  • High-energy dissipative soliton resonance and rectangular noise-like pulse in a figure-9 Tm fiber laser

    摘要: We experimentally demonstrate a direct generation of high-energy dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) and rectangular noise-like pulse (NLP) in a figure-9 thulium-holmium-doped mode-locked fiber laser. The pulse duration and average output power of the DSR can be tuned from 33.5 ns to 144.6 ns, and from 100.25 mW to 677.5 mW, respectively. The maximum of pulse energy is 713.2 nJ without wave breaking at pump power of 6.7 W, which is the highest energy of DSR in the region of 2 μm, to the best of our knowledge. In addition, the rectangular NLP with 452 nJ pulse bunch energy is also obtained.

  • Nonlinear multimodal interference for ytterbium-doped all-fiber mode-locking noise-like pulse generation

    摘要: This work demonstrates the generation of the noise-like pulse (NLP) in an all-normal-dispersion passively mode-locked ytterbium-doped ring laser cavity with nonlinear multimodal interference as an equivalent all-fiber saturable absorber, for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Depending on the appropriate optimization of the intra-cavity birefringence and reasonable control of the curving curvature of the multimode fiber, self-started NLP operation can be built and maintained within a wide pump range. Additionally, the effect of the multimode fiber length on the NLP mode-locking performance and the generation of the high power NLP have also been experimentally studied.

  • Explosion induced rogue waves and chaotic multi-pulsing in a passively mode-locked all-normal dispersion fiber laser

    摘要: In this work, an experimental study of non-stationary pulse dynamics consisting of explosion events and chaotic multi-pulsing from an all-normal dispersion Yb-fiber laser operating in noise-like pulse (NLP) state have been reported. During explosion in NLP state, which resembled soliton explosion, dispersive Fourier transform measurements revealed large, intermittent amplitude fluctuations in the real-time spectrum indicative of rogue waves. The fluctuations either appeared randomly at the lasing wavelength within the Yb-gain spectra or at the frequency downshifted Raman Stokes wavelength. It was also observed that such fluctuation at the Raman wavelength could even exceed the amplitude of the spectral components at the main lasing wavelength. With suitable adjustments, the laser operation could be switched to chaotic multi-pulsing state where the acquisition of a large number of consecutive roundtrips revealed inter-pulse motion with unique trajectories occurring over millisecond time scales.

    摘要: The generation of high-power harmonic noise-like square pulses (NLSPs) is realized at 1.61 μm in an Er:Yb co-doped all-fiber mode-locked laser for the first time. By intra-cavity changing pump power and adjusting polarization state, the NLSP can operate in a fundamental or a high-order harmonic mode-locking (HML) state. The maximum average output power is about 1.26 W. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a watt-level harmonic NLSP.

  • Numerical study of complex dynamics and extreme events within noise-like pulses from an erbium figure-eight laser

    摘要: Some complex dissipative dynamics associated with the noise-like pulse (NLP) regime of a passively mode-locked erbium-doped ?ber laser are studied numerically. By means of a convenient 3D mapping of the spatio-temporal pulse evolution, for properly chosen dispersion parameters, several puzzling dissipative dynamics of NLPs are identi?ed, including the expelling of sub-packets that move away from the main bunch, the sudden extinction of isolated sub-pulses, the collision between di?erent internal fragments travelling at di?erent speeds, the rising of sub-pulses, the formation of complex trajectories by substructures that ?rst move away and then return to the main bunch, and so on. In addition, the emergence of optical rogue waves (ORWs) within NLPs is also demonstrated numerically; to help understand these behaviors evidenced in the time domain, spectral analyzes were also performed that show, among other things, that the spectrum of a NLP is notoriously distorted when it hosts an ORW phenomenon. These numerical results are consistent with previously published experimental results.

    摘要: In addition to some regular pulses such as conventional soliton (CS) and dissipative soliton (DS), passively mode-locked fiber lasers can also generate another type of distinctive pulse, i.e. the so-called noise-like pulse (NLP) [1]. Generally speaking, in NLP fiber lasers, NLP can be switched from CS or DS by increasing the pump power or adjusting the polarization controller (PC) [2]. However, as far as we know, multiple switchable generation between NLP and DS or CS have never been reported. We here show the multiple switchable phenomenon between NLP and DS from an Er-doped fiber laser (EDFL) based on nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) for the first time. This kind of fiber laser not only facilitates the deep understanding of the properties and mechanisms of NLP but also paves a new way for the design of multi-functional light source.
