  • Alkali-metal-adsorbed g-GaN monolayer: ultralow work functions and optical properties

    摘要: The electronic and optical properties of alkali-metal-adsorbed graphene-like gallium nitride (g-GaN) have been investigated using density functional theory. The results denote that alkali-metal-adsorbed g-GaN systems are stable compounds, with the most stable adsorption site being the center of the hexagonal ring. In addition, because of charge transfer from the alkali-metal atom to the host, the g-GaN layer shows clear n-type doping behavior. The adsorption of alkali metal atoms on g-GaN occurs via chemisorption. More importantly, the work function of g-GaN is substantially reduced following the adsorption of alkali-metal atoms. Specifically, the Cs-adsorbed g-GaN system shows an ultralow work function of 0.84 eV, which has great potential application in field-emission devices. In addition, the alkali-metal adsorption can lead to an increase in the static dielectric constant and extend the absorption spectrum of g-GaN.

  • Effects of the Electrode Modification Conditions on the Performance of Three-state Electrochromic Devices via Spin- coating

    摘要: Electrodeposition-based electrochromic devices capture numerous attentions due to their simple sandwich-type structure, facile and low-cost fabrication, and promising application. Herein, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles were modified onto fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrode via spin-coating technique with different rotation speed and precursor solution concentration, followed by sandwiching a suitable amount of gel electrolyte between the modified FTO electrode and a flat FTO electrode to fabricate the electrodeposition-based electrochromic device with reversible three-state optical transformation (transparent, mirror and black). A systematic study of correlation between electrode modification condition and morphological features of TiO2 thin films, as well as the performance of electrochromic devices, i.e. optical contrast, switching time, and cycling stability, were investigated. Optimized performances of three-stated electrochromic device could be obtained by properly manipulating the electrode modification conditions. The results in this study will provide valuable guidance for rational design of electrochromic device with satisfactory performance.

  • Polarization and acoustic properties of barium-modified lead-free potassium–sodium niobate ceramics

    摘要: Results of polarization and polarization switching in samples prepared by solid phase synthesis of the (1-х)(K0.5Na0.5)(Nb0.93Sb0.07)O3–xBaTiO3 + 0.5mol%MnO2 system at x = 0.01, 0.02, and 0.04 (KNNS7–xBT) studied over a wide range of temperatures are reported. The observed features of the dielectric nonlinearity at the ferroelectric and structural phase transitions in the materials are described. The dielectric response data of the samples of different contents of the admixture in the KNNS7–xВT ceramics are compared with the behaviour of their elastic properties.

  • Synthesis, In Vitro and In Vivo Behaviour of TiO2 Containing Inorganic/Organic Hybrids

    摘要: In the present study inorganic/organic hybrids reinforced by introducing titanium (TiO2) in the form of Ti-n-butoxide were prepared. The phase composition, microstructure and mechanical properties of the prepared hybrids were investigated. Increasing the titanium content gradually enhanced the mechanical data of the prepared hybrids. The formation of apatite on the surface of the prepared hybrids was examined in SBF (simulated body fluid). In vivo studies revealed the ability of the hybrids to regenerate bone tissue in femur defects of adult male rabbits five months after surgery. The prepared hybrids are considered to be promising materials for bone substitutes or bone filler.

  • Quantum Sphere-Packing Bounds with Polynomial Prefactors

    摘要: We study lower bounds on the optimal error probability in classical coding over classical-quantum channels at rates below the capacity, commonly termed quantum sphere-packing bounds. Winter and Dalai have derived such bounds for classical-quantum channels; however, the exponents in their bounds only coincide when the channel is classical. In this paper, we show that these two exponents admit a variational representation and are related by the Golden-Thompson inequality, reaf?rming that Dalai’s expression is stronger in general classical-quantum channels. Second, we establish a ?nite blocklength sphere-packing bound for classical-quantum channels, which signi?cantly improves Dalai’s prefactor from the order of subexponential to polynomial. Furthermore, the gap between the obtained error exponent for constant composition codes and the best known classical random coding exponent vanishes in the order of o(log n/n), indicating our sphere-packing bound is almost exact in the high rate regime. Finally, for a special class of symmetric classical-quantum channels, we can completely characterize its optimal error probability without the constant composition code assumption. The main technical contributions are two converse Hoeffding bounds for quantum hypothesis testing and the saddle-point properties of error exponent functions.

  • Structural and Diffuse Reflectance Study of Cr-Doped ZnO Nanorod-Pigments Prepared via Facile Thermal Decomposition Technique

    摘要: Ceramic coloured nanopigments are promising for commercial cool paint applications. This study was carried out to examine the near infrared (NIR) reflectivity of Cr-doped ZnO nanopigments prepared by simple thermal decomposition of zinc acetate dihydrate and chromium(III) acetate hydroxide as precursors of Zn and Cr, respectively. XRD, FTIR and SEM have been used to characterize the microstructure and morphological properties of the synthesized nanopigments. The obtained results referred to ZnO wurtzite hexagonal structure in absence of other ZnO phases or any phases based on chromium. The obtained particles of the investigated samples are uniform rod-like shape with average diameter about 50 nm. The diffuse reflectance measurements exhibited the decrease in NIR reflectance with increasing Cr content. The sample with lower content of Cr, 0.5 wt% of Cr precursor to Zn precursor, exhibited a maximum value of NIR solar reflectance (R*) of 53.1% with respect to the other doped samples. The optical energy gap (Eg) of the investigated nanopigments were calculated using diffuse reflectance spectrum in view of Kubelka–Munk assumptions and the obtained average value of Eg is 3.219 eV with small standard deviation ± 0.015 eV.

