    摘要: The performance of coherent symbol detection in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems is tightly related to the channel knowledge at the receiver side. For MIMO detection, achieving near-optimal performance with a low computational complexity has been a topic of several recent researches. In this paper, we propose a robust detector for uncoded MIMO systems with imperfect CSI (ICSI). The proposed detector is based on the likelihood ascent search (LAS) algorithm which achieves near maximum likelihood (ML) performance with a reduced complexity. To take into account the channel estimation error, we propose to use a modified likelihood metric function. Moreover, to enhance the system performance, we suggest to perform the channel estimation and the data detection in an iterative manner. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional LAS detector.

    摘要: This paper proposes a compressed columnwise robust principal component analysis (CCRPCA) method for hyperspectral anomaly detection. The CCRPCA improves the regular RPCA by using the Hadamard random projection and constraining the columnwise structure of sparse anomaly matrix. The Hadamard random projection reduces the computational cost of the hyperspectral data, and the columnwise sparse structure alleviates negative effects from the anomalies on the columns of the background. The sparse anomaly matrix and the background matrix are estimated by optimizing a convex program, and the anomalies are estimated from nonzero columns of the compressed sparse matrix. Preliminary experiment result from the San Diego dataset shows that the CCRPCA outperforms four state-of-the-art detection methods in both the receiver operating characteristic curve and the area under curve.

  • Adaptive Sidelobe Cancellation Technique for Atmospheric Radars Containing Arrays with Nonuniform Gain

    摘要: The design and performance evaluation is presented of a partially adaptive array that suppresses clutter from low elevation angles in atmospheric radar observations. The norm-constrained and directionally constrained minimization of power (NC-DCMP) algorithm has been widely used to suppress clutter in atmospheric radars, because it can limit the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss to a designated amount, which is the most important design factor for atmospheric radars. To suppress clutter from low elevation angles, adding supplemental antennas that have high response to the incoming directions of clutter has been considered to be more efficient than to divide uniformly the high-gain main array. However, the proper handling of the gain differences of main and sub-arrays has not been well studied. We performed numerical simulations to show that using the proper gain weighting, the sub-array configuration has better clutter suppression capability per unit SNR loss than the uniformly divided arrays of the same size. The method developed is also applied to an actual observation dataset from the MU radar at Shigaraki, Japan. The properly gain-weighted NC-DCMP algorithm suppresses the ground clutter sufficiently with an average SNR loss of about 1 dB less than that of the uniform-gain configuration.

  • Realization of a three-dimensional photonic topological insulator

    摘要: Confining photons in a finite volume is highly desirable in modern photonic devices, such as waveguides, lasers and cavities. Decades ago, this motivated the study and application of photonic crystals, which have a photonic bandgap that forbids light propagation in all directions1–3. Recently, inspired by the discoveries of topological insulators4,5, the confinement of photons with topological protection has been demonstrated in two-dimensional (2D) photonic structures known as photonic topological insulators6–8, with promising applications in topological lasers9,10 and robust optical delay lines11. However, a fully three-dimensional (3D) topological photonic bandgap has not been achieved. Here we experimentally demonstrate a 3D photonic topological insulator with an extremely wide (more than 25 per cent bandwidth) 3D topological bandgap. The composite material (metallic patterns on printed circuit boards) consists of split-ring resonators (classical electromagnetic artificial atoms) with strong magneto-electric coupling and behaves like a ‘weak’ topological insulator (that is, with an even number of surface Dirac cones), or a stack of 2D quantum spin Hall insulators. Using direct field measurements, we map out both the gapped bulk band structure and the Dirac-like dispersion of the photonic surface states, and demonstrate robust photonic propagation along a non-planar surface. Our work extends the family of 3D topological insulators from fermions to bosons and paves the way for applications in topological photonic cavities, circuits and lasers in 3D geometries.

    摘要: A digital watermark is a visible or invisible pattern embedded in a digital image which can be used for copyright protection, authentication, broadcast monitoring, telemedicine and many more. This paper describes how an efficient CDMA based spread spectrum technique can be combined with the most prominent spectrum efficient OFDM technology to formulate a robust watermarking algorithm which is suitable for image distortions due to time delays and spatial shift that may occur during the transmission of watermarked images. A detailed simulation of embedding and decoding algorithm was performed. Simulation results reveal that the algorithm is computationally efficient, robust and is well suited for wireless multipath fading channel. The algorithm was tested against a number of the possible noises in the wireless channels and various geometric and signal processing operations. The proposed algorithm is proved to be robust enough to extract a good quality watermark compared to well-known techniques.

