  • Luminescence and anion recognition performance of mononuclear Eu(III) complexes with N- and O- donor pyridine derivatives

    摘要: A series of Eu(III) complexes with pyridine-2-carboxamide (PCA), pyridine-2-carboxaldoxime (PCAO), pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride (PDCA) or pyridine-2-methanol (PM) as primary ligands and 4,4′-dimethoxy-2,2′-bipyridine (DMBP) as ancillary ligand were synthesized. The interaction between the ligands and complexes were confirmed by FT-IR study. The complexes were abbreviated as [Eu(PCA)3DMBP].Cl3 (C1), [Eu(PCAO)3DMBP].Cl3 (C2), [Eu(PDCA)3DMBP].Cl3 (C3) and [Eu(PM)3DMBP].Cl3 (C4). Optical studies were done by UV–vis spectroscopy and PL spectroscopy. The highest intrinsic luminescent quantum yield (53.42%) and lifetime value (1456 μs) were found for C3. Lowest quantum yield was exhibited by C2. Anion sensing studies of all the complexes were done by UV–vis and PL spectroscopy and it was observed that complex C1 showed remarkable change in optical properties upon addition of F? and HSO4? ions. Thus C1 can be used as optical sensor for F? and HSO4? ions. The FQD for F? and HSO4? ions were found to be 6.55 and 3.58 respectively for C1.

    摘要: Nowadays, evolving an advanced technology for the next generation of wireless cellular communication networks has put a great interest for researchers over the world. This aim is to accomplish the growing demand for advanced data rates. The fifth generation (5G) promises more advantages and benefits to the world. It will create an essential difference over 4G. The design of 5G antenna providing broad bandwidth is very important to ensure the performance of 5G networks. In this paper, microstrip antennas array of single, two, four and six elements dual-band (28/38GHz) for 5G applications are discussed. The proposed antennas are printed on 1.575 mm-thick Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate with dielectric constant of εr= 2.2 and loss tangent (tan δ) of 0.0009. They consist of a triangular shaped radiating patch fed by a 50 ? microstrip line. The antenna bandwidth is furthered by etching the triangular shaped slot on the ground plane. The highest gain is provided by the antenna with six elements array for both frequencies. The maximum gain of 7.47 dBi with return loss of -30.70 dB at 28 GHz and 12.1 dBi with return loss of -34.5 dB at 38 GHz are obtained.

  • Pattern Reconfigurable Wideband Loop Antenna for Thorax Imaging

    摘要: A unidirectional loop antenna that can achieve wideband pattern re-configurability from -40 to +40 degrees in azimuth plane is presented. The antenna is designed to fulfill the multi-slice (level) scanning requirements of electromagnetic imaging (EMI) systems for thorax imaging. To overcome the need for positioning of several antenna-arrays, and hence eliminate the mutual coupling related complications, a square-loop antenna with reconfigurable pattern is designed. To create a unidirectional radiation, the loop is loaded with capacitive gaps, which convert its radiation mechanism to that of two virtual dipole arrays with quadrature phase excitation. By utilizing this feature, the location of the gaps are varied on the loop's structure to form virtual dipole arrays in different directions, thus rotating the radiation pattern without physically moving the structure of the antenna. As a proof of concept, six gaps were created on the loop and each gap is loaded with a PIN diode to electronically switch between the positions of the designed gaps, thus enabling changing the radiation direction. The proposed antenna can achieve a compact size of 0.32λ×0.32λ×0.002λ (λ is the wavelength of the lowest resonance of the antenna) and a wide fractional bandwidth of 32% at 0.8-1.15 GHz, with a peak gain and front-to-back-ratio of 2.1 dBi and 8 dB, respectively. The antenna is successfully tested on a thorax imaging platform to detect small volume of water (5 mL) inside lungs as an emulation of early pulmonary edema.

  • Novel Phased Array-Fed Dual-Reflector Antenna with Different Orthogonal Cross-Section by Imaging Reflector Antenna and Ring-Focus Cassegrain Antenna

    摘要: We propose a novel phased array-fed dual-re?ector antenna that reduces performance degradation caused by multiple re?ection. The marked feature of the proposed con?guration is that di?erent re?ector pro?les are employed for the two orthogonal directions. The re?ector pro?le in the beam-scanning section (vertical section) is set to an imaging re?ector con?guration, while the pro?le in the orthogonal non-beam-scanning section (horizontal section) is set to a ring-focus Cassegrain antenna con?guration. In order to compare the proposed antenna with the conventional antenna in which multiple re?ection was problematic, we designed a prototype antenna of the same size, and veri?ed the validity of the proposed antenna. The results of the veri?cation were that the gain in the designed central frequency increased by 0.4 dB, and the ripple of the gain frequency properties that was produced by multiple re?ection was decreased by 1.1 dB. These results demonstrated the validity of the proposed antenna.

  • A Novel Miniaturized Planar Ultra-Wideband Antenna

    摘要: A novel miniaturized planar ultra-wideband antenna is proposed. The antenna design comprises an electromagnetically coupled structure and a tapered radiating slot, while a triangular slot is etched on the ground plane. The antenna miniaturization is realized by adopting an electromagnetically coupled structure formed by the notched half-ellipse patch and the strip attached to the ground. The proposed antenna can yield a large 10-dB impedance bandwidth ranging from 1.5 to 10.4 GHz with satisfactory radiation properties. It also features a physical size of 37.4 mm × 64 mm, equivalent to a compact electrical size of 0.19λ × 0.32λ at 1.5 GHz. The important design parameters are analyzed to comprehend the operating principle of the antenna. A good agreement between the simulated and measured results is achieved.

