  • High-Quality Cuboid CH <sub/>3</sub> NH <sub/>3</sub> PbI <sub/>3</sub> Single Crystals for High Performance X-Ray and Photon Detectors

    摘要: Organic–inorganic halide hybrid perovskite materials are promising materials for X-ray and photon detection due to their superior optoelectronic properties. Single-crystal (SGC) perovskites have increasingly attracted attention due to their substantially low crystal defects, which contribute to improving the figures of merit of the devices. Cuboid CH3NH3PbI3 SGC with the naturally favorable geometry for device fabrication is rarely reported in X-ray and photon detection application. The concept of seed dissolution-regrowth to improve crystal quality of cuboid CH3NH3PbI3 SGC is proposed and a fundamental understanding of the nucleation and growth is provided thermodynamically. The X-ray detector fabricated from cuboid CH3NH3PbI3 SGC demonstrates the firstly reported high sensitivity of 968.9 μC?1 Gy?1 cm?2 under ?1 V bias. The results also show that the favorable crystal orientation and high quality of cuboid CH3NH3PbI3 leads to better responsivity and faster response speed than the more common dodecahedral CH3NH3PbI3 in photodetection. Consequently, the work paves a way to synthesize high-quality perovskite SGCs and benefits the application of MAPbI3 SGCs with preferred crystal orientation and favorable crystal geometry for emerging device applications.

    摘要: Interest in anisotropic 1D and 2D nanostructures has been steadily increasing due to their large surface area, quantum con?nement effect, and superior optoelectrical or thermoelectrical properties. Anisotropic geometry and size reduction comparable to the Debye length can alter the optical, electric, and magnetic properties of the bulk counterparts. Focusing on MCs prepared in solution the major interests for practical applications are thermoelectric power phases, generation or electronic device cooling, high performance electrodes for batteries, nanocrystal-based photovoltaic devices, and photodetectors. Recently, new potential uses of the solution-based MC nanocrystals are being investigated, which include localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). MC thin ?lms prepared by the vacuum process have shown the possibilities as new class of materials such as topological insulator, semiconductor with a high electron mobility, and superconductor. Although the organic surfactants indispensable in solution chemistry diminish such superior physical properties, solution-based approach has large room to achieve such physical properties. This chapter will introduce recent advances in the practical applications of the anisotropic MC nanocrystals, and introduce brie?y the potential applications.

  • Novel Method of Determining Vehicle Cartesian Location Using Dual Active Optical Beacons and a Rotating Photosensor

    摘要: A novel system for sensing the location of a vehicle in a region of interest has been implemented; it has applications for mobile ground or aerial vehicle navigation (or positioning) in environments where other types of environmental localization are absent (e.g., lack of radio or GPS signals). The system uses photodetection of encoded laser-beam pulses emitted from a pair of beacons to gather information and perform localization calculations with reasonable accuracy. Testing of the realized system has shown consistent results that are in line with predictions from the previous model simulations. The approach of using dual angle-encoded beacons is shown to be a valid methodology for determining relative location and orientation in a sterile environment. Future optimizations would increase the pulse rates of the lasers, the rotational speed of the beacons, and use mirrors or prisms to replace the rotating detector with a stationary one.