  • Structural, Optical, and Dielectric Studies on Sr-Doped Biferroic YCrO3

    摘要: In this work, the solid-state synthesis of Y1-xSrxCrO3 (x = 0.0, 0.1) samples has been reported. The X-ray diffraction data analysis confirmed that the synthesized samples have crystallized into the orthorhombic phase with the assigned space group Pbnm. The Rietveld refinement of the XRD data confirmed the structure and other related parameters. The slight variation in the lattice parameters and negligible shift in the reflection peaks reveals the uniform dispersion of Sr at Y-site in the parent YCrO3 matrix. The dielectric characterization revealed the good dielectric nature of the prepared samples which decreases with Sr doping. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) revealed that an agglomeration type process has taken place in the sample preparation. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) characterization witnessed the formation of orthorhombic phase of the samples under study displaying sharp absorption bands corresponding to Cr–O stretching, Y/Sr–O stretching, and O–Cr–O deformation vibration, respectively. UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis revealed the dual direct allowed bandgap of the samples assigned to the Cr3+ ion transition in the ground level.

  • Sol–Gel Spin-Coating Followed by Solvothermal Synthesis of Nanorods-Based ZnO Thin Films: Microstructural, Optical, and Gas Sensing Properties

    摘要: Zinc oxide thin films with nanorod morphology were investigated for microstructural and optical properties as well as their performance as a liquid petroleum gas sensing material. A two-step synthesis procedure consisting of sol–gel spin-coating and solvothermal methods was employed where several factors such as rational utilization of metal precursors, solvent, stabilizing, and structure directing agents, a repetitive drying-coating process, as well as post-thermal annealing were found influential to obtain qualified nanorods and a final homogeneous thin film. Compositional and optical investigations were pursued to characterize features, namely morphology, poly crystallinity, porous structure, nanocrystallite size, lattice oriented growth, textural atomic ratio, lattice purity and transparency, phonon and exciton transitions, as well as the formed structural defects via field-emission scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive x-ray, UV–Vis spectroscopy, Raman, and photoluminescence techniques. The as-prepared thin film was then used as an active LPG sensing material via a home-made gas sensor where the control sensing parameters were chamber testing temperature and gas concentration. Results showed a quantitative response of 92.7% as sensor sensitivity at an operation temperature of 250°C and a LPG concentration of 800 ppm in addition to fast response and recovery times of 44.1 s and 218.7 s, respectively.

  • Influence of Surface Modification and Dispersive Additives on Dielectric and Electrical Properties of BiFeO3/Poly(methyl methacrylate) Composite Films

    摘要: Surface modi?cation plays an important role to enhance the dielectric constant and minimize the dielectric loss. In this study, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composites ?lled with 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid-modi?ed bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3; BFO) have been prepared via solution casting technique. The surface morphology of the composites provides a better homogeneous dispersion of the particles in the polymer matrix and increases interface compatibility between modi?ed BFO and PMMA matrix. The experimental results show that the composites have high dielectric constant (≈ 147), alternating current (AC) conductivity (1 × 10??) and relatively low loss (< 1) at 100 Hz. The percolation phenomenon is well observed in the composite having less than 30 wt.% of BFO particles. Further, the composites produce passivation layers on the surface of modi?ed BFO particles which might improve the morphology and promote the space charges, interface effects and dielectric properties. Our strategy is to provide a simple and ef?cient approach to fabricate high-performance dielectric composites for energy storage applications.

  • Crack Restraining Methods and their Effects on the Microstructures and Properties of Laser Cladded WC/Fe Coatings

    摘要: Laser cladded WC/Fe coatings have the advantages of low cost and high abrasion wear resistance. However, cracks always appear in WC/Fe coatings, which limits their industrial application. In this paper, the co-effects of the re-melting process, heat treatments, and amount of Co element on the cracking susceptibility, microstructures, and mechanical properties of WC/Fe laser cladding coatings were studied. Experimental results show that re-melting process is helpful to improve the surface quality of the coating and to reduce the cracking susceptibility. The hardness of the coating decreases slightly but distributes more uniformly. Cracks in the coating can be inhibited effectively by preheating the substrate to 250 ?C and maintaining the temperature during the laser cladding process, as well as applying an annealing treatment at 300 ?C for 1 h. Heat treatment also results in a slight decrease in the hardness. Crack initiation cannot be restrained completely by applying the above two methods when laser cladding a big area of coating. On the basis of the above two methods, addition of Co element to the coating can further improve its toughness and decrease the crack susceptibility. Crack-free WC/Fe coating can be manufactured when 8% Co is added, and its wear resistance is much better than that of the hardened medium steel, especially when the wear time is long.