  • Transparent dual-band monopole antenna using a μ-metal mesh on the rear glass of an automobile for frequency modulation/digital media broadcasting service receiving

    摘要: A transparent dual-band monopole (Inverted-F) antenna using a micro-metal mesh film (μ-MMF) designed on the rear glass of an automobile (Hyundai K5) is presented. This design allows the optically transparent antenna to be installed in a wider space, thus overcoming the space limitation typically posed by roof-mounted shark-fin antennas. It can also reasonably solve the problem of low reception sensitivity and radiation interference from antennas operating in other service bands. The antenna is a combination of two simple monopoles operating in the frequency modulation (FM) (88–108 MHz) and the digital media broadcasting (DMB) (174–216 MHz) service bands. Measured reflection coefficients (S11) of the transparent antenna using μ-MMF are under ?6 dB (VSWR 3:1) in both the bands, and the radiation pattern shows directive patterns to the outward direction from the car; the average peak gains in the XY plane are 1.1 dB in the FM service band and 8.8 dB in the DMB service band.

    摘要: This paper presents a 3-D printed flexible heterogeneous substrate for wearable antennas with customizable bandwidth and gain. These performance parameters are modified by varying the ratio of percentage area of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) to NinjaFlex. Five flexible 3-D printed microstrip patch antenna (MPA) prototypes are designed, realized and measured each with different percentage area ratios, where the MPA’s RF performance is characterized with curvature. The five substrate designs are based on a combination of rigid ABS tiles of triangular shape surrounded with flexible NinjaFlex. All five designs show minimal antenna sensitivity to curvature, with a minimum resonant frequency shift of less than 1.2%. Results closely agree with simulations. Increasing the ABS area increases the MPA’s gain, but reduces the bandwidth and increases substrate rigidity. This results in a highly customizable and cost-effective substrate that allows the antenna designer flexibility in the choice of design parameters.

  • Single Flip-Chip Packaged Dielectric Resonator Antenna for CMOS Terahertz Antenna Array Gain Enhancement

    摘要: A single dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) capable of enhancing the antenna gain of each element of a 2×2 THz antenna array realized in a 0.18-μm CMOS technology is proposed in this work. The DRA implemented in a low-cost integrated-passive-device (IPD) technology is flip-chip packaged onto the CMOS antenna array chip through low-loss gold bumps. By designing the DRA to work at the higher-order mode of TE3,δ,9, only single DRA instead of conventionally needing four DRAs is required to simultaneously improve the antenna gain of each element of the 2×2 antenna array. This not only simplifies the assembly process but it can also reduce the assembly cost. Moreover, the DRA can provide great antenna gain enhancement because of being made of high-resistivity silicon material and higher-order mode operation. The simulated antenna gain of each on-chip patch antenna of the 2×2 CMOS antenna array can be increased from 0.1 to 8.6 dBi at 339 GHz as the DRA is added. To characterize the proposed DRA, four identical power detectors (PDs) are designed and integrated with each element of the 2×2 THz antenna array, respectively. By measuring the voltage responsivity of each PD output, the characteristics of each antenna of the antenna array with the proposed DRA, including the gain enhancement level and radiation pattern, can be acquired. The measurement results follow well with the simulated ones, verifying the proposed DRA operation principle. The four PDs with the proposed DRA are also successfully employed to demonstrate a THz imaging system at 340 GHz. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the proposed DRA is the one with the highest-order operation mode at THz frequencies reported thus far.

  • UWB radar cross section reduction in a compact antipodal Vivaldi antenna

    摘要: This paper presents the design of a compact antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) with reduced radar cross section (RCS) for directional UWB communications. The impedance characteristics of a conventional AVA are improved by introducing a BALUN taper in the ground plane and circular slots of different diameters in the wings of the AVA. The slots on the wings improve the RCS performance of the antenna by rejecting the orthogonal radiations from the AVA. Furthermore, drills of suitable diameter are introduced to further enhance the monostatic RCS performance. The proposed AVA offers 74% size reduction compared to the existing AVAs reported in literature with its bandwidth extending from 3 GHz to over 12 GHz. The prototype AVA is fabricated and the simulation results are veri?ed using experimental measurements. The prototype antenna offers at least 11 dB reduction in RCS throughout the operating bandwidth with a peak reduction of 16 dB at 7 GHz and 11 GHz.

  • Design of high gain, broadband resonant cavity antenna with meta-material inspired superstrate

    摘要: A broadband high gain planar meta-material based Resonant Cavity Antenna (RCA) operating at C-band is proposed. The RCA is modeled using simple ray tracing method. The unit cell metamaterial consists of Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) and square patch laminated on either side of a lossy commercial dielectric material of dielectric constant 4.4 & thickness 1.6mm, is used as the superstrate to design RCA. Square patch is the capacitive type and that AMC as inductive. Effects of the reflection phase of the substrate decide the high gain of the antenna. A cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) is embedded into the cavity as a feed. The proposed antenna achieves 22.4dBi gain with 2 layers of 4x4 array superstrate with a bandwidth of around 5.1GHz. The full-wave analysis is performed to extract the impedance matching, radiation pattern & gain of the composite RCA. A prototype antenna is fabricated and tested for verification of experimental results which was found to be well correlated. It also shows that the proposed RCA achieves -10dB impedance bandwidth of 72.72% ranging from 4 to 9.1GHz with a high gain around 22.4dBi.
