摘要: Visible light communication (VLC) has the potential to serve as a high-speed underwater wireless connectivity solution to support real-time image and video transmission. Underwater propagation medium imposes additional challenges on the design of VLC systems which were originally proposed for indoor applications. Temperature and salinity fluctuations result in fluctuations of the refractive index of seawater and eventually introduce turbulence-induced fading. In this paper, to mitigate the effects of fading, we propose transmit laser selection for a diver-to-diver underwater VLC link where the transmitter has multiple laser sources and the receiver has one photodetector. The source with the highest received instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio is selected for transmission while the remaining sources remain idle. We derive a closed-form expression for asymptotical bit error rate over log-normal distributed underwater turbulence channels and derive the achievable diversity order. We further present simulation results to confirm our derivations and diversity gain analysis.

IoTorch: Reliable LED-to-Camera Communication against Inter-Frame Gaps and Frame Drops
摘要: LED-to-camera communication for smartphones promises to enable low-cost, small-size, and intuitive data access to Internet-of-things (IoT) devices. However, for fast and reliable communication under the rolling shutter effect, the packet losses caused by inter-frame gaps and frame drops must be dealt with. In this paper, we introduce LED-to-camera communication between a commercial smartphone and an IoT device with LED ?ashlight, where the user can intuitively acquire the desired data transmitted from the IoT device to the smartphone. Speci?cally, we present IoTorch, a fast and reliable LED-to-camera communication that ef?ciently prevents the packet losses. IoTorch consists of two core mechanisms: 1) a minimum-repetition one-way reliable transmission focusing on the periodicity of inter-frame gaps and 2) an acknowledgement mechanism to overcome frame drops by using a smartphone’s built-in ?ash focusing on its delay characteristics. Additionally, we propose an optimization method to increase the throughput up to 2.92 kbps (i.e., 2.43 times faster than that of the state-of-the-art method that overcomes the inter-frame gaps). Furthermore, we realize a remote wake-up function by using the smartphone’s ?ash as the data transmission trigger. To demonstrate the bene?t of IoTorch, we present a sensor data viewer using Arduino and a smartphone console system on TelosB.

摘要: The field of Visible Light Communication (VLC) has gained impetus these days due to the huge potential it holds in the form of data rate, frequency reuse and line of sight technique detection. This paper presents a simple for Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) in visible light its performance based on communication and evaluates practical implementation. The unique part of this system is that it is simple because it implements RGB LED itself as frequency selective receiver instead of photodetectors with optical filters. A quantitative analysis of the implemented system in the form of tables is presented in this paper. The results quantify the performance of RGB LED as a frequency selective receiver, in the form of cross talk between colors, and highlight the fact that proper software thresholding at receiver can allow simultaneous data transfer over different colored channels i.e. wavelength division multiplexing. As optical filters are not used for color separation and the LED itself is acting as the frequency selective receiver, the system is simple to implement. The functioning of RGB LED as a frequency selective receiver is explained with the help of semiconductor theory. The circuits for transmitter and receiver are also discussed in this paper along with hardware detail. The effect of hardware on data rate and other parameters is also discussed.

Realization of real‐time OFDM‐based visible light communication using an InGaN/GaN multiquantum‐wells LED
摘要: This paper presents a real-time OFDM-based visible light communication (VLC) system utilizing a single InGaN/GaN multiquantum-wells (MQWs) light emitting diode (LED). An MQWs LED with 3 dB electrical bandwidth of 23.8 MHz is developed as the transmitting device. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is employed to ensure the LED bandwidth is fully used, and the system is designed and implemented on a field-programmable gate array platform to realize real-time communication. The real-time OFDM-VLC system achieves a rate of 96 Mbit/s at the distance of 2 m, and the bit error ratio (BER) is 2.25 × 10?3, which is below the forward error correction (FEC) limit.

摘要: Multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) is one of the promising solutions for future network environment. Considering in most cases, the transmitters and the receivers cannot meet the requirements of the ideal layout. This paper presents an in-depth study on the channel matrix of the MIMO visible light communication system. The singular value decomposition (SVD) is used to select the transmitters which have good performance for transmission, and the corresponding power is allocated according to the principle of equal bit error rate (BER) of the receivers. Simulation results show that this method can effectively improve the channel capacity of MIMO VLC system, and can achieve good BER performance for each receiver.

摘要: In this paper, we propose a multi-access Internet of Vehicles (IoV) scheme based on multi-band DFTS-OFDM VLC system. The experimental results show that with the bandwidth of 62.5MHz, the dynamic range was enhanced 1.6 dBm employing SVM in hexagonal constellation Geometrically-shaped (GS) 16QAM and the overall capacity is 250Mbps.

摘要: In this paper, we propose a real-time Internet of Vehicles system based on an automotive headlight. The modulation format is OFDM-64QAM and we successfully reach the data rate of 375Mb/s by utilizing a FPGA as the central host. The transmission distance is 2.5m. We also investigated the performance of the system by calculating BER versus bias current, transmission distance and attenuation at both transmitter and receiver. As far as we know, this is the highest data rate of a real-time visible light communication system based on automotive headlight which can be used in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV).

摘要: Underwater optical wireless communication (UWOC) is an interesting area need to be explored. In recent years, underwater visible light communication (UVLC) is expected to act as an alternative candidate in next-generation underwater wireless optical communications for the Internet of Underwater Things. The challenge is that the absorption, scattering, diffraction effect and turbulence of water medium, which can bring large attenuation and nonlinearity penalty. Therefore, it needs to apply lots of advanced modulation formats which including orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S OFDM) and carrier-less amplitude and phase modulation (CAP) in UVLC signal system. What’s more, advanced digital processing algorithm such as pre/post equalization, nonlinear compensation and other algorithms based on artificial intelligence are needed. In this paper, we introduce three advanced modulation formats including DFT-S OFDM, OFDM and CAP employing probabilistic shaping for high-speed LED based underwater visible light communication.

摘要: We are interested in optimizing transmit beamforming for a visible light communication multiuser system such that the achievable sum rate is maximized. We ?rst derive a closed-form sum rate expression via information-theoretic tools. Then, by further including light-emitting diode optical power constraints, we formulate the rate maximization problem in a mathematical optimization form. To address this dif?cult non-convex problem, we establish an iterative algorithm that exploits sequential parametric convex approximation. Compared with the existing zero-forcing beamforming strategies, the proposed approach does not restrict the co-channel interference to be zero, and thus achieves a higher sum rate, as is validated by simulations.

摘要: This paper has explored an effective monitoring of Red, Green and Yellow colors using visible-light communication systems (VLC) as a backbone on traffic lights for easy detection of traffic control light colors in South Africa as well as African continent in context to the problem of consistency in the ON state of traffic control frequency information of detected colors is employed to determine their state for prompt response to the road users. The lifespan of each light emitting diode (LED) dies gradually due to constant heat in the ON-state thus leave some traffic lights not attended. This negligence is because of weak network monitoring techniques which result in vehicle-to-vehicle accidents (V2V), vehicle-to-pedestrian accidents (V2P) and vehicle-to-motorcycle (V2M) accidents. The researchers deploy a TCS3200 pixel color sensor to monitor the lifespan of each LED color in the traffic light and using their variation in frequency to yield the LEDs lifespan, linking them with one central network for display. This experiment guarantees the road users of a steady traffic light to regulate the passing of vehicles without any accident both in frost, high winds and raining season.
