  • 400-Gb/s Single-Photodiode Polarization-Agnostic Kramers-Kronig Reception of Distributedly Aggregated Superchannel

    摘要: In its most simple implementation, the Kramers-Kronig (KK) scheme allows the reception of complex modulation formats with a single photodiode. Thereby, in analogy to a heterodyne receiver, an additional continuous wave signal is used which allows under certain conditions the distortion-free reconstruction of the data signal. We present experimental investigations on a novel Kramers-Kronig scheme based on inherently carrier generation at the receiver. We use a distributed superchannel aggregation scheme to demonstrate ultra-wideband single-photodiode reception of a 3×33-GBd single-polarization 32QAM superchannel with this scheme. The impact of polarization rotations is discussed, and we show that variations in data or Kramers-Kronig carrier polarization will only affect the carrier-to-signal power ratio (CSPR), leading to an increase or decrease from the optimum CSPR by about 6 dB. 400-Gb/s net capacity is demonstrated for optimized conditions. In addition, we demonstrate transmission measurements over a 60-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) link with a 344-Gb/s net rate superchannel (3×28 GBd sub-carriers) with the novel Kramers-Kronig scheme.

  • Performance analysis of direct detection optical OFDM systems

    摘要: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a multicarrier modulation technique, in which the data information is carried over many lower rate subcarriers. This technique is started effectively using in both line communication and wireless communication systems. This modulation technique has been actively started in the field of light wave communication called optical OFDM (OOFDM) system. OOFDM is a multicarrier modulation technique; it is used to overcome the problem of inter-symbol interference due to the chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion of the fiber channel. In this paper, we have done simulation on direct detection optical OFDM (DDOOFDM) system with data rate of 10Gbps and measuring performance analysis of DDOOFDM system with respect to the received optical power and various full width half maximum value of the continuous wave laser source. This analysis is simulated using RSOFT Design Group OptSim Version-5.2.

    摘要: There is a growing research interest towards high-capacity communication systems for inter data-center (~80 km) communications. While coherent systems are a mature and high-performance technology, their cost is still very high compared to simpler direct-detection solutions. Recently, advanced digital signal processing (DSP) techniques, such as Single Side-Band (SSB) transmission and Kramers-Kronig (KK) receivers have been proposed to increase both spectral efficiency and reach of such direct-detection systems. Apart from the DSP techniques, the main drawback of these solutions is the requirement of a strong (i.e. several decibels higher than the signal) carrier added at the transmitter. This solution inevitably decreases the resulting signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) and potentially increase the impact of fiber Kerr non-linearities. In this contribution, will provide further insights on the practical implementation penalties which arise from the addition of such carrier in the framework of single-sideband DMT solutions. In particular, we will focus on the modulator biasing technique to add such carrier.

  • Machine Learning for 100Gb/s/λ Passive Optical Network

    摘要: To respond the growing bandwidth demand by emerging applications such as fixed-mobile convergence for 5G and beyond 5G, 100Gb/s/λ access network becomes the next research focus of passive optical network (PON) roadmap. Intensity modulation and direct detection (IMDD) technology is still considered as a promising candidate for 100Gb/s/λ PON attributed to its low cost, low power consumption and small footprint. In this paper, we achieve 100Gb/s/λ IMDD PON by using 20G-class optical and electrical devices due to its commercial linear and nonlinear availability. To mitigate the system distortions, neural network (NN) based equalizer is used and the performance is compared with feedforward equalizer (FFE) and Volterra nonlinear equalizer (VNE). We introduce the rules to train and test the data when using NN-based equalizer to guarantee a fair comparison with FFE and VNE. Random data has to be used for training, but for test, both random data and psudo-random bit sequence (PRBS) are applicable. We found NN-based equalizer has the same performance with FFE and VNE in the case of linear distortion only, but outperforms them in strong nonlinearity case. In the experiment, to improve the loss budget, we increase the launch power to 18 dBm, achieving a 30-dB loss budget for 33Gbaud/s PAM8 signal at the system frequency response of 16.2 GHz, attributed to the strong nonlinear equalization capability of NN.
