摘要: Simple modulation technique named polar modulation for converting QAM symbol to real and positive symbol is well known that the does not require the complicated process like Hermitian symmetry. However, there is a problem that the Euclidean distance between polar modulated symbols is uneven in constellation, thereby increasing the error probability of a specific symbol. In this paper, we propose an efficient polar modulation scheme which uses CR to uniform the Euclidean distance between polar modulated symbol. Simulation result shows that the proposed method has better BER gain and power consumption compared with general polar modulation.

摘要: In this paper, we present the design and implementation of analog front-end (AFE) module for patient monitoring system based on optical wireless communication (OWC). The communication link uses visible light as a downlink and IR as an uplink communication. The wireless patient monitoring system consists of two parts: host or coordinator and client or patient device. On the patient device part, we designed the PCB with a shield configuration so the AFE module can be connected directly to GPIO’s microcontroller unit (MCU) without any cable. Moreover, the AFE module is attempted to have a similar size with the MCU. Hence, the patient device has a small-size, minimum of wires, wearable, and low-complexity. The AFE receiver output is a digital waveform. Therefore, it is compatible with On-off Keying (OOK) modulation. The AFE module can be switched digitally up to 25 KHz of optical frequency for visible light downlink and 1500 Hz optical frequency for IR uplink. The optical link distance can reach up to 2 meters with 0o of reception angle.

摘要: The fifth generation (5G) telecommunications standards are being developed to meet the growing demands for high-speed wireless networks (i.e., few tens of Gigabits per second). The 5G standard stems largely from an increasing number of users and plethora of different devices, collectively referred to as smart devices, connecting to a network as part of Internet-of-Things (IoT). A few potential technologies have emerged for 5G such as millimeter waves, massive multiple-input multiple-output, and small cell communications. Although these technologies would satisfy the requirements of 5G, there is a complementary alternative wireless technology of optical wireless communications (OWC), which is being considered. As part of OWC, visible light communications (VLC) and optical camera communications (OCC) are the most attractive options for 5G networks and beyond. VLC with huge frequency spectrum integrated with IoT can open up a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications as part of future smart environments. This paper provides an overview of the all-optical IoT (OIoT) focusing on VLC and OCC based potential applications and challenges as part of 5G standards.

[Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering] Microelectronics, Electromagnetics and Telecommunications Volume 521 (Proceedings of the Fourth ICMEET 2018) || FSO-Based 5G Mobile Cellular Systems for Urban Canyons
摘要: Over the last few years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of people who are using high data rate services and applications. To be able to support the ever-increasing data rates to the end users, the time has come to consider other technologies which use the upper parts of electromagnetic spectrum other than the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. One such technology which can be used as an alternative to RF is Free-Space optical (FSO) communications. It provides higher bandwidth and improved Bit Error Rate (BER) performance because of negligible multipath and fading effect. In this article, the performance of an RF system and an FSO system using BPSK-subcarrier intensity modulation (BPSK-SIM) in a weak turbulent atmosphere are compared. It is found that from simulation results, FSO system has a performance gain of 62% over RF for achieving a BER of 10?5.

Dynamic Response-Based LEDs Health and Temperature Monitoring
摘要: this paper presents a number of novel methods to measure the junction temperature and to estimate the health of gallium nitride light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The methods are based on measurements of the dynamic impedance and optical output. Our experimental analysis reveals temperature sensitive parameters of the electrical and optical responses. Moreover, a correlation between the non-radiative current characterizing the defects in the active region and the small-signal impedance is demonstrated. The demonstrated methods can be applied to enhance existing techniques. The temperature-monitoring derived dependencies also build a foundation for advanced in-field monitoring health of the LEDs and for prediction of imminent failures using the infrastructure of visible light communication systems. Such models are valuable for predictive maintenance.

摘要: Communication systems have improved drastically over the years. There is a huge demand on the bandwidth and speed which has led to rigorous research in 5G communication system. This paper analyses the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of a system that is designed for high speed applications suitable for 5G communication. The proposed system includes a pre-post optical amplification process that yields a better result when compared to the other systems. The proposed system is analysed with various optical filters like Bessel optical filter, Trapezoidal optical filter, Gaussian optical filter and Fabry Perot optical filter. BER and eye patterns for the modified and proposed system with the above filters are simulated and discussed.
