  • Lithium-Doping Effects in Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Thin-Film and Photovoltaic Properties

    摘要: The beneficial effects of heavy alkali-metals such as K, Rb, and Cs in enhancing Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) photovoltaic efficiencies are widely known, though the detailed mechanism is still open for discussion. In the present work, the effects of the lightest alkali-metal, Li, on CIGS thin-film and device properties are focused upon and compared to the effects of heavy alkali-metals. To date, the beneficial effects of elemental Li on Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) photovoltaic devices in enhancing efficiencies have been reported in the literature. On the other hand, it is shown in the present work that the beneficial effects of Li on CIGS are not so significant. In contrast to the effects of Na or Rb in enhancing CIGS (112) growth orientation, Li was revealed not to affect CIGS growth orientation. The most distinctive feature observed between Li and other alkali-metals was the elemental depth profile in CIGS films. Namely, Na and heavier alkali-metals show a concentration peak near the surface region (relatively Cu-poor region) of CIGS films, whereas elemental Li showed no such trend, suggesting that Li has no significant effect on CIGS surface modification. Nonetheless, Li was found to have some effect in enhancing the PL peak intensity and photovoltaic performance of CIGS, though the effect is relatively small in comparison to that obtained with other alkali-metals.

  • Integrated electro-optic modulators in x-cut lithium niobate thin film

    摘要: Integrated optics is poised to revolutionize several data communication applications. The development of high performance electro-optic modulators is essential for the technology to be viable. In this paper, single-mode electro-optic modulators in x-cut lithium niobate thin film are designed, simulated, and analyzed. The single-mode conditions of lithium niobate ridge waveguides are analyzed in detail. The design parameters of Y-branch and separation distances between electrodes and ridge waveguides are optimized. The half-wave voltage of the electro-optic modulator with device lengths of 10 mm is determined. The half-wave voltage-length product is about 2.2 V·cm, indicating the efficient electric-optical modulation. This study is helpful for understand of electro-optic modulator structures in lithium niobate thin film, as well as for the fabrication of high-performance and multifunctional electro-optic modulation devices.

  • LiNbO3 integrated system for opto-microfluidic sensing

    摘要: In this work, we realized and tested an integrated opto-microfluidics platform entirely made on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) crystals, able to detect the single droplet passage and estimate its size without the need of any imaging processing. It is based on the coupling of a self-aligned integrated optical stage, made of an array of optical waveguides, to a microfluidic circuit such as a T-junction or Cross-junction engraved in the same substrate. The platform presented high quality performances in terms of optical triggering, reproducibility and stability in time, allowing in real-time data analysis. The comparison with standard approaches using microscopes and fast camera imagining acquisition and relative post-processing, showed an increased capability better than 50%. The demonstrated feasibility of integration of these two stages will allow the realization of a Lab-On-a-Chip on a monolithic substrate of lithium niobate, exploiting its multiple applications for manipulation of droplets.

  • Mechanistic Origin of the High Performance of Yolk@Shell Bi2S3@N-Doped Carbon Nanowire Electrodes

    摘要: High-performance lithium-ion batteries are commonly built with the heterogeneous composite electrodes that combine multiple active components for serving various electrochemical and structural functions. Engineering these heterogeneous composite electrodes toward drastically improved battery performance is hinged on a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of multiple active components and their synergy or tradeoff effects. Herein, we report a rational design, fabrication, and understanding of yolk@shell Bi2S3@N-doped mesoporous carbon (C) composite anode, consisting of a Bi2S3 nanowire (NW) core within a hollow space surrounded by a thin shell of N-doped mesoporous C. This composite anode exhibits desirable rate performance and long cycle stability (700 cycles, 501 mAhg-1 at 1.0 Ag-1, 85% capacity retention). By in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction, and NMR experiments and computational modeling, we elucidate the dominant mechanisms of the phase transformation, structural evolution, and lithiation kinetics of the Bi2S3@C NW anode. Our combined in-situ TEM experiments and finite-element simulations reveal that the hollow space between the Bi2S3-NW core and carbon shell can effectively accommodate the lithiation-induced expansion of Bi2S3-NWs without cracking C shells. This work demonstrates an effective strategy of engineering the yolk@shell-architectured anodes and also sheds light onto harnessing the complex multistep reactions in metal sulfides to enable high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

  • Origin of the Overpotential for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction on a Well-defined Graphene Electrode Probed by in situ Sum Frequency Generation Vibrational Spectroscopy

