摘要: We demonstrate the fabrication of all-chalcogenide single-mode fiber couplers with a coupling extinction ratio of up to 35 dB. Couplers are made in two formats: wavelength-dependent and polarization beamsplitters with separation of the orthogonally polarized components up to 18 dB.

Correlation of Near Infrared Spectroscopy Measurements with the Surface Roughness of Wood
摘要: The surface roughness of Chinese fir and Eucalyptus wood samples were measured using the stylus profile method in order to investigate the correlation between near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and surface roughness. The results showed that the NIR spectra absorption showed differences among samples from different surface roughnesses, and the absorption decreased with the increase of the surface roughness. A strong relationship was found between the surface roughness parameters, i.e., the arithmetical mean deviation of the profile (Ra), the ten-point height of irregularities (Rz), and the maximum height of profile (Ry). Based on the NIR spectra of the Chinese fir wood samples and the mixed wood samples of the two wood species, and the correlation coefficients of these two types of wood samples in a calibration set were 0.77 to 0.83 and 0.67 to 0.74, respectively. A relatively poor correlation was found in the model based on the Eucalyptus samples; however, it was still significant. These results suggested that there was relative information about the surface roughness from the NIR spectra, which further illustrated that the surface roughness may influence the effect of models for wood properties built by NIR data.

A Thermal Infrared Face Database With Facial Landmarks and Emotion Labels
摘要: Thermal infrared imaging is an emerging modality that has gained increasing interest in recent years, mostly due to technical advances resulting in the availability of affordable microbolometer-based IR imaging sensors. However, while sensors are widely available, algorithms for thermal image processing still lack robustness and accuracy when compared to their RGB counterparts. Current methods developed for RGB data make use of machine learning algorithms that require large amounts of labeled images which are currently not available for the thermal domain. In this paper, we address the question whether providing a large number of labeled images would allow the application of current image processing methods on the example of solving challenging face analysis tasks. We introduce a high-resolution thermal facial image database with extensive manual annotations and explore how it can be used to adapt methods from the visual domain for infrared images. In addition, we extend existing approaches for infrared landmark detection with a head pose estimation for improved robustness and analyze the performance of a deep learning method on this task. An evaluation of algorithm performance shows that learning algorithms either outperform available solutions or allow completely new applications that could previously not be addressed. As a conclusion, we prove that investing the effort into acquiring appropriate training data and adapting competitive algorithms is not only a viable approach in analysing thermal infrared images but can also allow outperforming specific task-designed solutions. Particle filter-based modulation domain infrared targets tracking
摘要: Faced with problems of low contrast, poor SNR, and relatively complicated tracking environment, stable infrared target tracking is worth researching for its many potential applications. In this paper, instead of traditional target tracking in the pixel domain, we propose a sampling importance resampling (SIR) particle filter method with indirect velocity measurements to track infrared targets in the modulation domain. The dominant amplitude modulation (AM) features used for tracking is extracted by decomposing the input image using an 18-channel Gabor filter bank followed by the application of the dominant component analysis approach. The dominant AM modulation features provide a significant partial texture characteristic of the target which can be separated from background with better discrimination. To take advantage of observed kinematics, we utilize the augmented state vector with indirect velocity information via combining the measurements of velocity in adjacent frames to the SIR particle filter framework, which weakens weights of particles with bad velocity estimates but still having association with the cluttered background or other moving objects. A dynamic template update strategy is also provided to prevent the tracker from appearance model drift. Experiments indicate that the proposed method is effective for raising the tracking accuracy compared with other tracking methods.

EXPRESS: Mid-Infrared Polarization Spectroscopy Measurements of Species Concentrations and Temperature in a Low-Pressure Flame
摘要: We demonstrate quantitative measurements of methane (CH4) mole fractions in a low pressure fuel-rich premixed dimethyl ether/oxygen/argon flat flame (Φ =1.87, 37 mbar) using mid-infrared polarization spectroscopy (IRPS). Nonintrusive in situ detection of CH4, acetylene (C2H2), and ethane (C2H6) in the flame was realized by probing the fundamental asymmetric C–H stretching vibration bands in the respective molecules in the spectral range 2970–3340 cm–1. The flame was stabilized on a McKenna-type porous plug burner hosted in a low pressure chamber. The temperature at different heights above the burner (HAB) was measured from the line ratio of temperature sensitive H2O spectral lines recorded using IRPS. Quantitative measurements of CH4 mole fractions at different HAB in the flame were realized by a calibration measurement in a low pressure gas flow of N2 with a small admixture of known amount of CH4. A comprehensive study of the collision effects on the IRPS signal was performed in order to quantify the flame measurement. The concentration and temperature measurements were found to agree reasonably well with simulations using Chemkin. These measurements prove the potential of IRPS as a sensitive, nonintrusive, in situ technique in low pressure flames.

