  • Accurate Extraction of Equivalent Circuit Parameters of Spiral Resonators for the Design of Metamaterials

    摘要: Spiral resonators (SRs) are one of the most common typologies of resonant magnetic unit cell for the realization of metamaterials. The precise knowledge of their lumped electric properties (RLC parameters) is of crucial importance in the metamaterial design. Thus, an accurate and unambiguous procedure for estimating the value of the RLC lumped parameters of compact SRs is introduced. The proposed procedure relies on a rigorous approach allowing a complete characterization of SRs also in terms of Q-factor. The method is general and valid for other shapes of resonators. The estimations have been finally verified by performing measurements on fabricated SRs through a magnetic probe.

  • GENERATION, APPLICATION AND ANALYSIS OF A NOVEL FAMILY OF M-SEGMENT QUADRATIC FRACTAL CURVES TO ANTENNAS

    摘要: A novel family of fractal curves is proposed which provides the designer a systematic way of miniaturizing the microwave components with the freedom of choosing among form factor, design complexity and achieved miniaturization. The proposed fractal curve is characterized by two integer values m and n. The m value determines the form factor of the fractal while n value governs the iteration number. The equations governing the geometry of fractals are also presented. The proposed fractal is characterized for miniaturization by designing a printed monopole antenna for various values of m and n. The results from the full wave simulations and experiments are analysed and explained. The effect of fractal on reducing the resonant frequency is quantified by an equation based on its physical interpretation. Based on this analysis, saturation point for miniaturization is established. The curves being symmetric around a straight line, distortionless radiation patterns are seen.

  • HIGH IMPEDANCE PROPERTIES OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL COMPOSITE RIGHT/LEFT-HANDED TRANSMISSION LINES

    摘要: The electromagnetic characteristics of two-dimensional composite right/left-handed transmission lines (2D CRLH TLs) were investigated for the normal incidence of plane waves. The measured characteristic impedance and re?ection phases exhibited resonant high impedance properties (equivalent to zero re?ection phase) at a frequency within the left-handed mode for one-dimensional CRLH TL. An equivalent circuit was proposed to explain the measured characteristics. The relationship between the resonant frequency and the circuit parameters for 2D CRLH TLs was clari?ed by deriving an approximate equation for the resonant frequency.

  • Calculation of the resonant frequency of a rectangular dielectric resonator antenna using perturbation theory

    摘要: A theoretical investigation is carried out using the perturbation method to calculate the resonant frequency of a horizontally and vertically perturbed rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA). The accuracy of the proposed method is validated with the help of experimental and simulated data available in the existing literature, revealing that the calculated results are in good agreement with the available data. Compared with other numerical methods, the presented theory is easy to understand and can be implemented easily with the help of less complex equations. Furthermore, the perturbation provides greater ?exibility in antenna design, leading to a wide tuning range, and enhanced gain and bandwidth control compared with the unperturbed RDRA design.

  • Selective trapping of micro-particles on terahertz metamaterial with macro gesture manipulation

    摘要: To improve the sensitivity of detecting micro-particles, we propose new designs of terahertz metamaterial devices. These devices use microstructures to support the metal layer of metamaterial and thus can trap micro-particles at sensitive positions. We present two methods of selectively trapping micro-particles on such devices. One is to trap the micro-particles at the openings of split-ring-resonators (SRR), and the other is to trap them inside the SRR. Both methods use simple thumb gestures to control the movement of micro-particles. The methods can capture particles over a large surface area with time efficiency and low cost. Single particle trapped at each trapping site was achievable; the trapping rate was 64% using the first method, and 71% using the second. As a result, the resonant frequency before and after the micro-particles were trapped shifted 23 GHz for the first method and 71 GHz for the second. This shows great improvement as compared to earlier report of 15% trapping rate and 10 GHz resonant frequency shift.

    摘要: This paper presents a compact design of UWB antenna with reconfigurable dual notch bands is proposed. The UWB antenna with a notch filter consists of a circular antenna and two-pairs of L-shaped resonators. To realize the notch characteristics in WLAN at 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands, a half wavelength of L-resonator is introduced in the radiating patch. A small T-shaped notch is etched in the partial ground plane to enhance the UWB bandwidth up to 7.513 GHz, which covers the frequency range from 3.048 - 10.561 GHz. An experimental proposed structure shows a good agreement with the simulated results. Furthermore, the proposed UWB antenna with notch filter has a compact size of 37.6 x 28 mm2. This proposed design can give an alternative solution for eliminating WLAN interferes in the UWB bands by designing the notch filter with a good tuning capability.