    摘要: To develop an efficient material for the cathode of the lithium-oxygen (Li-O2) secondary battery, the oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER) on a well-defined graphene monolayer have been investigated in a typical organic solvent, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The adsorption and desorption behaviors of the solvents on the graphene electrode surface were evaluated by an intrinsically surface-selective vibrational spectroscopy of sum frequency generation (SFG) during the ORR and OER. After the initial ORR depositing lithium peroxide (Li2O2) on the graphene electrode surface in a LiClO4/DMSO solution, the SFG spectroscopy revealed that the subsequent OER oxidizing the Li2O2 preferentially proceeds at the interface between the Li2O2 and graphene rather than that between the Li2O2 and bulk solution. Therefore, the OER tends to reduce the electric conductivity between the Li2O2 and graphene by decreasing their contact area before a large part of the deposited Li2O2 was oxidized, which elucidates the origin of the high overpotential for the OER.

  • Li 1<i>s</i> core exciton in LiH studied by X-ray Raman scattering spectroscopy

    摘要: The Li 1s core excitation spectra in LiH was studied by means of X-ray Raman scattering (XRS) spectroscopy in a wide range of momentum transfers q. The analysis of the near-edge region of the measured spectra in combination with q-dependent ab initio calculations of XRS spectra based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) reveals that the prominent peak at the excitation onset arises from two main contributions, namely a pre-edge peak associated to a p-type core exciton and strong transitions to empty states near the bottom of the conduction band, which is in contrast to previous experimental studies that attributed that feature to a single excitonic peak. The p-like angular symmetry of the core exciton is supported by BSE calculations of the relative contributions to the XRS spectra from monopole and dipole transitions and by the observed decrease of its normalised intensity for increasing momentum transfers. Higher energy spectral features in the measured XRS spectra are well reproduced by BSE, as well as by real-space multiple-scattering calculations.

  • Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) Decorated Lithium Doped Stannous Oxide Nanocomposites as Highly Flexible UVA Shieldants

    摘要: Herein, we report the successful fabrication of a series of mechanically flexible poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposite films with varying amounts of lithium doped stannous oxide (Li0.4Sn0.8O) nanofillers (i.e., 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 wt %) by mechanical shearing followed by film casting. The structural characterizations (FTIR) ascertain the success of lithium doped stannous oxide integrations with PVA matrix. While, electronic spectral studies sheds light on the changes in electronic band structure leading to a gradual decrease in optical band gaps associated electronic transition from valence band to conduction band. The UV-visible transmittance study substantiates the ability of nano fabricated polymeric films to efficiently shield UV radiations, in particular UVA radiations and thereby act as highly flexible and visible transparent UVA protective coatings.

  • Mid-Infrared Electro-Optical Modulation Using Monolithically Integrated Titanium Dioxide on Lithium Niobate Optical Waveguides

    摘要: tunable photonic circuits were demonstrated in the mid-infrared (mid-iR) regime using integrated tio2-on-Linbo3 (toL) waveguides. the upper waveguide ridge was made by a sputtered tio2 thin film with broad transparency at λ = 0.4–8 μm and an optimized refractive index n = 2.39. The waveguide substrate is a z-cut single crystalline Linbo3 (LN) wafer that has strong Pockels effect, thus enabling the tunability of the device through electro-optical (e-o) modulation. A sharp waveguide mode was obtained at λ = 2.5 μm without scattering or mode distortion found. The measured E-O coefficient γeff was 5.9 pm/V approaching γ31 of 8.6 pm/V of LN. The ToL waveguide showed a hybrid mode profile where its optical field can be modified by adjusting the TiO2 ridge height. our monolithically integrated ToL modulator is an efficient and small footprint optical switch critical for the development of reconfigurable photonic chips.

  • High voltage vacuum-processed perovskite solar cells with organic semiconducting interlayers

    摘要: In perovskite solar cells, the choice of appropriate transport layers and electrodes is of great importance to guarantee efficient charge transport and collection, minimizing recombination losses. The possibility to sequentially process multiple layers by vacuum methods offers a tool to explore the effects of different materials and their combinations on the performance of optoelectronic devices. In this work, the effect of introducing interlayers and altering the electrode work function has been evaluated in fully vacuum-deposited perovskite solar cells. We compared the performance of solar cells employing common electron buffer layers such as bathocuproine (BCP), with other injection materials used in organic light-emitting diodes, such as lithium quinolate (Liq), as well as their combination. Additionally, high voltage solar cells were obtained using low work function metal electrodes, although with compromised stability. Solar cells with enhanced photovoltage and stability under continuous operation were obtained using BCP and BCP/Liq interlayers, resulting in an efficiency of approximately 19%, which is remarkable for simple methylammonium lead iodide absorbers.
