  • Driver’s eye-based gaze tracking system by one-point calibration

    摘要: The accuracies of driver’s gaze detection by previous researches are affected by the various sitting positions and heights of drivers in case that initial calibration of driver is not performed. By using dual cameras, the driver’s calibration can be omitted, but processing time with complexity is increased. In addition, the problem of disappearing corneal specular reflection (SR) in the eye image as the driver severely turns his/her head has not been dealt in previous researches. To consider these issues, we propose a gaze tracking method based on driver’s one-point calibration using both corneal SR and medial canthus (MC) based on maximum entropy criterion. An experiment with collected data from 26 subjects (wearing nothing, glasses, sunglasses, hat, or taking various hand pose) in a vehicle, showed that the accuracy of the proposed method is higher than that of other gaze tracking methods. In addition, we showed the effectiveness of our method in the real driving environment.

  • Epitaxial Graphene Sensors Combined with 3D Printed Microfluidic Chip for Heavy Metals Detection

    摘要: Two-dimensional materials may constitute key elements in the development of a sensing platform where extremely high sensitivity is required, since even minimal chemical interaction can generate appreciable changes in the electronic state of the material. In this work, we investigate the sensing performance of epitaxial graphene on Si-face 4H-SiC (EG/SiC) for liquid-phase detection of heavy metals (e.g., Pb). The integration of preparatory steps needed for sample conditioning is included in the sensing platform, exploiting fast prototyping using a 3D printer, which allows direct fabrication of a microfluidic chip incorporating all the features required to connect and execute the Lab-on-chip (LOC) functions. It is demonstrated that interaction of Pb2+ ions in water-based solutions with the EG enhances its conductivity exhibiting a Langmuir correlation between signal and Pb2+ concentration. Several concentrations of Pb2+ solutions ranging from 125 nM to 500 μM were analyzed showing good stability and reproducibility over time.

  • Potential of GAGG:Ce scintillation crystals for synchrotron X-Ray micro-imaging

    摘要: We examined the use of cerium-doped gadolinium aluminum gallium garnet (GAGG:Ce) as a material for scintillation screens in synchrotron X-ray radiography (SXR). Highlighted for gamma-ray detection, GAGG:Ce is also an attractive material for SXR because of its high X-ray stopping power and the high light yield at around 530 nm. A thin and transparent screen prepared from our grown ingot of GAGG:Ce was compared with commonly used scintillators of CdWO4 and YAG:Ce in terms of image quality under monochromatic X-ray illumination. Micron spatial resolutions were achieved with comparable image quality, suggesting that a single crystal of GAGG:Ce is competent scintillation material for SXR.

  • Bioinspired Color Changing Molecular Sensor toward Early Fire Detection Based on Transformation of Phthalonitrile to Phthalocyanine

    摘要: The fire detection plays a critical role in the maintenance of public security. Previous approaches of early fire warning, based on smoke or temperature response must be set in the proximity of a fire. They cannot provide the additional information of fire location or size and are susceptible to complicated situations. It is still a big challenge to make rapid and accurate early fire warning in precombustion because of the lack of reliable alarm signals. Herein, a precursor molecular sensor (PMS) is designed and synthesized that can present the chemical structure transformation to form phthalocyanines (Pcs) and release a color change signal at about 180 °C, learning from the plant chlorophyll metabolism. Further, the PMS is assembled to an early fire warning component (EWC) and an intelligent image recognition algorithm is introduced for unburned fire detection. The EWC generates a colorful alarm within 20 s at 275 °C. Therefore, the facile PMS provides a reliable real-time monitoring strategy to the early fire warning detection in precombustion.

  • DeepPrimitive: Image decomposition by layered primitive detection

    摘要: The perception of the visual world through basic building blocks, such as cubes, spheres, and cones, gives human beings a parsimonious understanding of the visual world. Thus, efforts to find primitive-based geometric interpretations of visual data date back to 1970s studies of visual media. However, due to the difficulty of primitive fitting in the pre-deep learning age, this research approach faded from the main stage, and the vision community turned primarily to semantic image understanding. In this paper, we revisit the classical problem of building geometric interpretations of images, using supervised deep learning tools. We build a framework to detect primitives from images in a layered manner by modifying the YOLO network; an RNN with a novel loss function is then used to equip this network with the capability to predict primitives with a variable number of parameters. We compare our pipeline to traditional and other baseline learning methods, demonstrating that our layered detection model has higher accuracy and performs better reconstruction.

