  • The Use of Magnetic Orientation as a Pinning Modality for Investigation of Photon-Magnon Interactions in Magnetic Nanoparticle Systems

    摘要: In this work, an experimental setup to study the dependence of a visible-light transmission through a magnetic granular film on the magnetic field direction was presented. The results measured the transmission (T) of the visible light, with the wavelengths (λ) were in the range from 560 to 695 nm, by the magnetic nanogranular films Cox-(Al2O3)100-x system, with Co compositions are x = 10 ÷ 45 at.%, as a function of the magnetic field direction were reported. These investigations were carried out under an external magnetic field of H = 400 Oe, which directs to the normal of the sample surface by an angle varied in the range of θ = 0° ÷ 45°, to magnetize the magnetization direction of all the Co particles following this direction. Consequently, the angle θ between the magnetization direction with the incident-light direction, which sets as the optical axis of the system and always keeps fixedly to the normal of the sample surface, is established. The experimental results showed the different dependencies of T on the angle θ, the magnetic field H, the Co composition x, and the wavelength λ. These dependencies attributed to a behavior that relates to so-called photon-magnon interaction.

  • Design and characterization of small detection modules based on scintillators and WLS bars with SiPM readout for a cosmic ray mini-array

    摘要: This paper describes the design and characterization tests of detection modules for a low-cost, easily reconfigurable mini-array for cosmic rays. The basic layout of each individual module is based on a 400 cm2 scintillator tile, optically coupled to a Wavelength Shifter (WLS) bar and a Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) for light collection and readout. Low cost solutions, based on the Arduino MEGA board, have been adopted for electronics, triggering and data acquisition, in view of the operation of this facility. The first detection modules, equipped with 4×4 mm2 SiPMs were fully built and characterized. Additional tests were also carried out with photosensors having different sensitive area and technology.

  • Shedding light on the electronic structure of [Ru(η6-C16H16)(NH3)3]2+ complex: a computational insight

    摘要: Ruthenophanes have been recognized as potential candidates to the design of electrically conducting polymers, particularly due to their electrochemical, structural, and spectroscopic properties. The comprehension and rationalization of the metal–ligand interaction is fundamental to pave the way for future applications as the design of new conducting materials. For that reason, this investigation sheds light on the electronic details behind the cation–π interactions present in ruthenophanes by using [Ru(η6-C16H16)(NH3)3]2+ as a model. Zeroth-order symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT0) shows the interaction Ru(II)–[2.2]paracyclophane with a predominant covalent character. However, the hapticity analysis of [2.2]paracyclophane shows only two predominantly covalent Ru–C bonds, as highlighted by the total energy density, H(r), in the bond critical point (BCP) obtained from quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) method, and by second-order stabilization energy, (cid:4)E(2), related to the processes: π C–C → dσ or dπ Ru, achieved in the natural bond orbital (NBO) method. The other two Ru–C chemical bonds show a largely electrostatic character, as can be visualized from the delocalization index, DI, between the electron basins in the electron localization function (ELF) method. Remarkably, the interacting quantum atoms (IQA) method showed practically the same value of the total interaction energy, EAB int , between Ru and these C atoms and, then, corroborates the hapticity four of the ligand: [2.2]paracyclophane. Source function distribution presents a correlation with the electronic interactions between different groups in [Ru(η6-C16H16)(NH3)3]2+.

    摘要: Humans process high volumes of visual information to perform everyday tasks. In a reaching task, the brain estimates the distance and position of the object of interest, to reach for it. Having a grasp intention in mind, human eye-movements produce specific relevant patterns. Our Gaze-Contingent Intention Decoding Engine uses eye-movement data and gaze-point position to indicate the hidden intention. We detect the object of interest using deep convolution neural networks and estimate its position in a physical space using 3D gaze vectors. Then we trigger the possible actions from an action grammar database to perform an assistive movement of the robotic arm, improving action performance in physically disabled people. This document is a short report to accompany the Gaze-contingent Intention Decoding Engine demonstrator, providing details of the setup used and results obtained.

  • A photo-switchable supramolecular hyperbranched polymer with aggregation-induced emission based on host-guest interaction

    摘要: In this work, we report a simple strategy by mixing a coumarin appended tetraphenylethylene derivative (TPEC) and γ-cydodextrin(γ-CD) in aqueous solution, based on the host-guest interaction between TPEC and γ-CD to construct a dual-modality supramolecular hyperbranched polymer. The host-guest interaction between γ-CD and TPEC efficiently restricted the intramolecular rotation and the non-radiative relaxation channel, minimizing energy loss, thereby resulting in the strong emission of TPEC in dilute solution. Moreover, we achieved the conversion between non-covalent supramolecular polymers and its corresponding covalent supramolecular hyperbranched polymers under the irradiation of UV light, which can be reversibly controlled through the irradiation at the wavelengths of 254 nm and 365 nm. Furthermore, both non-covalent supramolecular hyperbranched polymers and covalent supramolecular hyperbranched polymers can self-assemble into spherical structures. This methodology provides a new idea for exploring a new type of supramolecular hyperbranched polymers with aggregation-induced emission.

