  • Nano-structural investigations of porous silica coated carbonaceous spheres and dielectric properties of its organosilicone hybrid film

    摘要: In this research, a series of carbonaceous spheres samples were synthesized by hydrothermal carbonization of glucose and cyclodextrin, and coated with mesoporous silica. The unique nano-structure of such carbonaceous spheres samples was fully characterized by DLS, XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy techniques. Such carbonaceous spheres samples were then blended with organosilicone in order to prepare a series of hybrid films. The influence of the added silica coated carbonaceous spheres on the dielectric property of these hybrid film samples was thoroughly investigated. The results indicate that the silica coated carbonaceous spheres are amorphous and have a typical core-shell structure. Such nano-structure and aggregation behavior in the organosilicone matrix can introduce more interfaces into the hybrid organosilicone film samples, and have notably affected the dielectric property of the hybrid organosilicon film samples. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the hybrid film samples could be kept relatively low if the introduced interfaces were blurred enough to avoid the interfacial polarity.

  • Boosted thermoelectric properties of molybdenum oxide thin films deposited on Si substrates

    摘要: MoO2+x has novel peculiarities and complexities due to multiple valence states of 4d molybdenum, but high carrier density impedes its thermoelectric (TE) application. Recent investigation has demonstrated that the TE performance of transition metal oxide films can be greatly enhanced by activating a parallel conduction channel in the perovskite substrates through reversible incorporation of oxygen. In this work, we report the TE properties of MoO2+x thin films deposited on single crystalline Si and quartz glass substrates by magnetron sputtering. The TE power factor (PF) in the former is above 40 times bigger than that in the latter. Such a large enhancement originates mainly from the significantly enhanced Seebeck coefficient, correlated with the contribution of the Si substrate. The highest PF value 1.78 mW/(m · K2) at 700 K in this MoO2+x/Si system is comparable to the state-of-the-art in other TE thin films. Based on the preceding research, our experimental results suggest a more economic and scalable route to explore high-performance TE thin films.

  • Enhanced UV emission of TiO <sub/>2</sub> –ZnO nanocomposite films synthesized by simplified sol–gel dip-coating method

    摘要: TiO2–ZnO composite film was regarded as a promising candidate for UV emitter devices. For exploring a lower cost and convenient preparation method for highly efficient UV-emission TiO2–ZnO composite film, we used a simplified method in which mixing ZnO sol and TiO2 sol directly to prepare TiO2–ZnO nanocomposite films with a varied atomic ratio of Zn/(Ti + Zn) (TiO2, Z20, Z40, Z60, Z80, ZnO) on glass substrates and discussed its optical properties for the first time in this study. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra indicated that the UV emission of the composite films was greatly enhanced compared with that showed by single-phase TiO2 or ZnO film. In particular, the UV emission intensity of Z60 composite film was enhanced by a factor of 10 compared to that of single-phase ZnO or TiO2. The enhanced PL intensity of the composite films could be attributed to fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET).

  • Temperature effect on structural, optical and NH<SUB align="right">3 gas sensing properties of TeO<SUB align="right">2 thin films

    摘要: TeO2 thin films with different temperatures (400, 450 and 500°C) were deposited on glass substrates by thermal evaporation technique from a Te powder. XRD patterns indicate that as the temperature increases, the crystallisation improves. Observing the images obtained by SEM, it is seen that the grain size decreases as the temperature increases. The optical energy gap of the films was determined from transmittance and reflectance spectra. The optical energy gap decreased continuously from 3.95 eV to 3.80 eV with increasing temperature. Studying the effect of deposition temperature on NH3 gas measurement, it became obvious that as the deposition temperature increases, the sensitivity increases and the response and recovery times decrease.

  • Bipolar Resistive Switching Effect in BiFeO3/Nb:SrTiO3 Heterostructure by RF Sputtering at Room Temperature

    摘要: The (001) oriented BiFeO3 thin film was deposited on the Nb: SrTiO3 substrate by radio frequency magnetron sputtering technology, and the bipolar resistive switching effect was observed in the BiFeO3/Nb: SrTiO3 heterostructure. The results showed that the ratio between the high resistance and low resistance was more than two orders at a reading pulse of -0.5 V and it exhibited excellent retention over 3600 s. The current density-voltage characteristic was dominated by the space-charge-limited conduction. The resistive switching effect of the structure was attributed to the trapping/detrapping of the charge carriers.

