  • Lead-free Ag <sub/> 1-3 <i>x</i> </sub> La <sub/><i>x</i> </sub> NbO <sub/>3</sub> Antiferroelectric Ceramics with High Energy Storage Density and Efficiency

    摘要: Environmentally benign lead-free bulk ceramics with high recoverable energy density (Wrec) are very attractive in advanced pulsed power capacitors. In this work, composition engineering was adopted by La3+ modification to improve the energy storage performance of Ag1-3xLaxNbO3 ceramics. It was found the antiferroelectric (AFE) phase was stabilized after La3+ substitution, as a result of the reduced tolerance factor t. Significant improvement of Wrec and energy storage efficiency (η) were achieved with value of 3.12 J/cm3 and 0.63 for x=0.02 at an electric field of 230 kV/cm, more than 1.5 times the value of pure AgNbO3 (Wrec=1.9 J/cm3, η=0.40). The excellent energy storage properties are resulted from the increased antiferroelectric-ferroelectric phase transition electric field (EF), ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transition electric field (EA) and breakdown electric field (Eb). The enhanced Eb was ascribed to the decreased grain size and increased electrical resistivity upon La3+ modification. The feature makes Ag1-3xLaxNbO3 a potential candidate for energy storage applications.

  • Significance of Micro and Nano PZT Particles on Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of PZT-PVDF Composites

    摘要: PZT-PVDF composites were prepared using different particle size of PZT and a hot press apparatus has been used for making samples. The structural and compositional analysis of the composite sample was done by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Analysis of X-rays (EDAX) respectively. The grain size of the ball milled PZT powder was analyzed using powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The samples were poled at a fixed temperature for about an hour under different poling fields. The dielectric constant (εr) and the piezoelectric properties like piezoelectric strain coefficient (d33) and voltage coefficient (g33) of composite have been analyzed.

  • A thermodynamic potential for barium zirconate titanate solid solutions

    摘要: Barium zirconate titanate [Ba(ZrxTi1?x)O3] solid solutions are promising lead-free ferroelectric materials that have received substantial interest. Thermodynamic analysis based on phenomenological Landau–Devonshire theory is a powerful method for theoretical investigation of ferroelectric materials, but cannot be applied to Ba(ZrxTi1?x)O3 because there is no thermodynamic potential. In this paper, a thermodynamic potential for Ba(ZrxTi1?x)O3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) solid solutions is constructed, and then a thermodynamic analysis carried out. The results accurately reproduce known phase structures and their transition temperatures, with good agreement with experimentally measured polarization, dielectric, and piezoelectric constants. It is found that Ba(ZrxTi1?x)O3 solid solutions at room temperature have three phase boundaries, including a tetragonal–orthorhombic phase boundary at x = 0.013, an orthorhombic–rhombohedral phase boundary at x = 0.0798, and a rhombohedral–paraelectric phase boundary at x = 0.2135. The results also indicate that the chemical composition-induced ferroelectric–paraelectric phase boundary has superior electromechanical properties, suggesting a new way to enhance electromechanical coupling in Ba(ZrxTi1?x)O3 solid solutions.

  • Polarization and charge carrier density coupling in epitaxial PbZr <sub/>0.2</sub> Ti <sub/>0.8</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> /ZnO heterostructures

    摘要: The integration of ferroelectric materials with semiconductor heterostructures can greatly enhance the functionality of electronic devices, provided the ferroelectric material retains a significant part of its switchable polarization. This work reports polarization switching in epitaxial PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3/ZnO/GaN heterostructures grown on c-cut sapphire single-crystal substrates. The electrical measurements of PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3/ZnO ferroelectric/semiconductor capacitors reveal an unexpected difference between a counterclockwise ferroelectric hysteresis loop and a clockwise C-V loop. A non-linear hysteretic behavior of the capacitance is observed in the voltage range that is at least 3 times narrower than the range of ferroelectric polarization switching voltages. This difference can be explained by charge injection effects at the interface between ferroelectrics and semiconductors. The interaction between electric polarization and the electronic structure of the heterojunction leads to capacitance and charge carrier concentrations that are switchable by polarization of the ferroelectric layer. These findings are important for both fundamental and applied research of switchable and highly tunable ferroelectric/semiconductor heterostructures.

  • Determination of 60° polarization nanodomains in a relaxor-based ferroelectric single crystal

    摘要: Here, we report a determination of monoclinic nanodomains in PMN-xPT with x ? 31%PT by using scanning convergent beam electron diffraction (SCBED). We show the presence of 60 6 a degree nanodomains with Cm-like symmetry as well as signi?cant variations (a) in local polarization directions across lengths of (cid:3)10 nm. The principle of our technique is general and can be applied for the determination of polarization domains in other ferroelectric materials of different symmetry. VC 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.   • Cation Exchange as a Mechanism to Engineer Polarity in Layered Perovskites.