The Efficacy of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Monitoring in Carotid Endarterectomy: A Prospective, Single-Center, Observational Study
摘要: There has been no gold standard for intraoperative monitoring in carotid endarterectomy (CEA) till now. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the value of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) monitoring in CEA and explore the thresholds for intraoperative cerebral hypoperfusion. Eighty-four consecutive patients who underwent CEA surgery in Xuan Wu Hospital of Capital Medical University from August 2015 to June 2016 were enrolled in this study. All patients were intraoperatively monitored by transcranial Doppler ultrasonography (TCD) and NIRS. Regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) monitored by NIRS and blood flow velocity of the middle cerebral artery (V-MCA) monitored by TCD were continuously recorded. Correlation analysis was conducted for NIRS and TCD monitoring values. Intraoperative shunting was performed in five patients according to the TCD monitoring results and surgeon preference. During clamping of the carotid artery, the Pearson correlation index between rSO2 and V-MCA was 0.581 (P<0.001). A cut-off of 12.3% decrease of rSO2 was identified as the optimal threshold for intraoperative hypoperfusion indicated by TCD monitoring, when the sensitivity and specificity were 74.6% and 91.7%, respectively, with a 0.609 Kappa value. Physical examination immediately after operation showed no ischemic injury occurred, and no death and stroke occurred during the postoperative hospitalization. Our study demonstrated that NIRS could serve as a favorable monitoring tool during CEA. A 12.3% decrease of rSO2 could be adopted as a reliable threshold for intraoperative cerebral hypoperfusion.

摘要: To explore the main influence factors in the infrared countermeasure and reveal the effects of the combinations of the influence factors, this study provides a heuristic idea by adopting the association rule mining theory. First of all, an engagement model including the target model, flare model and missile model is constructed to show different attack situations and countermeasure modes. Meanwhile, a counter-countermeasure algorithm denoted overlap effect is proposed as a recognition approach for distinguishing the true target from the target-flare mixed signal. Then, in view of the miss distance, we separate the association rules into outer and inner levels for mining the relations between the miss distance and the countermeasure factors. Afterwards, FP-growth algorithm is introduced to unearth the association rules by using the off-line data. Finally, we thoroughly investigate the association rules and disclose the main influence factors through simulation examples.

Comparison and Identification for Rhizomes and Leaves of Paris yunnanensis Based on Fourier Transform Mid-Infrared Spectroscopy Combined with Chemometrics
摘要: Paris polyphylla, as a traditional herb with long history, has been widely used to treat diseases in multiple nationalities of China. Nevertheless, the quality of P. yunnanensis fluctuates among from different geographical origins, so that a fast and accurate classification method was necessary for establishment. In our study, the geographical origin identification of 462 P. yunnanensis rhizome and leaf samples from Kunming, Yuxi, Chuxiong, Dali, Lijiang, and Honghe were analyzed by Fourier transform mid infrared (FT-MIR) spectra, combined with partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), random forest (RF), and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) methods. The obvious cluster tendency of rhizomes and leaves FT-MIR spectra was displayed by principal component analysis (PCA). The distribution of the variable importance for the projection (VIP) was more uniform than the important variables obtained by RF, while PLS-DA models obtained higher classification abilities. Hence, a PLS-DA model was more suitably used to classify the different geographical origins of P. yunnanensis than the RF model. Additionally, the clustering results of different geographical origins obtained by HCA dendrograms also proved the chemical information difference between rhizomes and leaves. The identification performances of PLS-DA and the RF models of leaves FT-MIR matrixes were better than those of rhizomes datasets. In addition, the model classification abilities of combination datasets were higher than the individual matrixes of rhizomes and leaves spectra. Our study provides a reference to the rational utilization of resources, as well as a fast and accurate identification research for P. yunnanensis samples.

Forward projection matrix derivation through Monte-Carlo ray-tracing of KSTAR infra-red imaging video bolometer (IRVB)
摘要: The infrared imaging video bolometer (IRVB) as a foil bolometry technique can be an alternative solution to the conventional resistive bolometer due to its electro-magnetic immunity and 2D plasma profiles. The plasma profile of the IRVB cannot be directly derived from the foil images due to the difference between the foil pixel number and the plasma pixel number and the line integrated nature of the incident rays on the foil. So, it needs tomography such as the Phillips-Thikhonov algorithm. The projection matrix constructing the foil image from the plasma very directly influences the tomography. So, the projection matrix needs to be constructed precisely. For the technique calculating the precise projection matrix, a forward Monte-Carlo ray-tracing method is proposed here, and this technique can provide the detailed descriptions of the foil image. And it can give enhanced performance in the reconstructions of the plasmas with spatially localized power.
