  • Rapid Fabrication of Thin Films for Perovskite Solar Cells

    摘要: Rapid development of the thin film perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has resulted in research and development of these photovoltaic (PV) devices for automated manufacturing. Successful commercialization of PSC modules requires high throughput manufacturing with respect to the application of cheap materials and rapid cost-effective processing techniques. In this paper, several results pertinent to rapid roll-to-roll printing of the absorber and charge carrier transport thin films are presented. The successful fabrication of the processed thin films resulted in devices with 8.30% efficiency. Characterization was conducted through scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy which, in turn, delineated the susceptibility of our custom-made setup for successful up-scale manufacturing of PSCs.

    摘要: This paper presents a compact and low-profile bandpass filter (BPF) built of silica-based post-wall waveguide. The BPF adopts direct-coupled resonator filters based on cylindrical resonators. The filter is highly configurable in shape and allows flexible and compact design. A compact E-band hybrid-coupled diplexer is presented as an application. The dimensions of the BPF and diplexer are 4.0×4.0 mm2 and 9.4×9.9 mm2, respectively. The insertion loss of the lower passband of the diplexer is 1.52 dB at 72.9 GHz and that of the higher passband is 2.0 dB at 82.8 GHz

    摘要: We present here a fully planar, low-cost and easy to fabricate power divider and a slot array antenna operating at 5G communication bands, based on a new version of the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). The proposed SIW is synthesized by replacing each via row, with two rows of broadside-coupled complementary split ring resonators (BC-CSRRs), etched on the top and bottom metal ground surfaces of the dielectric substrate. Such resonators provide a negative effective permittivity and are capable of perfectly confining the wave within the propagating channel. The proposed waveguide exhibits excellent propagation characteristics, with losses close to those of the conventional SIW, providing a highly promising platform to implement low-cost planar components for 5G applications.

    摘要: In a phased array antenna system, beamforming integrated circuit (IC) is located directly behind the antenna and uses a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB). As the frequency band becomes higher, the direct via feed method is not suitable for multi-layer PCB structure due to the decrease of transmission characteristics and the increase of manufacturing difficulty by use of blind via. This paper introduces the antenna using an aperture coupled feeding technique on multi-layer PCB for a Ku-band phased array antenna system. To verify the design, an antenna prototype is developed and measured at Ku-band for satellite applications. The antenna operates with left-handed circular polarization (LHCP) at center frequency of 11.9GHz and a peak gain of 15.2dBic.

  • Slot-Waveguide Silicon Nitride Organic Hybrid Distributed Feedback Laser

    摘要: one of the major barriers for a widespread commercial uptake of silicon nitride photonic integrated circuits for cost-sensitive applications is the lack of low-cost monolithically integrated laser light sources directly emitting into single-mode waveguides. In this work, we demonstrate an optically pumped organic solid-state slot-waveguide distributed feedback laser designed for a silicon nitride organic hybrid photonic platform. Pulsed optical excitation of the gain medium is achieved by a 450 nm laser diode. the optical feedback for lasing is based on a second-order laterally coupled Bragg grating with a slot-waveguide core. Optimized material gain properties of the organic dye together with the increased modal gain of the laser mode arising from the improved overlap of the slot-waveguide geometry with the gain material enable single-mode lasing at a wavelength of 600 nm. The straightforward integration and operation with a blue laser diode leads to a cost-effective coherent light source for photonic integrated devices.

    摘要: In this paper, we introduce a novel electronically beam steered leaky-wave antenna. The proposed quasi-uniform leaky-wave antenna is implemented on a substrate integrated waveguide. The introduction of switches over the slots on the broad wall of the antenna leads to beam steering with variations in the side-lobe levels, directivity, and gain of the antenna. A center frequency of 28.5 GHz has been selected. The optimized length, width, and height of the antenna are 68 mm, 24 mm, and 0.3 mm, respectively. Scanning capability, low profile, simplicity, and high gain in the proposed structure makes it a suitable candidate for 5G navigation systems and cellular networks.

