  • Tuning optical properties of cadmium thiourea acetate nonlinear optical crystal exploiting organic ligand of L-proline

    摘要: Modifying optical properties of crystal is very fundamental need for designing various photonic devices, hence in the current investigation, the L-proline (LP) has been firstly doped in cadmium thiourea acetate (CTA) crystal with the aim to optimize the UV–Visible, second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency, luminescence and third-order nonlinear optical (TONLO) properties of CTA crystal. The pure and doped CTA crystals have been grown by slow solvent evaporation technique at 35°C. The structural parameters of grown crystals have been determined using the single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The incorporation of LP in CTA crystal matrix has been confirmed by Fourier transforms infrared analysis. The UV–Visible studies have been employed within the wavelength range of 200–900 nm to explore the enhancing impact of LP on CTA crystal. The LP doped CTA crystals were subjected to Kurtz–Perry test and Z-scan analysis to identify the nonlinear nature of studied crystals. The SHG efficiency of LP-CTA crystal shows significant increase owing to enhanced charge transfer over the organic ligand of LP. The laser-induced TONLO properties of LP-doped CTA crystal have been determined at 632.8 nm. The nature of nonlinear refraction and absorption has been explored by close and open aperture Z-scan configuration. The magnitude of nonlinear refraction (n2), absorption coefficient (β), cubic susceptibility (χ3) and figure of merit has been determined using the transmittance data. The color-centered luminescence studies have been carried out which established the prominent redshift in peak maxima of emission wavelength of CTA crystal due to doping of LP. Comparative analysis of pure and doped crystal confirmed the dominance of LP doping.

  • Structural, spectral and nonlinear optical analysis of Bis(2-methyllactato)borate tetrahydrate: a new nonlinear optical crystal for laser applications

    摘要: A new nonlinear optical crystal, ‘Bis(2-methyllactato)borate tetrahydrate’ (BMBT) has been crystallized by slowly evaporating the solvent. It crystallizes in the space group P21212. Sharp peaks present in powder XRD profile reveals the good crystallinity. Its transmission bandwidth (220 nm – 1100 nm) suggest that it can be used to generate UV radiation upto 220 nm and also in optoelectronic applications. Vibrations of functional groups (B-O, CH3, CO) associated with the crystal structure have been identified through FTIR and FT-Raman spectral studies. OH stretching vibrations have been observed near 3000 cm-1 clearly endorses the existence of water molecule in the BMBT structure. The chemical shifts observed in 1H and 13C NMR spectral results establishes the molecular structure of BMBT crystal. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency is obtained as 0.9 times of KDP. The third order nonlinear susceptibility (χ3), nonlinear refractive index (n2) and nonlinear absorption co-efficient (β) were found using Z-scan technique. χ3 of title crystal is found to be 4.16 X10-5 esu. The existence of SHG efficiency and the enhanced χ3 value are due to the hydrogen bonded intermolecular interactions present in the BMBT crystal structure. The observed results suggest that BMBT can be used in Q-switching, mode locking and optical sensors like night vision devices.

  • Facile preparation of high fluorescent carbon quantum dots from orange waste peels for nonlinear optical applications

    摘要: A facile and eco‐friendly hydrothermal method was used to prepare carbon quantum dots (CQDs) using orange waste peels. The synthesized CQDs were well dispersed and the average diameter was 2.9 ± 0.5 nm. Functional group identification of the CQDs was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectrum analysis. Fluorescence properties of the synthesized CQDs exhibited blue emission. The fluorescence quantum yield of the CQDs was around 11.37% at an excitation wavelength of 330 nm. The higher order nonlinear optical properties were examined using a Z‐scan technique and a continuous wave laser that was operated at a wavelength of 532 nm. Results demonstrated that the synthesis of CQDs can be considered as promising for optical switching devices, bio‐scanning, and bio‐imaging for optoelectronic applications.
