  • Nonlinear Refraction of Dielectric Single Crystals under Excitation with Ultrashort Near-Infrared Laser Pulses

    摘要: Nonlinear refraction in a number of crystals (KGW, KGW:Eu3+, Ba(NO3)2, BaWO4, PbMoO4, and CdWO4) that are promising for excitation of multifrequency stimulated Raman scattering is investigated by a single-beam Z-scan method. Picosecond laser pulses with a wavelength of 1064 nm generated by a YAG:Nd3+ laser were used for excitation of nonlinear optical processes. The values of n2 are compared depending on the type of the crystal, optical-axis orientation, and impurity concentration.

  • Improvement of the third order nonlinear optical properties of nematic liquid crystal under the influence of different compositional percentage of doped SWCNT and the external electric field

    摘要: In this research, the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) was doped with varying concentration (0-1 % wt.) of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) at room temperature to study the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of E5CN7@CNT cell.The third order NLO properties such as the nonlinear susceptibility, the nonlinear refraction (NLR) and the nonlinear absorption (NLA) were determined by using Z-scan techniques. The nonlinear studies have been done using a continuous wave (CW) He: Ne laser at 632.8 nm.Doping SWCNTs to eutectic uniaxial NLC (E5CN7) enhanced the third order nonlinear susceptibility, ??(3) and consequently the nonlinearity properties of composite systems improved.It is found that at lower concentration of CNTs (c< 0.75 % wt.), the third order nonlinear susceptibility are increased, but for concentration 0. 5<c<1 % wt., the third order nonlinear susceptibility are decreased. The negative sign of the observed NLR index, indicates that the E5CN7@CNT exhibits self-defocusing type optical nonlinearity. The two photon absorption (TPA) behavior, corresponding to negative sign NLA of samples. The reorientation of samples molecules amplifies upon the application of electric field, then nonlinearity increases.

  • The third-order nonlinear optical properties of gold nanoparticles-methylene blue conjugation

    摘要: Third-order nonlinear properties of a thiazine dye (methylene blue (MB)) and a plasmonic nanoparticle (gold nanoparticles (GNPs)) have been studied by Z-scan method with a 50 mW continues wave (CW) diode pumped solid state laser (DPSSL) operating at 532 nm. The nonlinear parameters (nonlinear refractive (NLR) index (n2) and nonlinear absorption (NLA) coefficient (β)) are determined. The mechanism of the observed NLA and nonlinear refraction is attributed respectively to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) and thermal nonlinear effects. The magnitude of the measured NLR index (n2) and NLA coefficient (β) are founded to be the order of 10?8 cm2/W and 10?4 cm/W respectively. The effect of MB and GNPs on each other has been studied. Z-scan experiments for GNPs-MB conjugation shows noticeable increase in nonlinear parameters.
