  • Structural and optical properties of doped ZnO/SiO <sub/>2</sub> nanocomposite

    摘要: The synthesis of ZnO/SiO2 nanocomposite doped with Co, Cu and Mn nanoparticles were performed using sol-gel method. Rietveld refinement analysis was done for the X-ray diffraction data and results showed that all samples are single wurtzite hexagonal phase and have an average crystallite size ~14 nm. The lattice parameters, bond length, crystallite size, microstrain, dislocation density and the system volume were studied in details. Transmission electron microscopy technique showed that nanoparticles characterized by an elliptical shape. Fourier transform infrared and scanning electron microscope techniques proved the presence of SiO2 in the system. The energy gap values of both undoped and doped samples with Co, Mn and Cu were 2.84, 2.47, 2.71 and 2.8 eV, respectively. Photoluminescence spectra for undoped and doped ZnO/SiO2 were investigated in details.

  • Enhanced sunlight photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue by rod-like ZnO-SiO2 nanocomposite

    摘要: This work aims to develop a novel and economical rod-like zinc oxide–silicon dioxide (ZS) nanocomposite by a simple co-precipitation method with different surfactants, such as cationic surfactant cetyl triethylammonium bromide (CTAB), non-ionic polymer polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), and an anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The phase identification, surface topography and optical properties were analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), UV-Visible and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of the prepared nanocomposite was measured using model organic pollutant of methylene blue (MB) in water under sun light irradiation. Due to surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of SiO2 nanoparticles, ZS nanocomposite shows an absorption peak (434 nm) in the visible region. Hence the maximal MB degradation efficiency of 97.8% was achieved under 90 min of sunlight irradiation. Among the three surface-active agents, cationic surfactant shows the highest degradation ability with ZS nanocomposite. This work will open a new platform for further development of ZS-based nanocomposites to solve the global photocatalytic and waste water treatment problem.

  • Effect of Calcination Temperature in Preparation of ZnO-SiO2/Laponite and its Physical Character and Photocatalytic Activity

    摘要: ZnO-SiO2/laponite was prepared by sol-gel preparation procedure consit of SiO2 pillarization to laponite followed by ZnO dispersion by using zinc acetate as precursor. The obtained material was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, diffuse reflectance UV-visible (DRUV-visible) and N2 adsorption-desorption analysis. The photocatalytic performance of the material in decolorization of methylene blue was also investigated. Compared with ZnO-SiO2 nanoparticles, it is concluded that ZnO-SiO2/laponite possess higher photocatalytic activity and influenced by calcination temperature.