  • Design, synthesis and photophysical studies of improved xanthene dye to detect acetate

    摘要: Development of biomarkers of analytes with interest in clinic is an important field of study. In this work, we synthesized and analyzed the new fluorescent acetate-biomarker, Iso-PG. The mechanism of detection is the acetate buffer mediated proton transfer reaction. The rate constants involved were obtained, and we measured the change in the fluorescence lifetime produced as a consequence of the presence of acetate in the medium. Finally, we checked its potential use as acetate biomarker in synthetic serum.

  • Gold Nanorod-Coated Capillaries for the SERS-Based Detection of Thiram

    摘要: Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based capillary system is a promising route towards fast, real-time and in-situ detection using a facile sampling process. Here, we demonstrate for the first time resonance-tunable SERS-active capillaries with high sensitivity, reproducibility and stability. The strong signal consistency independent of measurement spots or storage time supports the long-term storage and signal tracking of analytes in practical use. The capillaries were successfully applied to the in-situ detection of pesticide residues, and the sampling process provides operation conveniency compared to conventional methods. These results indicate that our SERS-active capillaries have great potentials in fast in-situ detection for many practical applications.

  • PV shading fault detection and classification based on I-V curve using principal component analysis: Application to isolated PV system

    摘要: Health monitoring and diagnosis of photovoltaic (PV) systems is becoming crucial to maximise the power production, increase the reliability and life service of PV power plants. Operating under faulty conditions, in particular under shading, PV plants have remarkable shape of current-voltage (I-V) characteristics in comparison to reference condition (healthy operation). Based on real electrical measurements (I-V), the present work aims to provide a very simple, robust and low cost Fault Detection and Classi?cation (FDC) method for PV shading faults. At ?rst, we extract the features for di?erent experimental tests under healthy and shading conditions to build the database. The features are then analysed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The accuracy of the data classi?cation into the PCA space is evaluated using the confusion matrix as a metric of class separability. The results using experimental data of a 250 Wp PV module are very promising with a successful classi?cation rate higher than 97% with four di?erent con?gurations. The method is also cost e?ective as it uses only electrical measurements that are already available. No additional sensors are required.

  • A change detection framework by fusing threshold and clustering methods for optical medium resolution remote sensing images

    摘要: In change detection (CD) of medium-resolution remote sensing images, the threshold and clustering methods are two kinds of the most popular ones. It is found that the threshold method of the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm usually generates a CD map including many false alarms but almost detecting all changes, and the fuzzy local information c-means algorithm (FLICM) obtains a homogenous CD map but with some missed detections. Therefore, a framework is designed to improve CD results by fusing the advantages of the threshold and clustering methods. The CD map generated by the clustering method of FLICM is used to remove false alarms in the CD map obtained by EM threshold method by an overlap fusion. Then, the local Markov random field model is implemented to verify the potentially missed detections. Finally, a fused CD map with less false alarms and missed detections is achieved. Two experiments were carried out on two Landsat ETM+ data sets. The proposed method obtained the least errors (1.11% and 3.51%) and the highest kappa coefficient (0.9366 and 0.8834), respectively, when compared with five popular CD methods.

  • [Zn(OOCH)2(4,4′-bipyridine)] : A metal-organic-framework (MOF) with x-ray-induced photochromic behaviour at room temperature

    摘要: Materials that may show photochromism under X-rays have higher spatial resolution for visual low-energy X-rays detection over the commercial instruments and greater X-ray sensitivity than silver salt-based radiographic films. In this work, we discovered that the known MOF, [Zn(OOCH)2(Bpy)]n (Bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), showed rare photochromic behaviour upon irradiation of hard and soft X-rays at room temperature.
