Angular streaking of Auger-electrons by THz field
摘要: Rotational streaking by a circularly polarized THz field of Auger electrons generated by a short extreme ultraviolet (XUV) or X-ray pulse is theoretically investigated. The character of the streaking pattern depends on three main parameters: the duration of the XUV pulse, the Auger decay time-of-life and the period of the THz field. Different cases with various interrelations of these parameters are discussed. Examples of the patterns are calculated within the strong field approximation. Correspondence between the angular streaking of electrons in the processes of photoionization and Auger ionization is considered. Retrieval of the Auger decay parameters from circular streaking spectrum is discussed.

Substituent effects on H <sub/>3</sub><sup>+</sup> formation via H <sub/>2</sub> roaming mechanisms from organic molecules under strong-field photodissociation
摘要: Roaming chemical reactions are often associated with neutral molecules. The recent findings of roaming processes in ionic species, in particular, ones that lead to the formation of H3+ under strong-field laser excitation, are of considerable interest. Given that such gas-phase reactions are initiated by double ionization and subsequently facilitated through deprotonation, we investigate the strong-field photodissociation of ethanethiol, also known as ethyl mercaptan, and compare it to results from ethanol. Contrary to expectations, the H3+ yield was found to be an order of magnitude lower for ethanethiol at certain laser field intensities, despite its lower ionization energy and higher acidity compared to ethanol. In-depth analysis of the femtosecond time-resolved experimental findings, supported by ab initio quantum mechanical calculations, provides key information regarding the roaming mechanisms related to H3+ formation. Results of this study on the dynamics of dissociative half-collisions involving H3+, a vital cation which acts as a Br?nsted–Lowry acid protonating interstellar organic compounds, may also provide valuable information regarding the formation mechanisms and observed natural abundances of complex organic molecules in interstellar media and planetary atmospheres.

High order harmonic generation in solids: a review on recent numerical methods
摘要: Interaction of intense lasers with solid materials offers an alternative way to achieve high-order harmonic generation (HHG). Since the underlying mechanisms of the harmonic emission remain uncertain, a large number of theoretical studies have been proposed to explain the experimental findings in this fast-growing field. Here, we review the primary numerical methods and present a brief perspective of HHG in solids.

Dynamical distortions of structural signatures in molecular high-order harmonic spectroscopy
摘要: We study the signature of two-center interferences in molecular high-order harmonic spectra, with an emphasis on the spectral phase. With the help of both ab initio computations based on the time-dependent Schr?dinger equation and the molecular strong-field approximation (SFA) as developed by Chiril? et al. [Phys. Rev. A 73, 023410 (2006)] and Faria [Phys. Rev. A 76, 043407 (2007)], we observe that the phase behavior is radically different for the short and the long trajectory contributions. By means of Taylor expansions of the molecular SFA, we link this effect to the dynamics of the electron in the continuum. More precisely, we find that the value of the electric field at recombination time plays a crucial role in the shape of the destructive interference phase jump.

Double-slit photoelectron interference in strong-field ionization of the neon dimer
摘要: Wave-particle duality is an inherent peculiarity of the quantum world. The double-slit experiment has been frequently used for understanding different aspects of this fundamental concept. The occurrence of interference rests on the lack of which-way information and on the absence of decoherence mechanisms, which could scramble the wave fronts. Here, we report on the observation of two-center interference in the molecular-frame photoelectron momentum distribution upon ionization of the neon dimer by a strong laser field. Post-selection of ions, which are measured in coincidence with electrons, allows choosing the symmetry of the residual ion, leading to observation of both, gerade and ungerade, types of interference.

Wavelength and shape dependent strong-field photoemission from silver nanotips
摘要: We study optical field emission from silver nanotips, showing the combined influence of the illumination wavelength and the exact shape of the nanotip on the strong-field response. This is particularly relevant in the case of FIB milled nano tips, where the nanotip fabrication capabilities could become a new ingredient for the study of strong-field physics. The influence of the thermal load on the nanotip and its effect on the emission is studied as well by switching the repetition rate of the laser source from 1 kHz to 62 MHz, showing a clear transition towards the quenching of the strong-field emission.

