  • Design of High Temperature Superconducting Dual-Band Filter with Multiple Transmission Zeros

    摘要: A multi-order dual-band high temperature superconducting (HTS) bandpass filter (BPF) with multiple transmission zeros (TZs) is designed in this paper. The theoretical characteristics of the introduction of TZs by the electric and magnetic mixed coupling, and the cascade quadruplet (CQ) cross-coupling structures are analyzed, respectively. These two methods can be applied to the design of the multi-mode compact dual-band HTS BPF with controllable central frequency, bandwidth and TZs. For demonstration, a Y-shape tunable resonator structure which can simultaneously implement the internal electric and magnetic mixed coupling, and the external cross coupling is constructed to achieve the proposed dual-band BPF. The external quality factors required by the two passbands and the feasibility of independently adjusting the coupling strength between adjacent resonators are analyzed. Finally, a 6-order dual-band HTS BPF with the center frequencies of 1490MHz (bandwidth of 40 MHz) and 2340MHz (bandwidth of 80 MHz) is designed and fabricated on the double-sided YBCO/MgO/YBCO HTS thin films with the size of 17.2mm×14.7mm (0.20λg × 0.17λg), and there are multiple of TZs located outside the two passbands, respectively. The out-of-band rejections are greatly improved to 70dB and 80dB due to these TZs, which fully exhibits the advantages of the proposed dual-band BPF. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated ones.

  • Modeling of Quench Behavior of YBa<formula><tex>$_{2}$</tex></formula>Cu<formula><tex>$_{3}$</tex></formula>O<formula><tex>$_{7-\delta}$</tex></formula> Pancake Magnets and Distributed Temperature Sensing-based Quench Detection for Operating Temperature 30 K - 77 K

    摘要: A two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2-D/3-D) mixed electrothermal model is proposed for the simulation of quench behavior of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) pancake magnets, where a 2-D electrothermal model is proposed to simulate the YBa2 Cu3 O7 -δ (YBCO) subcoil and is coupled with the remaining parts of the YBCO magnet, which are treated as 3-D homogeneous coils. For operating temperature from 30 to 77 K, the quench behavior of four YBCO pancake coils (two Kapton-insulated coils and two TiO2 -insulated coils) are simulated. Thermal equilibrium states are found for both Kapton- and TiO2 -insulated coils. The thermal conductivity of insulating materials (Kapton, TiO2 ) significantly affects the equilibrium temperature profiles (ETPs) and the minimum quench energy (MQE), especially for relatively high operating temperature (e.g., 65–77 K). The distributed-temperature-sensing-based (DTS-based) quench detection criterion can be established on ETPs. The effect of the thickness of insulating materials on ETPs and MQEs is relatively weak, especially under relatively low operating temperature. The key parameters of ETP-based quench detection criterion, such as the reference temperature, the peak temperature, and the minimum normal zone size, are obtained for the operating temperature from 30 to 77 K.

  • A Wideband HTS Filter Using Strong Coupling Coplanar Spiral Resonator Structure

    摘要: A novel coplanar spiral resonator structure (CSRS), which has a stronger coupling strength than normal CPW structure, is introduced. This structure helps to realize the remarkable strong coupling required for low-frequency wideband ?lters. Although no grounded stubs are deployed to balance the ground plane, the slot-line mode of the ?lter is not excited. An eight-pole wideband high-temperature superconducting (HTS) ?lter, with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 50% and a center frequency of 322MHz, is developed. The ?lter is designed and fabricated on a 0.5-mm-thick LaAlO3 substrate with a core size of 41mm × 22mm. The measured minimum insertion loss is 0.05dB and the ?rst spurious peak appears at 842 MHz, which is about 2.6 times the center frequency. The measured results agree well with the simulated results.

  • Differential Dual-Band Superconducting Bandpass Filter Using Multimode Square Ring Loaded Resonators With Controllable Bandwidths

    摘要: In this paper, a fourth-order dual-band high-temperature superconducting (HTS) differential bandpass filter (BPF) with controllable midband frequencies and bandwidths is developed by using modified multimode square ring loaded resonators (SRLRs). The differential-mode (DM) bisection and common-mode (CM) bisection of the modified SRLR are analyzed by using the even- and odd-mode method twice, and the corresponding resonant properties are obtained. With a proper design of the modified SRLR, two lowest DM resonances are chosen to construct two DM passbands with high in-band CM suppression. The DM resonances can be adjusted flexibly after adding tunable patches to the square ring. Meanwhile, the internal coupling between two modified SRLRs can be controlled separately by using two geometrical parameters. Consequently, the proposed dual-band BPF can achieve independent control of both the midband frequencies and the bandwidths of its two passbands. Moreover, a wideband CM suppression is realized by a combined use of an appropriately selected feeding structure and a frequency discrepancy technique. A fourth-order dual-band differential BPF is designed with two passbands operating at 2.325 and 4.900 GHz, respectively. The filter is fabricated using HTS YBCO thin films on a MgO substrate. Good agreement between the simulated and measured frequency responses are observed, verifying well the proposed structure and design method.
