摘要: In this paper, we consider the problem of Multiple-Input-Single-Output (MISO) Free-Space Optical (FSO) communications with intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM/DD). Unlike the commonly adopted Gaussian-noise approximation, we adopt the exact Poisson statistics for the number of photons falling on the receiver. In particular, we compare three popular MISO schemes; namely, repetition coding (RC), optical spatial modulation (OSM) and spatial multiplexing (SMux). For each one of these schemes, we derive the optimal maximum-likelihood (ML) decoder and we contrast the schemes in terms of rate, performance, complexity, channel state information requirements and tolerance to channel estimation errors.

摘要: In this paper, we propose a virtual spatial modulation (VSM) scheme that performs index modulation on the virtual parallel channels resulting from the singular value decomposition of the multi-input-multi-output channels. The VSM scheme conveys information through both the indices of the virtual parallel channels and the M -ary modulated symbols. We derive a closed-form upper bound on the average bit error probability (ABEP), which considers the impact of imperfect channel estimation. Moreover, the asymptotic ABEP is also studied, which characterizes the error ?oor under imperfect channel estimation and the resulting diversity order as well as the coding gain under perfect channel estimation. Computer simulations verify the analysis and show that the VSM scheme can outperform the existing pre-coding aided spatial modulation schemes under the same spectral ef?ciency.

Spatial Carrierless Amplitude and Phase Modulation Technique for Visible Light Communication Systems
摘要: Spatial carrierless amplitude and phase modulation (S-CAP) technique is developed in this paper as a physical layer solution to improve the spectral efficiency of the conventional CAP scheme while preserving its low-complexity transceiver design. The S-CAP technique is proposed and investigated for systems employing the visible light communication technology. An analytical expression for the joint detection of the spatial and signal bits for the user equipment experiencing line-of-sight propagation (LOS) is derived and validated via simulation. The effects of the multipath propagation and user mobility on the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the proposed S-CAP are also investigated. It is found that the BER performance of the S-CAP in LOS is dictated by the minimum of the channel gains hmin, the signal constellation points, and the channel gain dissimilarity, Δ|h|. The power factor imbalance (PFI) and multiple photodetectors (PDs) are then introduced to improve the performance and mitigate the channel impairments. The use of the PFI and PDs in LOS results in the signal-to-noise gain of 33.5 and 43 dB, respectively. The proposed scheme is thus a novel implementation of the CAP in a multiple-input–multiple-output system and demonstrates its potential as a suitable physical layer solution for the VLC technology.

Secure Spatial Modulation Based on Dynamic Multi-Parameter WFRFT
摘要: A novel secure spatial modulation (SM) scheme based on dynamic multi-parameter weighted-type fractional Fourier transform (WFRFT), abbreviated as SMW, is proposed. Each legitimate transmitter runs WFRFT on the spatially modulated super symbols before transmit antennas, the parameters of which are dynamically updated using the transmitting bits. Each legitimate receiver runs inverse WFRFT to demodulate the received signals, the parameters of which are also dynamically generated using the recovered bits with the same updating strategies as the transmitter. The dynamic update strategies of WFRFT parameters are designed. As a passive eavesdropper is ignorant of the initial WFRFT parameters and the dynamic update strategies, which are indicated by the transmitted bits, it cannot recover the original information, thereby guaranteeing the communication security between legitimate transmitter and receiver. Besides, we formulate the maximum likelihood (ML) detector and analyze the secrecy capacity and the upper bound of BER. Simulations demonstrate that the proposed SMW scheme can achieve a high level of secrecy capacity and maintain legitimate receiver’s low BER performance while deteriorating the eavesdropper’s BER.

Optical polar based MIMO-OFDM with fully generalised index-spatial LED modulation
摘要: A novel efficient visible light communication (VLC) modulation technique teams as polar fully generalised index-spatial (PFGIS) modulation light emitting diode (LED) for the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) optical polar based OFDM (MIMO-POFDM) system is proposed here. The PFGIS is a spectrally efficient (SE) modulation scheme which introduces an elegant solution to tackle the OFDM signal shaping problem, moreover, the PFGIS improves the optical MIMO-OFDM system SE. In the PFGIS, the Cartesian complex OFDM signal is transformed to polar OFDM (POFDM). Then, the indices of the active LEDs are exploited to convey the POFDM signal components. While, the spatial position of the LEDs are exploited as a spatial modulation (SM). In the SM, the LEDs indices used for data transmission are changed from the case of two LEDs are selected to case where all/multiple LEDs are selected. Subsequently, the proposed system achievable data rate is linearly increased with the LEDs number. The PFGIS gives higher SE even with a lower LEDs number compared with the recently OFDM optical LED index modulation techniques. Simulation results confirm the efficiency of the proposed PFGIS in improving both the achievable data rate and the bit error rate compared with the up-to-date LED index modulation OFDM schemes.

摘要: This letter proposes a jointly mapped spatial modulation (JM-SM) scheme to break through the constraint on the number of transmit antennas in traditional SM systems. It is realized via jointly mapping the transmit information bits to 3-D constellation points. A 3-D constellation design scheme for a JM-SM is analyzed and established by minimizing the system average bit error probability (ABEP). In addition, the extension of the joint 3-D mapping to generalized spatial modulation is discussed. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes can be adapted to multiple-input multiple-output systems with an arbitrary number of transmit antennas and offer better ABEP performance than those existing schemes.

All-Optical Switching Based on the Plasma Channel Induced by Laser Pulses
摘要: We display a theoretical and experimental study of all-optical switching for signal lasers based on the plasma channel induced by the control laser. Using the plasma channel generated in the carbon disulfide (CS2) solution, the signal light can be modulated as some spatial distributions including unchanging, ring-shaped beam, and other intensity profiles. The modulation on the signal light can be conveniently adjusted by changing the control light’s incident intensity distribution. We can infer the dark spot shape in the modulated signal laser through the intensity profile of control laser beam. These results provide the great potential of plasma channel induced by lasers as an all-optical switching for various optoelectronic applications.

Simultaneous Spectral and Spatial Modulation for Color Printing and Holography Using All-Dielectric Metasurfaces
摘要: Metasurfaces possess the outstanding ability to tailor phase, amplitude and even spectral responses of light with an unprecedented ultrahigh resolution, thus have attracted significant interests. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel meta-device that integrates color printing and computer-generated holograms within a single-layer dielectric metasurface by modulating spectral and spatial responses at subwavelength scale, simultaneously. In our design, such metasurface appears as a microscopic color image under white light illumination, while encrypting two different holographic images that can be projected at the far-field when illuminated with red and green laser beams. We choose amorphous silicon dimers and nanofins as building components, and use a modified parallel Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm to obtain multiple sub-holograms with arbitrary spatial shapes for image-indexed arrangements while avoiding the loss of phase information. Such a method can further extend the design freedom of metasurfaces. By exploiting spectral and spatial control at the level of individual pixels, multiple sets of independent information can be introduced into a single-layer device, the additional complexity and enlarged information capacity are promising for novel applications such as information security and anti-counterfeiting.