Ellipticity control of high-order harmonic generation with nearly orthogonal two-color laser fields
摘要: Elliptically polarized high-order harmonics opens a path toward the study of ultrafast dynamics in circular dichroism of magnetic materials, chiral molecules, and electronic spin motion. Recently, efficient high-order harmonic generation with controllable ellipticity has attracted considerable attention in experiment and theory. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a scenario using cross-linearly-polarized two-color fields consisting of a fundamental field and its second harmonic (SH). Through adjusting the relative phase, crossing angle, and intensity ratio of the cross-linearly-polarized two-color field, we obtain ellipticity-tunable high-order harmonics, with ellipticity up to ε = 0.73. Meanwhile, the elliptically polarized high-order harmonics preserve high efficiency. Furthermore, when the intensity of the SH field is stronger than that of the fundamental field, the even order harmonics will become several times stronger than the odd order harmonics with opposite helicity.

Radiation reaction in electrona??beam interactions with high-intensity lasers
摘要: Charged particles accelerated by electromagnetic fields emit radiation, which must, by the conservation of momentum, exert a recoil on the emitting particle. The force of this recoil, known as radiation reaction, strongly affects the dynamics of ultrarelativistic electrons in intense electromagnetic fields. Such environments are found astrophysically, e.g. in neutron star magnetospheres, and will be created in laser–matter experiments in the next generation of high-intensity laser facilities. In many of these scenarios, the energy of an individual photon of the radiation can be comparable to the energy of the emitting particle, which necessitates modelling not only of radiation reaction, but quantum radiation reaction. The worldwide development of multi-petawatt laser systems in large-scale facilities, and the expectation that they will create focussed electromagnetic fields with unprecedented intensities > 1023 Wcm?2, has motivated renewed interest in these effects. In this paper I review theoretical and experimental progress towards understanding radiation reaction, and quantum effects on the same, in high-intensity laser fields that are probed with ultrarelativistic electron beams. In particular, we will discuss how analytical and numerical methods give insight into new kinds of radiation–reaction-induced dynamics, as well as how the same physics can be explored in experiments at currently existing laser facilities.

Monitoring of Nonadiabatic Effects in Individual Chromophores by Femtosecond Double-Pump Single-Molecule Spectroscopy: A Model Study
摘要: We explore, by theoretical modeling and computer simulations, how nonadiabatic couplings of excited electronic states of a polyatomic chromophore manifest themselves in single-molecule signals on femtosecond timescales. The chromophore is modeled as a system with three electronic states (the ground state and two non-adiabatically coupled excited states) and a Condon-active vibrational mode which, in turn, is coupled to a harmonic oscillator heat bath. For this system, we simulate double-pump single-molecule signals with fluorescence detection for different system-field interaction strengths, from the weak-coupling regime to the strong-coupling regime. While the signals are determined by the coherence of the electronic density matrix in the weak-coupling regime, they are determined by the populations of the electronic density matrix in the strong-coupling regime. As a consequence, the signals in the strong coupling regime allow the monitoring of nonadiabatic electronic population dynamics and are robust with respect to temporal inhomogeneity of the optical gap, while signals in the weak-coupling regime are sensitive to fluctuations of the optical gap and do not contain information on the electronic population dynamics.

Two-Electron Interference in Strong-Field Ionization of He by a Short Intense Extreme Ultraviolet Laser Pulse
摘要: Double ionization of helium by a single intense (above 1018 W=cm2) linearly polarized extreme ultraviolet laser pulse is studied by numerically solving the full-dimensional time-dependent Schr?dinger equation. For the laser intensities well beyond the perturbative limit, novel gridlike interference fringes are found in the correlated energy spectrum of the two photoelectrons. The interference can be traced to the multitude of two-electron wave packets emitted at different ionization times. A semianalytical model for the dressed two-photon double ionization is shown to qualitatively account for the interference patterns in the joint energy spectrum. Similar signatures of interferences between transient induced time-delayed ionization bursts are expected for other atomic and molecular multielectron systems.
