    摘要: A passively mode-locked fiber laser using femtosecond inscribed plane-by-plane 45°-tilted fiber grating is experimentally demonstrated. The generated solitons center at 1561.8 nm with bandwidth reaching 7.14 nm and pulse width of 1.1 ps.

    摘要: InP/GaInP quantum dot laser structures exhibiting broad optical gain spectra suitable for mode-locking have been demonstrated. Two-section narrow ridge passive mode-locked lasers were fabricated from this material. Mode-locking conditions have been investigated for devices with different cavity lengths, with maximum frequency of 15.21 GHz.

  • Ternary chalcogenide Ta2NiS5 nanosheets for broadband pulse generation in ultrafast fiber lasers

    摘要: In this article, a high-quality saturable absorber (SA) based on a two-dimensional ternary chalcogenide Ta2NiS5 nanosheet has been successfully fabricated and used in 1- and 1.5-μm spectral regions to generate ultrafast laser pulses. The Ta2NiS5-based SA is fabricated by mechanical exfoliation and sandwiched between two fiber ferrules to form a fiber-compatible SA. On the basis of the twin-detector technique, nonlinear optical absorption of the Ta2NiS5-SA is characterized by 64.7% and 11.95% modulation depths with 1.3 and 0.72 MW/cm2 saturation intensities at 1028 and 1570 nm, respectively. When Ta2NiS5-SA is integrated into Yb- and Er-doped fiber laser cavities, stable self-starting Q-switched pulses are observed. Furthermore, by adjusting the cavity structure and optimizing dispersion in the cavity, we obtain hybrid mode-locking and mode-locking fiber laser operation at 1029 and 1569 nm, respectively. These results validate the performance of Ta2NiS5 as a broadband SA for the generation of ultrafast laser pulses, offering new opportunities of ternary transition-metal dichalcogenide alloys in future photonic devices.

  • Envelope, group and phase velocities in a nested frequency comb

    摘要: Fabry–Pérot etalons have been traditionally used in a laser cavity to tune the optical frequency. In this work we present the generation of interwoven frequency combs with insertion of an intracavity Fabry–Pérot in a mode-locked laser. A high frequency comb is generated by insertion of an uncoated (low ?nesse) Fabry–Pérot inside the laser cavity. The intracavity Fabry–Pérot acquires a high ?nesse from the laser cavity and the velocity of the pulses in the Fabry–Pérot is affected by the laser cavity length, gain and losses, with the dielectric group velocity dk/dΩ playing only a minor role. The output characteristics are explained by the condition that the radiation is simultaneously resonant with the etalon and the laser cavity.

  • Microring resonator-based photonic system for terahertz signal generation

    摘要: We propose a photonic system based on add–drop microring resonator and mode-locked laser for terahertz (THz) signal generation. A mode-locked laser acts as an input source to the microring resonator. The transfer characteristics of the microring resonator generate Lorentzian shaped pulses at the output ports of the microring resonator. These series of pulses obtained are then investigated in two approaches; in the ?rst approach, the output of the microring resonator is given to a photodetector which generates 33 THz pulses separated by a spacing of 1 THz with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 0.15 THz. In the second approach, the output of the microring resonator is given to an optical ?lter to extract a particular frequency component. In this case, a single THz carrier with a FWHM of 0.2618 THz is obtained. The THz frequency components generated by the proposed photonic system can act as carriers for communication between the indoor user and the base station of a pico/femto cell in a 5G environment.
