Wavelength and pump-power dependent nonlinear refraction and absorption in a semiconductor disk laser
摘要: We characterize both nonlinear refraction and absorption in a vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL) as a function of pump irradiance over the whole range of lasing wavelengths. We observe an approximately linear decrease in magnitude for both nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption with optical pumping when the thermally induced shift of the lasing wavelength is considered. Our results are of particular significance for understanding self-modelocking of VECSELs which might be driven by nonlinear lensing.

摘要: The generation of high-power harmonic noise-like square pulses (NLSPs) is realized at 1.61 μm in an Er:Yb co-doped all-fiber mode-locked laser for the first time. By intra-cavity changing pump power and adjusting polarization state, the NLSP can operate in a fundamental or a high-order harmonic mode-locking (HML) state. The maximum average output power is about 1.26 W. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a watt-level harmonic NLSP.

摘要: In this paper, we proposed an all-optical sampling system. The ring-shaped mode-locked laser with quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier (QD-SOA) is the sampling pulse source of the system. The sampling module consists of a Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror (NOLM) utilizing QD-SOA as the nonlinear element. Simulation results show that the high-frequency narrow Gaussian pulse of 40 GHz can optically sample the 4 GHz dual-frequency Gaussian pulse signal. The system has the advantages of fast sampling speed and high sampling accuracy.

摘要: In recent years, as optical modulator materials, two-dimensional (2D) materials attracted much attention for mode-locking pulse generating. However, some 2D materials like graphene have no band gap, leading to weak light absorption, while other 2D materials such as black phosphorus have poor stability, which may affect the continuity of the laser. As a kind of new 2D ternary layered material, NiPS3 can exhibit more novel electrical, optical and magnetic properties compared with those unary and binary 2D layered materials because of higher chemical diversity and structural complexity. In this work, we demonstrated proposed dual-wavelength mode-locked erbium-doped all-fiber laser (EDFL) by utilizing the few-layer NiPS3 as the saturable absorber (SA). The total length of the laser cavity was about 40 m with a 20m-long single mode fiber integrated. The SA was integrated into the EDFL by sandwiching it between two fiber ferrules. In stable dual-wavelength mode-locked operation, the pulse was generated at 1563.8 nm and 1564.5 nm with a repetition rate of 5.117 MHz with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 51.70 dB. Meanwhile, the highest peak power of 7.46 nJ corresponded to the maximum output power of 1.54 mW. Our experiments validated that the few-layer NiPS3 can be utilized as a SA to generate stable all-fiber pulsed laser the fabrication of NiPS3 in this work would allow the generation of mode-locked pulse, which expands two-dimensional (2D) materials application in ultrafast pulse generation.

摘要: An octave-band voltage-controlled oscillator is phase-locked on the envelope of the pulse train from a mode-locked laser. The locking scheme employs a balanced Mach-Zehnder modulator with two photodiodes as a phase detector. The phase.locked loop has a loop bandwidth of approximately 1 MHz and an in-band phase noise of approximately -135 dBc/Hz at all frequencies. The integrated jitter from 1 kHz to 100 MHz is 21 fs, 18.3 fs and 13.8 fs at 5.016 GHz, 7.6 GHz and 10.032 GHz carrier frequencies, respectively. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the best jitter performance reported for a PLL with MZM-based phase detection and the ?rst reported PLL of this type featuring an octave-band frequency range.

摘要: We report on a robust mode-locked femtosecond fiber laser based on a nonlinear optical mirror with all polarization-maintaining fibers. Stable and self-starting operation is obtained by exploiting an integrated nonreciprocal device biases π/2 phase shift. In the single-pulse region, the laser directly generates output power of 3.15 mW at repetition rate of 87.7 MHz, corresponding to the pulse energy of 37 pJ. The center wavelength is 1585 nm with the spectral bandwidth of 25 nm at the maximum output power. We also evaluate the relative intensity noise of the mode-locking laser.

L-band Wavelength-Switchable Dissipative Soliton Resonance Er-doped Fiber Laser
摘要: The experiment reports a kind of L-band dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) nanosecond Er-doped fiber laser. The passive mode-locked L-band DSR pulse is achieved in a figure-eight structure by using the nonlinear-amplifying-loop-mirror (NALM). The repetition rate of pulse is 468 kHz. At the maximum pump power of 398 mW, the output power is 25 mW with a pulse energy of 45 nJ. By adjustment of polarization state in cavity, the output pulse can be switched among 4 different DSR states with central wavelength of 1572, 1585, 1590 and 1605 nm discretely, presenting different peak power and pulse width. We can determine that the adjustment of polarization state changes the loss spectra of cavity and the 4 DSR states operate in different balance points. The tunable DSR pulse duration is from 120 to 150 ns by increasing the central wavelength.

H-shaped pulse generation with tunable leading edge from a Tm-doped mode-locked fiber laser
摘要: A novel h-shaped pulse train with a tunable leading-edge (resembling a h-shaped pulse merging with a weak square pulse) is experimentally generated in a Tm-doped mode-locked fiber laser (MLFL) incorporating a 100 m highly nonlinear fiber. Through carefully adjusting the pump power and cavity polarization states, the leading-edge duration of the obtained h-shaped pulse can be widely tuned from zero (corresponding to the typical conventional h-shaped pulse train) to 567.8 ns (equivalent to the cavity roundtrip time). Our results can further facilitate understanding the intrinsic mechanism and characteristics of novel h-shaped pulse dynamics in MLFLs.