  • Photocatalytic Degradation of Reactive Brilliant Red X-3B Based on Microwave Electrodeless Lamp and Long Lifetime Immobilized TiO<sub/>2</sub>

    摘要: A novel photocatalytic system (MEL/TiO2/QS) based on microwave electrodeless lamp (MEL) and TiO2 films supported on quartz sheets (TiO2/QS) was established for high photocatalytic efficiency and long catalyst life. The results showed that the degradation efficiency for reactive brilliant red X-3B in MEL/TiO2/QS was equally as that in a suspended TiO2 system. Furthermore, under the microwave irradiation, the TiO2/QS had high catalytic activity after successively used 10 times without additional separation and regeneration. The pseudo-first-order kinetics was employed to describe decomposition of the dye and reaction rates at different initial dye concentrations, followed by the Langmuir–Hinshelwood kinetic model. The mineralization process and final products were also analyzed by total organic carbon (TOC) and ion chromatography (IC). The research might be useful in the commercial scale application of low cost and high efficiency photocatalytic process.

  • Improvement of Thin Film Adhesion Due to Bombardment by Fast Argon Atoms

    摘要: A new hollow cathode sputtering system is used for beam-assisted deposition of thin films on dielectric substrates. A copper target placed at the hollow cathode bottom is uniformly sputtered by argon ions from the glow discharge plasma filling the cathode. Through an emissive grid, sputtered copper atoms leave the cathode together with accelerated argon ions. On their way to the substrate, the ions—due to charge exchange collisions—turn into fast argon atoms bombarding the growing film. With increasing argon ion energy, continuous bombardment results in the film adhesion improvement and reduction of the deposition rate down to zero, at an energy of about 2 keV. The pulsed bombardment does not influence the film deposition rate, and results in a monotonic growth of the film adhesion up to 20 MPa when increasing the fast atom energy up to 10 keV.

  • Processing and Characterization of ZrO<sub>2</sub>-TiO<sub>2</sub> Porous Films by Dip Coating for Application as Environmental Sensors

    摘要: The main objective of this work is to study and characterize porous ZrO2-TiO2 films on alumina substrates that will be used for the production of porous ceramic sensors for the monitoring of air humidity in environments subject to the incidence of solar radiation. For the production of the films the dip coating technique was adopted. A viscosity study was performed to obtain stable suspensions of ZrO2-TiO2 in isopropyl alcohol with the para-aminobenzoic acid deflocculant (PABA), at concentrations of 10, 12.5 and 15% by weight of solids. X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterizations were performed for the identification of crystalline phases, morphological analyzes by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and chemical analyzes by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results allowed to determine the minimum value of viscosity and amount of deflocculant to stabilize the suspension. The sensor elements in the form of 1:1 (weight) ZrO2 - TiO2 porous films showed great potential to be used as sensors for the measurement of relative humidity the size and distribution of desirable pores in the porous film for application as moisture sensors was obtained with 12.5 and 15 % by weight ZrO2-TiO2

  • Hydrogen Gas Sensing Characterizations Based on Nanocrystalline SnO<sub>2</sub> Thin Films Grown on SiO<sub>2</sub>/Si and Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> Substrates

    摘要: High-quality nanocrystalline (NC) SnO2 thin films were grown on SiO2/Si and Al2O3 substrates using sol–gel spin coating method. The structural properties, surface morphologies and gas sensing properties of the NC SnO2 were investigated. XRD measurements showed a tetragonal rutile structure and the diffraction peaks for NC SnO2 thin films grown on Al2O3 substrates outperformed those of NC SnO2 films grown on SiO2/Si substrates. The surface morphology of the annealed SnO2 thin films at 500 oC appeared as polycrystalline with uniform nanoparticle distribution. Hydrogen (H2) gas sensing performance of the NC SnO2 was examined for H2 concentrations ranging from 150 ppm to 1000 ppm at different temperatures (room temperature, 75 and 125 oC) for over 50 min. The room temperature sensitivities for H2 gas sensors based on NC SnO2 thin films grown on Al2O3 and SiO2/Si substrates was 2570% and 600%, respectively upon exposure to 1000 ppm of H2 gas. While the sensitivity values at 125 oC increased to 9200% and 1950%, respectively.

  • Facile preparation of new polystyrene leucomalachite green thick films and study of their radiochromic behavior for low doses of gamma radiation

    摘要: Colourless polystyrene-leucomalachite green (PS-LMG) thick films containing a suitable chloroalkane were prepared by a fast and facile casting method, and were investigated for their radio chromic response behavior under the influence of 1.25 MeV γ-radiation. Their gamma response was studied in the 0.05 kGy to 10 kGy range to evaluate their suitability for potential use as the dosimeter in the radiation processing industries. The films were found to undergo a visibly distinct green coloration in the studied range, with the colour intensity increasing with an increase in the total dose. The radiochromic response of these films when investigated as a function of film thickness showed that the colour development as well as the linearity of the response was markedly affected by the thickness of the films. The effect of dye loading and the chloroalkane concentration on the radiochromic response of these films were also investigated. Depending upon the film thickness and reactant concentrations, the films were found to be capable of visually detecting gamma radiation doses as low as few tens of grays.