    摘要: This paper presents a secure and robust color image watermarking algorithm for copyright protection. This method uses lifting wavelet transform (LWT) to decompose both the host image and the watermark into different sub-bands and performs watermark embedding in the transform domain. A security key is introduced in the algorithm for security purpose. Two color images are used to test the performance of the proposed algorithm. Results show that the scheme not only has good imperceptibility and but also are robust to various geometric and image processing attacks.

  • White light interferometry and MountainsMap? - case studies in static load capacity of bearings and surface finish optimisation of orthotic knee joints

    摘要: This paper deals with two case studies demonstrating the combined use of white light interferometry and MountainsMap? software to: 1) accurately measure indentation diameters on race elements with an accuracy of a 1/100th of a micrometer and to examine static load capacity of bearings compared to the industry standard. In this case study, static load capacity of the ball bearings was shown to be 31% lower than that specified by ISO and ANSI/ABMA bearing standards; 2) characterise machined surfaces with 2D and 3D parameters, with the goal of producing optimal surface finish on orthotic knee joints used by Cerebral Palsy patients. In this case study, 2D roughness parameters Ra, Rq, Rp, Rz, and 3D roughness parameters Sa, Sq, Sp, Sz, were improved by 34%, 31%, 8%, 20%, and 36%, 33%, 6%, 6% respectively. Both case studies demonstrate the significance of modern topography techniques in enhancing the measurement accuracy of surface characteristics.

  • Growth behavior and thermally stable electrical properties of TiNbO5 nanosheet thin films grown using the electrophoretic method

    摘要: TiNbO5 (TNO) thin films were deposited by electrophoresis at room temperature by using TNO nanosheets. These TNO films exhibited a large (001) interplanar distance (1.18 nm) owing to the presence of TBA+ between the TNO layers. The TBA+, which were used to synthesize the TNO nanosheets, were removed from the TNO film after annealing at 600 °C. Two types of structures were developed in the film annealed at 600 °C: type-1 and type-2, which revealed (001) interplanar distances of 0.52 and 0.71 nm, respectively. The TNO film annealed at 600 °C showed a dielectric constant of 48.5, low dielectric loss (0.02), and small leakage current density of 4.16 × 10^-7 A/cm^2 at 0.6 MV/cm. The dielectric properties were stable with respect to the film thickness and the applied electric field; the dielectric and insulation properties were maintained up to 300 °C. Therefore, TNO films are good candidates for high-temperature capacitors.

  • Robust Noisiness Measure Based Improved Generalized Fuzzy Peer Group for Removal of Mixed Noise From Color Image

    摘要: In this letter, a novel method has been proposed to estimate noisiness of a pixel in an image. The proposed noisiness is based on a robust noisiness measure, which is evaluated using noise and edge information of locality of the pixel. Furthermore, this noisiness is used to develop a fuzzy peer group for removing mixed Gaussian and impulse noises from color images. Also, an iterative approach to the proposed method is presented. The proposed approach is then compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms. Results shows that the proposed method outperform existing algorithms significantly.

  • An Efficient and Fast Quantum State Estimator With Sparse Disturbance

    摘要: A pure or nearly pure quantum state can be described as a low-rank density matrix, which is a positive semidefinite and unit-trace Hermitian. We consider the problem of recovering such a low-rank density matrix contaminated by sparse components, from a small set of linear measurements. This quantum state estimation task can be formulated as a robust principal component analysis (RPCA) problem subject to positive semidefinite and unit-trace Hermitian constraints. We propose an efficient and fast inexact alternating direction method of multipliers (I-ADMM), in which the subproblems are solved inexactly and hence have closed-form solutions. We prove global convergence of the proposed I-ADMM, and the theoretical result provides a guideline for parameter setting. Numerical experiments show that the proposed I-ADMM can recover state density matrices of 5 qubits on a laptop in 0.69 s, with 6 × 10^{-4} accuracy (99.38% fidelity) using 30% compressive sensing measurements, which outperforms existing algorithms.
