    摘要: The luminance method applied while assessing the quality of lighting for the roads, mainly for motor traffic, with movement speed ranging from average to high, was described in this article. The main part of the article refers to the issue of taking measurements of luminance distribution on the roads. The measurements taken on the expressway were presented and probable causes of differences between the results of the project and results of the measurements were described.

    摘要: Road luminaires are improving visual comfort during the night driving which has impact on road safety. Properly designed luminaires are also able to meet the standard requirements for its high energy efficiency. In this research it was checked how the measurement accuracy of luminaire luminous intensity distribution curve are impact on accuracy of road lighting calculations. The calculations were performed for several typical road luminaires. Based on this research it was found that programs supporting the lighting design calculation process gives more realistic results when the luminaire has accurately determined luminous intensity distribution curve.

    摘要: The paper provides a detailed analysis of traffic accidents in the Czech Republic, which will serve as one of the input materials for the preparation of the national methodology for the selection of lighting classes for public lighting based on the administrative classification of roads in the Czech Republic. For the analysis of traffic accidents a detailed data of traffic accidents from the statistics of the Police of the Czech Republic in the time period from 2013 to 2017 are used. Traffic accidents are analysed according to the location of the accident, i.e. a straight road section, a road curve, an traffic junction, time interval during the night hours, the road category, the size of the municipality or the severity of the accident. The number of traffic accidents lighting operation is also compared with the total number of traffic accidents during the day and outside municipalities. The results of the analysis will be used in the selection system of lighting classes for each traffic road category, for setting the parameters in the conflict area and it will be used also for setting rules for adaptive lighting levels during night hours.

  • Correspondence: Disturbance of vision by after-images from LED light sources

    摘要: Modern LED-lighting for roads and tunnels causes difficulties for authorities and for users. The causes differ from the usual disturbance caused by glare, dazzle and flicker. Based on casual real world observations, it is felt that a cause might be the occurrence of after-images. After-images are, of course, a well-known and well-established visual phenomenon going back more than two centuries to the times of Goethe, Fechner and Helmholtz. After-images persist for a period that may, depending on the circumstances, amount to many minutes and even to hours. They are either positive or negative, and they may exhibit colour phenomena. Under road and street lighting using traditional gas-discharge light sources, after-images may be disregarded because of their limited duration and severity. However, modern LED lighting is different.

  • The Active Power Losses in the Road Lighting Installation with Dimmable LED Luminaires

    摘要: In accordance with the requirements of PN EN 13201-5 standard for road lighting installation, energy performance indicators should be descripted. In order to calculate energy performance indicators, it is necessary to know the active power of the road lighting system. The above standard does not specify whether active power losses should be taken into account in calculations. The main purpose of the article is to estimate the active power losses in the road lighting installation. The article presents methods for calculating active power losses, taking into account losses in all main elements of the installation. The obtained calculation results show the relationship between active power losses and the power of luminaires, their number and spacing between poles. Calculations of active power losses were made for single-phase and three-phase installations. The active power losses in a three-phase system do not exceed 1.5% and in a single-phase installation they may be greater than 7%. Therefore, in order to obtain exact values of energy performance indicators (and also predict electricity consumption), active power losses should be taken into account in calculations. In addition, a comparative analysis of the effect of luminaires dimming and active power losses on annual CO2 emissions was made. Not taking into account the active power losses in the calculation of the lighting installation’s power, for single-phase installations in particular, understates the calculated value of CO2 emissions by more than 6%.

    摘要: With the advent of LED technology, lighting studies have gained a great interest, especially street lighting. Nowadays, these studies demonstrate the great energy savings achieved by replacing high pressure sodium lamps with LED. As LED technology is continuously improving, energy savings are increased and thus the payback time of the investment is decreasing more and more. However, there are a lot of cases were the public constructions are delayed and the initial lighting design is getting obsolete, due to the energy efficient upgrade of the LEDs. In this research a newest version (2019) for the lighting design was performed using the latest technology of LED street lighting and compared with the one performed in 2017. Egnatia Odos EO, the largest national road in Greece, was selected as the case study for both studies (2017 and 2019). EO covers a distant of 670 km in northern Greece. Existing lighting infrastructure was designed and installed 17 years before, according to the previous version of EN12301 [1-3].

    摘要: A methodology for iterative optimization of optical systems for street LED luminaires intended for roads designed according to luminance requirement is proposed in the paper. The methodology comprises the following stages: iterative change of the shape of secondary lens of a computer model of the optical system, photometric analysis using the Monte Carlo raytracing method of the modelled three- dimensional optical systems to calculate their photometric characteristics, optimal road lighting calculations with an optimum criterion – maximum luminaire spacing meeting the requirements of standard for the selected M6 lighting class of the road, through the analysis of which the optimal solution is found.

    摘要: To see through the thick fog is an important challenge in the field of autonomous driving technology. This experiment developed a new lighting method to improve visibility under thick fog based on the principle of visual acuity in biology of vision. The experiment was conducted in a fog equipment that is 1.5 meters * 1.2 meters * 4.0 meters in volume, with an accurate ratio of 1:15 compared with realistic road. The experiment increased the visual distance under thick fog from 1.5 meters to 3.0 meters, increased by one time. The research results are of great significance to the development of autonomous driving technology.

  • Effectiveness of an alternative model for establishing mesopic luminance

    摘要: To determine mesopic luminance for a given photopic luminance and scotopic/photopic (S/P) ratio, the Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) recommended system utilizes an equation. Whilst being accurate, it requires several iterations to achieve a stable result and requires the use of an adaptation coefficient. This article proposes an alternative approach, a model developed using a Rational Taylor function which does not require either iteration or an adaptation coefficient. Road lighting tends to use average photopic luminances in the range of 0.1 to 3 cd/m2; within this range, the model has an average error of 0.28% against the iteration approach, which is sufficient for most practical purposes.