    摘要: Cation exchange reactions performed on the n = 2 Dion-Jacobson phases RbNdNb2O7 and RbNdTa2O7, using LiNO3 and NaNO3, yield the corresponding LiNdM2O7 and NaNdM2O7 (M = Nb, Ta) phases. Synchrotron X-ray and neutron powder diffraction data, in combination with second-harmonic generation data and supported by first-principles DFT calculations, reveal that the LiNdM2O7 phases adopt n = 2 Ruddlesden-Popper type structures with an aˉaˉc+/-(aˉaˉc+) distortion described in the polar space group B2cm. In contrast, the NaNdM2O7 phases adopt n = 2 Ruddlesden-Popper type structures with an aˉb0c0/b0aˉc0 distortion, described in the centrosymmetric space group P42/mnm. The differing structures adopted by the LiNdM2O7 and NaNdM2O7 phases are rationalized on the basis of a competition between i) optimizing the size of the Li/Na coordination site via octahedral tilting and ii) ordering the Na/Li cations within the (Li/Na)O2 sheets to minimize cation-cation repulsion – the former appears to be the dominant factor for the Li phases and the latter factor dominates for the Na phases. The strong A’-cation dependence of the tilting distortions adopted by the A’NdM2O7 phases suggests that by careful selection of the substituting cation the tilting distortions of layered perovskite phases can be rationally tuned to adopt polar configurations, and thus new ferroelectric phases can be synthesized.

  • Electrically Responsive Materials and Devices Directly Driven by the High Voltage of Triboelectric Nanogenerators

    摘要: Smart materials with electrically responsive characteristics and devices relying on different electrostatic effects can be directly driven by triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). The open circuit voltage from a TENG can easily reach thousands of volts with a separation distance of a few millimeters and this high output voltage can be used to effectively drive or control some devices with high internal resistance. This kind of combination is the most straightforward way for achieving a self-powered smart system. Hence, a detailed survey of electrically responsive materials and devices that can be successfully combined with TENG is summarized, including dielectric elastomers, piezoelectric materials, ferroelectric materials, electrostatic manipulators, electrostatic air cleaners, and field emission and mass spectrometers. Moreover, key factors in determining suitable materials or devices to work with TENG are clarified and an in-depth discussion of the current challenges related to these combined systems is provided. With the cost-effectiveness and simple manufacturing process, these TENG-based composite systems have great application prospects in the field of smart mechanics, human–machine interaction systems, intelligent storage systems, self-powered microfluidic chips, portable mass spectrometers, and so on.

    摘要: A method for the measurement of the remnant polarisation charge of ferroelectric ?lms at the nanoscale is proposed. It is based on current measurement by an atomic force microscope and imposes a capacitive correction in order to extract the signal from the noise, several orders of magnitude higher than the signal to be measured. A remnant charge of 4.2 fC could be measured on a PbZrTiO3 thin ?lm. Solutions to decrease the noise are proposed.

  • Structure development and dielectric properties of Zn-doped Pb([Mg,Fe],W)O <sub/>3</sub> perovskite ceramics

    摘要: Ceramic samples of a pseudo-binary system Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3-Pb(Fe2/3W1/3)O3 (PMW-PFW) were prepared by solid-state reaction. In addition, their compositions were modified by 20 mol% Pb(Zn1/2W1/2)O3 (PZW) doping in order to investigate the role of zinc in the perovskite formation and dielectric properties. The perovskite contents were ≥95.1% at the overall composition range, except for a significantly low value of 79.0% at 0.8PFW-0.2PZW. The extension of sintering time for PMW accelerated superstructure formation, resulting in the ordering factor increased up to 0.40 after 12 h heat treatment. The maximum dielectric constant values increased with increasing PFW fractions. In comparison, the phase transition temperatures decreased sharply (by up to 161 ℃) at low concentrations of PFW, followed by mild changes (by up to 47 ℃) afterwards. The dielectric constant spectra were analyzed in terms of diffuseness characteristics, which reflected the phase transition modes quite well.

  • Structural transformations and physical properties of (1-x) Na<sub>0.5</sub>Bi<sub>0.5</sub>TiO<sub>3-x</sub> BaTiO<sub>3</sub> solid solutions near morphotropic phase boundary

    摘要: Piezoelectric and other physical properties are significantly enhanced at (or near) a morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in ferroelectrics. MPB materials have attracted significant attention owing to both fundamental physics as well as the possibility of well-regulated energy and information storage devices which are dominated by lead (Pb)-based materials. Here, we report the crystal structure, Raman spectra, dielectric constant and polarization near the MPB of lead free (1-x) Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 - x BaTiO3 (NBT - BT) (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.10) solid-solution, prepared by sol-gel auto combustion technique and sintered by microwave sintering technique. With the addition of BaTiO3 into Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3, it induces a structural phase transition from R3c (a single phase) to R3c+P4mm (a dual phase) close to x = 0.06 and 0.07 and transform to a high symmetry tetragonal phase P4mm at higher compositions (x = 0.08 to 0.10) as evident from our X-ray Rietveld refinement and Raman spectroscopic results. In the prepared solid solution, an anomalous enhancement of remnant polarization (2Pr0) was observed for x = 0.06 and 0.07, which has been explained based on the existence of the MPB. On the other hand, the value of coercive field EC0 was found to be decreased linearly from x = 0.00 to 0.06; it is constant for higher compositions. Further details of the ferroelectric properties on the electric field poled samples have been studied and compared with the as-grown (unpoled) samples. We perform first-principles calculations based on density functional theory that confirm a structural transition from a rhombohedral to a tetragonal phase under increasing x.
