  • Robust 3IMPL Control Algorithm For Power Management of SyRG/PV/BES Based Distributed Islanded Microgrid

    摘要: In an islanded AC microgrid, a comprehensive algorithm of three phase, improved magnitude, phase locked loop (3IMPL) control algorithm is developed to provide DC off set removal, steady state error removal and fast dynamic response. In addition, the control of the voltage source converter (VSC) using 3IMPL algorithm, provides voltage and frequency control and elimination of harmonics of nonlinear loads. In proposed microgrid, a solar PV array is connected to the DC link through a boost converter and an INC (Incremental Conductance) technique is used for extraction of maximum power from a PV array. Due to intermittency of PV array, a synchronous reluctance generator (SyRG) is used for pico-hydro generation because it is economical, ecologically sustainable, requires less maintenance and extremely reliable. Moreover, a microgrid suffers from problems of variation in generation and continuous load fluctuations, therefore for power balancing between the source and the load, a storage battery is connected across the DC link of VSC through a bidirectional DC-DC converter. Test results on a prototype have verified the control strategy and it is able to improve the power quality of the system at varying solar insolation and unbalance in loads.

    摘要: This paper presents the implementation of a double stage solar photovoltaic (PV) single phase grid connected system using correntropy based control algorithm. This algorithm helps to obtain sinusoidal grid currents even in the presence of nonlinear loads connected at PCC (Point Of Common Coupling), thus improving the power quality of the system. It has almost no steady state error as well as strong filtering ability. The proposed system is configured using a solar PV array, a single phase grid, a voltage source converter (VSC), a DC link capacitor, a boost converter, a ripple filter, an interfacing inductor and the nonlinear loads. The boost converter extracts maximum power from the solar PV array using the drift free MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) method. A prototype is developed to affirm the system performance by testing it under various conditions. The grid conditions of the system obtained after the application of this control strategy conforms well to the harmonic standard IEEE 519.

  • Optimal Operation of PV-DG-battery based Microgrid with Power Quality Conditioner

    摘要: This paper presents an optimal control operation of a photovoltaic (PV)-battery based standalone microgrid, feeding nonlinear loads. To ensure continuous power supply to the critical loads during low insolation or low battery state of charge (SOC), a diesel generator (DG) is used as an auxiliary generator. This cost effective hybrid system with maximum utilization of the renewable as well as fossil fuel based generators, can be employed in hospitals, telecom stations in remote areas. In order to nullify the effect of nonlinear loads on the DG, modified enhanced phase locked loop (EPLL) based power quality conditioner is used. The characteristic equation of conventional EPLL is amplitude dependent, thus, the controller tuning parameters need to be modified if input signal varies over a large range. The presented controller overcomes this problem making the system more robust in eliminating noise & harmonics, and extracting fundamental component of given signal. This component is drawn from the DG with the help of voltage source converter, thus, making its current always distortion free. The proposed control scheme is simulated in MATLAB. Furthermore, experimental verification is done on a laboratory prototype of the same. The steady state and dynamic responses of the system validate its satisfactory performance.

  • Research on a novel power quality conditioner with PV for electrified railway

    摘要: With the fast development of electric railway, harmonics and reactive power problems caused by electric locomotive load remains to be further improved. This paper presents a novel power quality conditioner based on multiple H-bridges with photovoltaic power. The proposed structure utilizes a hybrid cascaded 81-level converter in series with a PWM converter to achieve a high-voltage and large-capacity power quality conditioner, and photovoltaic power connects with the DC bus side of the hybrid cascaded 81-level converter to reduce active consumption for electric railway. The fundamental voltage of the hybrid cascaded 81-level converter is controlled by the traction network. The active component of the PWM converter output current is controlled by DC link voltage of the hybrid cascaded 81-level converter, and its reactive and harmonic components are controlled by reactive and harmonic currents from the load. The system structure, working principle and control method of the novel power quality regulator are analysed. A single-phase traction system simulation model is built in MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results are presented to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed PQC.