  • A multi-color and white-light emissive cucurbituril/terpyridine/lanthanide supramolecular nanofiber

    摘要: Multi-color and white light luminescence materials based on supramolecular assemblies are attractive because of their potential applications in advanced light-emitting material. Herein, a cucurbit[8]uril-enhanced lanthanide luminescent supramolecular assembly was constructed in a facile but efficient way using terpyridine imidozalium cations, cucurbit[8]urils and rare earth ions such as Tb3+ and Eu3+. Significantly, the resultant fibrous supramolecular assembly, with an average width of 15 nm, could emit remarkable lanthanide luminescence, which was ten times higher than the corresponding terpyridine/Ln3+ without cucurbit[8]uril. And the solid state luminescence of supramolecular assembly could be smartly and easily turned among blue, green, red and white by adjusting the molar ratios between Tb3+ and Eu3+. The enhanced white-light emission by supramolecular strategy may provide a new approach for smart and tunable solid luminescent materials.

  • Exploring the optical beam shifts in monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides using Gaussian beams

    摘要: We have extensively studied Goos-H?nchen (GH) and Imbert-Fedorov (IF) shifts for reflection of a fundamental Gaussian beam using transfer matrix method. By considering a dielectric slab coated with monolayer of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC), we theoretically investigate the potential role of four different TMDC monolayers (WS2, WSe2, MoS2, and MoSe2) on the spatial and angular GH and IF shifts for reflection of the light beam that has not been explored previously. We find the nature of GH and IF shifts to be explicitly dependent on the mode of polarization of light beam. In case of partial reflection of light, both GH and IF shifts acquire moderate magnitude. In contrary, giant negative spatial GH shifts are examined for total internal reflection. Our analysis revealed that the typical characteristics of GH and IF shifts are significantly affected by the complex surface conductivity of TMDC monolayers and consequently the shifts are found to differ for different TMDC monolayers. We also present a comparison of the beam shifts for the monolayer TMDC-coated surfaces with the corresponding bulk TMDCs. Finally, we address the most significant question of how the GH and IF shifts depend upon the wavelengths of incident light, in particular, establishing the role of optical conductivity in beam shifts.

  • Developing cysteamine-modified SERS substrate for detection of acidic pigment with weak surface affinity

    摘要: In this paper, we developed cysteamine-modified surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate for detecting detect trace amount of acidic pigment that shows weak affinity with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). To realize sensitive and reproducible detection of pigment with weak affinity, the SERS substrate was prepared by attaching cysteamine (CA) to the Au NPs, the acidic pigment molecule could rapidly reached to the surface of Au NPs because of the formation of multi-hydrogen-bond and electrostatic interaction between the pigment and CA molecule. The proposed method allowed us to detect five kinds of acidic pigment with a limit of 1.0 ppm, which is below the strictest safety limit. Compared with the previous methods, the advantages of the present substrate were its simple substrate preparation, high reproducibility and good universality. Furthermore, the reliable and enough accurate results had been obtained by using of the proposed substrates in the assay of trace pigment in real samples.

  • Background-Foreground Interaction for Moving Object Detection in Dynamic Scenes

    摘要: Both background subtraction and foreground extraction are the typical methods used to detect moving objects in video sequences. In order to flexibly represent the long-term state and the short-term changes in a scene, a new weighted Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) is proposed to build the long-term background (LTB) and short-term foreground (STF) models, respectively. A novel mechanism is proposed to support the interaction between the LTB and STF models. The interaction includes the weight transmission and the fusion between the LTB and STF models. In the weight transmission process between the LTB and STF models, the sample weight of one model (either the background model or the foreground model) in the current time step is updated under the guidance of the decision of the other model in the previous time step. In the background-foreground fusion stage, a unified Bayesian framework is proposed to detect objects and the detection result in any time step is given by the logarithm of the posterior ratio between the background and foreground models. This interactive approach proposed in this paper improves the robustness of moving object detection, preventing deadlocks and degeneration in the models. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms previous ones.

  • Lateral interfaces of transition metal dichalcogenides: A stable tunable one-dimensional physics platform

    摘要: We study in-plane lateral heterostructures of commensurate transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as MoS2-WS2 and MoSe2-WSe2, and find interfacial and edge states that are highly localized to these regions of the heterostructure. These are one-dimensional (1D) in nature, lying within the band gap of the bulk structure and exhibiting complex orbital and spin structure. We describe such heteroribbons with a three-orbital tight-binding model that uses first principles and experimental parameters as input, allowing us to model realistic systems. Analytical modeling for the 1D interfacial bands results in long-range hoppings due to the hybridization along the interface, with strong spin-orbit couplings. We further explore the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida indirect interaction between magnetic impurities located at the interface. The unusual features of the interface states result in effective long-range exchange noncollinear interactions between impurities. These results suggest that transition-metal dichalcogenide interfaces could serve as stable, tunable 1D platform with unique properties for possible use in exploring Majorana fermions, plasma excitations, and spintronics applications.