  • Interlayer Engineering of Flexible and Large-Area Red Organic-Light-Emitting Diodes Based on an N-Annulated Perylene Diimide Dimer

    摘要: Flexible red OLEDs based on a quadruple-layer stack, in between electrodes, with 160 mm2 active area were fabricated in ambient air on PET via slot-die-coating. For the OLED structure PET/ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK/PFO:tPDI2N-EH/ZnO/Ag, the ink formulations and coating parameters for each layer were systematically evaluated and optimized. The air-stable red-light-emitting material tPDI2N-EH was successfully utilized as blended homogeneous film with PFO for the emitting layer. The use of an organic hole-transport layer (PVK) and inorganic electron injection layer (ZnO) significantly improved the brightness of the reference device from 4 to 303 cd/m2. Surface analysis using AFM measurements showed that the PVK interlayer reduced the surface roughness of the hole injection layer (PEDOT:PSS) from 0.45 to 0.17 nm, which improved the ability to form uniform emitting layers on top. In addition, the ZnO interlayer decreased surface roughness from 1.26 to 0.85 nm and reduced the turn-on voltage of the device from 5.0 to 2.8 V.

    摘要: The paper describes designs and simulations of new dual-band antennas. The designs exploit the resonance and radiating properties of the H00 mode of metal open waveguides. The proposed antennas are formed by two metal sheets of symmetrical shapes separated by a S-shape slot. The slot is backed by curved metal screens connected to the metal sheets forming an open waveguide. The slot ends are open and a 50Ohm transmission line connected to the middle of the slot is used as the antenna feed. It has been shown that the antenna designs can operate in WiFi bands without additional tuning. The antenna operational bandwidth in the lower band is about 70% and in the upper band is higher than 37%. The antenna designs are very simple and low-cost and can be efficiently used in various communication devices.

  • Direct observation and simultaneous use of linear and quadratic electro-optical effects

    摘要: We report on the direct observation and simultaneous use of the linear and quadratic electro-optical effect and propose a method by which higher-order susceptibilities of electro-optical materials can be determined. The evaluation is based on the separation of the second- and third-order susceptibilities and the experimental technique uses a slot waveguide ring resonator fabricated in an integrated photonic circuit technology, which is embedded by a guest-host polymer system consisting of the azobenzene dye disperse red 1 in a poly(methyl methacrylate) matrix as active electro-optical material. The contribution of both effects on the electro-optical response under the influence of static and time-varying electrical fields is investigated. We show that the quadratic electro-optical effect has a significant influence on the overall electro-optical response even with acentric molecular orientated molecules. Our findings have important implications for developing electro-optical devices based on polymer-filled slot waveguides and give rise to advanced photonic circuits.

    摘要: The use of extra slots in a slotted waveguide array for improving the impedance bandwidth is investigated. This has not widely studied previously, probably because the directive pattern is a primary parameter for the waveguide array and extra elements are prone to spoiling the control of the pattern. However, the pattern is not a primary design parameter for most mobile terminals, and here we seek a wide bandwidth for a smaller antenna than the traditional waveguide array, which is suitable for a mobile terminal. The extra slots can be viewed as parasitic elements, analogously to free-space thin wire parasitic, but the designs are not interchangeable with wire antennas. This is because the waveguide - both the internal and external structure - constrains the excitation of the slot elements in a different way to that of the wire antenna analogies. Simple-to-build designs are sought where the slot elements are on only one of the waveguide broad walls. The approach is experimental (simulation) which allows rapid and accurate evaluation of different con?gurations. We do not optimize a con?guration because any optimal design will depend on the speci?c structure of the mobile terminal supporting the antenna. For the basic stand-alone waveguide, a -6dB impedance bandwidth of ~ 30% is demonstrated using four slot elements in a short waveguide.