    摘要: Power quality is a very important aspect in power system. The harmonics can be produced from various power electronics devices. This paper proposes a new fifteen level cascaded multilevel inverter. The inverter battery is charged using both solar and from service main. Solar is used to charge battery during day time and service main for the night time. If solar fails in day time the battery charges from service main. The battery charger will not take any supply from the service main during peak hours. Charging of the inverter battery during peak hours from the service main is isolated using real time clock circuit (RTC) controlled relay. Use of multilevel inverter helps to reduce the percentage of total harmonic distortion (THD) considerably.

    摘要: In past, the incandescent lamp (IL) which is resistive load is used. Its power factor is unity & current is harmonic free but it consumes more power & generate heat. Last few decades compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is widely used as it has an advantage of less power consumption & longer life. Nowadays Light Emitting Diode (LED) is used and have less energy consumption as compared to others lamp. But it has very less power factor, even if CFL & LED have a less energy consumption. It has various disadvantages such as it produces harmonic current due to use of semiconductor based devices. As harmonic current passes through impedance, it causes voltage distortion & hence degrading the overall power quality. In this paper the focus is given to the measurement of various power quality parameters such as Total Power Consumption and Total Harmonic Distortion for Current (ITHD) and Voltage (VTHD), Power Factor, Harmonics. The fluke 435 Series II Power Quality Analyzer is used for analysing different lamps used for residential, commercial, industrial purpose. This distorted current is improved as well as harmonics can be reduced by using harmonic filter. But it involves additional cost & expenses. Power Quality can be improved by adding harmonic filter with circuitry in lamp. This can lead to the improvement in Power Quality of overall power system.

    摘要: This paper presents a smart strategy for a charging station in which a single voltage source converter (VSC) does a multiple task such as power management among different energy sources and charging the electric vehicles (EVs), regulation of voltage and frequency of the generator, harmonics current compensation of nonlinear loads. The charging strategy is designed such that it primarily takes power from the solar photovoltaic (PV) array and a storage battery. In absence of these two sources, the charging station wisely takes power from the grid and the squirrel cage induction generator (SEIG) based diesel generator (DG) set. The DG set is operated such that it generates up to 33% more power than it rated capacity without surpassing the rated current in the windings, therefore, the size of the DG is reduced. Moreover, the voltage and frequency of the generator, are regulated at its rated values without a mechanical speed governor.

  • Robust EnKF with Improved RCGA based Control for Solar Energy Conversion Systems

    摘要: The robust ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) based control is proposed for multifunctional three phase grid-connected solar energy conversion system with distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) abilities. The robust EnKF based control facilitates the various functionalities of power quality (PQ) enhancement of the distribution grid such as grid currents balancing, harmonics current mitigation and unity power factor. The improved real coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) based metaheuristic approach is used to tune the proportional integral (PI) controller of the DC link voltage. Simulation results comparative dynamic performance, which demonstrates that the robust EnKF exhibits superior response as compared to state of the art techniques. The relative computational complexity of the proposed robust EnKF algorithm is analyzed with conventional stochastic filters such as Kalman filter (KF) and extended Kalman filter (EKF). To substantiate the proposed control, a prototype is realised in the laboratory and test results demonstrate satisfactory response of the grid-connected system subjected to various dynamic scenarios such as load currents imbalancing, harmonics compensation, imbalanced grid voltages, under voltage and over voltage. The response of grid currents are achieved within the IEEE-519, 1564 and 1159 standards.

    摘要: This paper presents a new control method for grid-connected pulse width modulation (PWM) inverters to reduce the output current harmonic distortion in a wide range of applications, including photovoltaic (PV) inverter. The proposed control method is designed to eliminate harmonics in micro-grid and to correct the system unbalance. The proposed technique is able to increase the inverter output current around 18 times of conventional one. Another advantage of the proposed control method is that it can be easily adopted into the distributed generation (DG) control system without the installation of extra hardware. The proposed control method comprises of the advance synchronous reference frame method (ASRF).
