and 2 were developed as solvent-sensitive dual emissive fluorescence probes. Particularly, 1 exhibited dual emission with a large Stokes shift for water, DMF, and DMSO solvents over other various organic solvents. The dual emission might be due to the increase of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) of the naphthalimide moiety through the association of the difluorinated acetamide group with the solvent molecules. The 1 can give rise to a ratiometric change in the dual emission and a visual fluorescent color change depending on the water contents in organic solvents, including ethanol, methanol, acetonitrile and DMF solvents. Moreover, the 1-impregnated paper strips showed a rapid and easy-to-visualize fluorescent color change enabling water detection in organic solvents. These simple-to-use paper strips were also found to be reusable over 20 times.

Multi-stimuli responsive novel polyimide smart materials bearing triarylamine and naphthalimide groups
摘要: Multiple stimuli-responsive smart polymers have received increasingly attention in recent years. In this work, a series of novel polyimides (PIs) bearing triarylamine and naphthalimide perssad were devised and prepared. These novel polyimides are able to respond to four different stimuli (light, pH, explosives and voltage) and perform four functions (light detectors, electrochromism, fluorescence detectors and memory devices). Furthermore, the smart materials are suitable for complicated environment. This work will open a new route for the development of novel smart materials with multi-functional and multiple stimuli-responsive properties.

1,8-Naphthalimide-based fluorescent sensor with high selectivity and sensitivity for zn2+ and its imaging in living cells
摘要: A novel 4-amino-1, 8-naphthalimide-based fluorescent sensor with iminodiacetic acid as receptor, was developed and applied successfully to image Zn2+ in living cells. Under physiological pH conditions, it demonstrates high selectivity and sensitivity for sensing Zn2+ with about 34-fold enhancement in aqueous solution, with a characteristic emission band of 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide with a green color centered at 550 nm.

A fluorescent turn-on probe for Hg2+ with a high contrast designed by manipulating functional groups tethered to naphthalimide
摘要: Based on the concept provided by our previous work on a fluorescent Cd2+ probe, a fluorescent turn-on Hg2+ probe with a high contrast was designed through manipulating functional groups tethered to naphthalimide. With carbamoylmethylamino and bis[2-(ethylthio)ethyl]amino groups as tethering functionalities, 1 worked as a useful fluorescent probe in a high selective and sensitive manner over the pH range between 6 and 8 with a detection limit at 2.8 nM (estimated at a pH of 7.2). Comparison of the probe performance of 1 with that of 2 merely with bis[2-(ethylthio)ethyl]amino group suggested that both of the tethering groups exhibited their abilities to chelate with Hg2+, and yet the carbamoylmethylamino group also functioned as a fluorescent off-on switch through a photo-induced electron transfer mechanism. Thus, 1 found a practical utility as an Hg2+ probe in analysis of river as well as tap samples without any tedious pretreatments.

Electrical characterization of two analogous Schottky contacts produced from <i>N</i> -substituted 1,8-naphthalimide
摘要: The aim of this study was to analyze the interface states (Nss) in pure Al//p-Si/Al, Al/N-F Nft/p-Si/Al and Al/N-T Nft/p-Si/Al Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs). N-Substituted 1,8-naphthalimide thin films were deposited on a p-Si substrate by spin coating and annealed at B200 1C for 60 s under an air atmosphere. Al contacts were obtained via reactive magnetron sputtering. The current voltage (I–V) characteristics of the SBDs were measured at room temperature. From the I–V characteristics, the SBDs ideality factor (n) and zero-bias barrier height values (Fb) of 1.27, 1.00, and 1.05 and 0.66 eV, 0.70 eV, and 0.64 eV were observed for the Al//p-Si/Al, Al/N-F Nft/p-Si/Al and Al/N-T Nft/p-Si/Al Schottky barrier diodes, respectively. The interface state density distribution profile (Nss) as a function of (Ess–Ev) was extracted from the forward-bias I–V measurements by considering the effective barrier height and (Fe) and series resistance (Rs) of the Schottky diode. The obtained Nss plot tendency showed that the existence of interface states has no significant effect on the rectifying and capacitance characteristics. The Nss values with the 1,8-naphthalimide layer were lower than that without it. This shows that naphthalimide exhibits a strong contribution by blocking the unwanted states and some traps in the conduction mechanism, which may cause possible cracks or deep paths for carriers to travel along the junction.

