Synthesis, characterization and comparative studies of nonlinear optical chromophores with rod-like, Y-shaped and X-shaped configurations
摘要: A series of highly polarizable nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores ZJ1-4 with three different configurations, including rod-like, Y-shaped and X-shaped configurations, have been synthesized with facile routes and systematically studied. The resulted chromophores exhibited excellent thermal stabilities. The relationship between molecular configuration and NLO activity was analyzed from the theoretical calculation and experiment. The molecular dipole moment of chromophore ZJ4 was enhanced by X-shaped structure with two acceptors. Meanwhile, the tendency of forming anti-parallel interactions could be inhibited by disk-like molecular configuration with larger steric hindrance. ZJ4 exhibits the largest EO activity of 103 pm/V, and both of molecular and material NLO properties are improved for the chromophore ZJ4 with the X-shaped configuration compared with corresponding benchmark chromophore ZJ1 with rod-like molecular structure.

Crystal growth and characterization of γ-glycine grown from AgSO4 for nonlinear optical applications
摘要: In the present work 0.1 M to 0.5 M proportions of silver sulphate (AgSO4) added glycine single crystals were grown by slow solvent evaporation method. The Powder XRD study confirms that the grown crystals have γ-glycine crystal structure and it crystallizes into a hexagonal structure with a non-centrosymmetric space group of P31. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of grown crystal was carried out as a function of frequency and the results were discussed. The positive photoconducting nature of the grown crystals was studied by the photoconductivity study. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown γ-glycine crystal was assessed by using Nd: YAG laser. The results confirms that the grown crystals have higher efficiency compared to the reference (KDP) crystal.

Structure, growth and characterization of a new naphthalene family crystal for fluorescence and third order nonlinear optical applications
摘要: In the present work we have investigated the fluorescence and nonlinear optical property of a new naphthalene family crystal, Decyl 6-(decyloxy)naphthalene-2-carboxylate (D6DN2C). This crystal was grown for the first time by slow evaporation solution technique (SEST). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that D6DN2C belongs to triclinic crystal system with centrosymmetric space group of Pī. The determined lattice parameters are a = 8.669(3) ?, b = 9.495(3) ?, c = 19.757(6) ?, α =82.697(1)°, β =77.726(1)°, γ = 65.465(1)°and volume = 1444.17(8)?3. Functional groups present in D6DN2C were identified by FT-IR studies. Transparency of the title crystal in UV–Visible region was analyzed and the optical band gap energy was found to be 3.51eV. Fluorescence spectra were recorded for the excitation wavelength of 300 nm. The negative third order nonlinear optical parameters like refractive index (n2), absorption coefficient (β) and susceptibility (χ(3)) were estimated by Z-scan studies.

Linear and nonlinear optical properties of CdSe/ZnTe core/shell spherical quantum dots embedded in different dielectric matrices
摘要: Based on a two-level system, the linear and third-order nonlinear optical properties are analyzed for CdSe/ZnTe spherical core/shell quantum dots embedded in various dielectric matrices including poly-vinyl alcohol, polyethylene and silicon nitride. Our results reveal that by increasing core/shell radii ratio the eigenenergies as well as the transition energy decreased. The presence of the dielectric mismatch in the quantum dot-matrix system can cause significant enhancement of the linear and third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities. We believe that our findings offer a new degree of freedom in optoelectronic device applications.

Investigations on single crystal growth and nonlinear optical studies of 2-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde
摘要: The optically good quality single crystals of 2-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde (2H1N) were grown by vertical Bridgman method. The thermal behavior of the grown crystal was studied by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The cell parameters of the grown 2H1N crystal were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD). The powder XRD (PXRD) was carried out to identify the crystalline planes. The nature of bonding and structure of 2H1N was analyzed using 1HNMR and 13CNMR. Functional groups of 2H1N crystal were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectral analysis. The optical transmittance was determined by the UV–Vis NIR spectral analysis and the grown crystal has good optical transparency in the visible region (300-900 nm). To analyze the third order nonlinear optical properties, z-scan study was carried out and the nonlinear optical parameters like refractive index (1.30 x 10-7cm2/W), absorption coefficient (0.0410-4cm/W) and the third order nonlinear optical susceptibility (1.90 x 10-6 esu) was determined. The optical limiting behavior and clamping measurements of 2H1N was 37.3 mW and 1.08 mW respectively. The dielectric constant (~12) and low dielectric loss as a function of frequency were measured to ensure the 2H1N has better optical application.

Dielectric environment effect on linear and nonlinear optical properties for CdS/ZnS core/shell quantum dots
摘要: The eigenvalues, transition energy, the linear and nonlinear dielectric functions have been numerically investigated for CdS/ZnS spherical core/shell quantum dots embedded in various dielectric matrices. The evaluation was carried out for three commonly used matrices, such as PVA, PMMA and SiO2. Calculations were done under the effective mass approximation and compact density matrix approach. Results revealed that the nonlinear optical property is strongly affected by the nature of the matrix material. By increasing core/shell radii ratio the energy states as well as the transition energy are decreasing. It is also indicated that the presence of the dielectric mismatch in the QD-matrix system can cause significant enhancement on the linear and third order nonlinear dielectric function.

Novel nonlinear optical chromophores based on coumarin: Synthesis and properties studies
摘要: Novel nonlinear optical chromophores JC-TCF and JC-FTCF using tetramethyljulolidine-based coumarin as the electron-donor and tricyanofuran derivatives as the electron acceptors were designed, synthesized and investigated. The obtained chromophores own good solubility in common solvents, and good compatibility with host polymers. The chromophores also have good thermal stability, and the decomposition temperature exceed 200 °C. The UV–vis spectra indicated that JC-TCF and JC-FTCF possess good intramolecular charge transfer ability. Density functional theory (DFT) was used to study the energy gap and ?rst-order hyperpolarizability(β). After contact poling, the guest-host polymer ?lms of polymethyl methacrylate containing 20% wt JC-TCF and 20% wt JC-FTCF exhibited the highest electro-optic coe?cient (r33) up to 40 p.m./V and 76 p.m./V respectively, and the results indicated the chromophores’ microscopic β value could be e?ectively translated to macroscopic EO activity, and the tetramethyljulolidine-based coumarin could be an useful candidate in the development of NLO materials.