AIE active piperazine appended naphthalimide-BODIPYs: photophysical properties and applications in live cell lysosomal tracking
摘要: Piperazine appended naphthalimide-BODIPYs (NPB1–NPB4) exhibiting solvatochromism and aggregation-induced emission with a large Stokes shift (up to 146 nm) have been described. Separation of naphthalimide and BODIPY fluorophores by piperazine in these conjugates creates a donor–acceptor system and induces twisted intramolecular charge transfer, in addition to photoinduced electron transfer. The crucial role of naphthalimide, the alkyl chain length, the piperazine ring, and the solid-state packing on AIE has been extensively investigated by various studies. Superior cell permeability coupled with bio-compatibility of these conjugates offers a unique opportunity for their potential applications in live cell lysosomal tracking.

Rhodamine-naphthalimide demonstrated a distinct aggregation-induced emission mechanism: elimination of dark-states <i>via</i> dimer interactions (EDDI)
摘要: Rhodamine B-naphthalimide (RhB-Naph) demonstrated a distinct aggregation-induced emission (AIE) mechanism, different from the restriction of intramolecular rotations or vibrations as in traditional AIE molecules. The monomers of RhB-Naph were non-emissive, due to the presence of a dark S1 state. Upon molecular aggregation, intermolecular interactions significantly altered the electronic properties of RhB-Naph, leading to the formation of a bright S1 state and endowing RhB-Naph with notable AIE properties. Besides, we demonstrated that RhB-Naph enabled the development of a solid-state three-color fluorescent switch upon multi-external stimuli.

Self-assembled naphthalimide derivatives as an efficient and low-cost electron extraction layer for n-i-p perovskite solar cells
摘要: Based on self-assembly, novel electron extraction layers (EELs) composed of naphthalimide (NPI) derivatives are constructed for application in n-i-p perovskite solar cells. Upon molecular energy level modulation, the power conversion efficiencies have been largely improved from 5.4% to 16%. Such low-cost and highly regulable EELs are promising for future commercial applications.

Reversibly Photoswitchable Dual-Color Fluorescence and Controlled Release Properties of Polymeric Nanoparticles
摘要: Here, we report a novel polymeric nanoparticle prepared by the self-assembly of amphiphilic copolymers containing a ?uorescent naphthalimide (NAPH) and a photochromic spiropyran (SP), which possesses reversibly photoswitchable dual-color ?uorescence and controlled release properties. The amphiphilic copolymers were synthesized by incorporating NAPH and SP into methyl ether poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(β-amino esters) (MPEG-PAE) via quaternization. The nanoparticles would change between yellow and purple reversibly upon UV and visible light irradiation because of the photoisomerization between SP and merocyanine (MC). The corresponding ?uorescence would be switched between green and orange-red reversibly upon blue light excitation through the ?uorescence resonance energy transfer from the excited NAPH to the photoisomerized MC. Meanwhile, the prepared spherical nanoparticles could be swollen under UV irradiation as the hydrophobic SP isomerized to hydrophilic MC; the nanoparticles could also be swollen under acidic conditions because of the protonation of the amino groups of PAE. Upon UV light irradiation and acidic stimulation, the cargoes, hydrophobic Coumarin 102, encapsulated in the nanoparticles would be released. The prepared nanoparticles, which exhibit not only excellent reversible dual-color ?uorescence properties but also prominent controlled release performance, will open up new possibilities for the combined application of ?uorescence imaging and controlled release.
