  • Broadside Scanning Asymmetric SIW LWA with Consistent Gain and Reduced Side Lobe

    摘要: In this paper, a backwards-to-forward continuous beam scanning leaky wave antenna (LWA) is presented in substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The antenna radiates from a continuous longitudinal slot etched on its broad wall. The slot is excited by using periodic H-plane steps. An impedance matched unit cell structure is used to suppress the open stop-band in the broadside direction. Bloch wave analysis is used to obtain the propagation characteristics of the antenna. However, due to radiation being obtained only from the shunt type radiating element viz., the longitudinal slot, a gain dip is observed in the broadside direction. Transversal asymmetry is then introduced in the structure to eliminate the gain dip and obtain consistent gain. A prototype of the antenna is fabricated and measured. Continuous beam scanning is achieved from –29o to +30o about the broadside direction with a gain variation of less than 2 dB over 8.0–12.4 GHz. A measured peak gain of 16.1 dBi is obtained. Key structural design parameters of the antenna are identified for controlling the leakage rate. Next, Taylor tapered aperture illumination is used to obtain low sidelobe level (SLL). The Taylor tapered antenna is also fabricated with the measured SLL below -21 dB.

  • Design of duala??functional substratea??integrated waveguide cavity with integration of filter and antennas

    摘要: A dual-functional substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity which integrates a filter and two antennas is proposed in this article. Three slots are etched to divide a single cavity into four quarter-mode subcavities. Two equal subcavities are utilized to design a second-order filter. Mixed coupling is induced by this slot-etched structure, where a controllable transmission zero can be generated in the lower or upper stopband. Two unequal subcavities are utilized to design two integrated antennas. By adjusting their areas, the frequency ratio of these two antennas achieves a wide range of 0.55-1.81. In addition, the overall port isolation of higher than 21.0 dB is obtained by optimizing slot length. The proposed design has been validated by experimental results of a fabricated prototype. With advantages of low profile, light weight, suitable isolation, and flexible design, it has potential applications for modern wireless communication.

  • Single-Layer Dual-Band Balanced Substrate- Integrated Waveguide Filtering Power Divider for 5G Millimeter-Wave Applications

    摘要: A single-layer substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) filtering power divider (FPD) with fully differential operation at 28 and 39 GHz is proposed in this letter. This FPD consists of three SIW cavities where the differential and common modes of each cavity were properly designed to form three-pole dual passbands, facilitate deployment of isolation resistors, and introduce transmission zeros while attaining high in-band common-mode rejection. To improve the output return loss and isolation in dual bands, a novel and simple approach to find the proper location of isolation resistors is presented. At operating frequencies, the measured differential-mode input or output return loss, minimum insertion loss, isolation, and common-mode suppression are >14.1 dB, <(3 + 2.2) dB, >14.9 dB, and >30.3 dB, respectively. The amplitude and phase imbalances between outputs are <0.48 dB and <4.2?, respectively.

    摘要: In the current work, a new Wideband Substrate Integrated Waveguide Bandpass Filter (SIW-BPF) is presented. The target is to allow vertical roaming between the X and Ku band applications. As a first step, we performed a parametric study of different etched slot geometries namely, H-Slotted, T-Slotted, and U-Slotted DGS in order to examine the effects of altering different geometrical parameters of the unit on its response. H-Slotted DGS shows the highest FBW with 82.89% on the average compared to other geometries. As a second step, the cell size and the numbers of the H-Slotted DGS were optimized with the use of finite element method with the following constraints taken into consideration: low cost fabrication, high Q-Factor, compact size and easy integration. One of the designs was chosen for fabrication to validate the designed circuit. The measured results show that our optimized filter achieves an insertion loss of 2.01 dB at 8.5 GHz, a return loss higher than 11 dB and fractional bandwidth of 90.87% for a single cell and a fractional bandwidth of 80.05% for multiple cells. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results.

    摘要: Defected ground structure (DGS) is frequently involved to improve the characteristic response of microwave devices. In this paper, investigation of DGS utilization for characteristic enhancement of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filter (BPF) composed of complimentary-split-ring-resonator (CSRR) is presented. The filter is deployed on an FR4 epoxy dielectric substrate with the thickness of 1.6 mm and the dimension of 45 mm × 40 mm. The BPF which is designed by two reversely arranged CSRR incorporated on the SIW conductor surface provides passband extension at higher frequency producing the bandwidth response around 9 GHz. However, the use of CSRR also provides some unsatisfactory response at high frequency region requiring for the enhancement. By involving DGS into the BPF, the characteristic response at high frequency region could be enhanced with the bandwidth response achieves up to 10% improved.

  • Multibeam Monopulse SIW Slot Array Antenna

    摘要: A multibeam slot array antenna is proposed in the 10-GHz band for a monopulse tracking system with resolution enhancement techniques. The antenna architecture combines a four-subarray SIW slot antenna, a multibeam-forming network of microstrip Rotman lens array, and a SIW comparator of four-quadrant monopulse technique. A method to form difference patterns in both E-plane and H-plane for mutibeams is presented, and the method can improve the accuracy of angle detection for all beams. The key point of the method is to compensate the phase difference caused by the beam deflection between two subarrays (quadrants) by constraining input delay lines of the Rotman lens array. To validate the proposed concepts, an antenna prototype is realized and measured. The experimental results demonstrate a scanning range of ±36° with -5 dB crossover level between two adjacent sum beams in the E-plane. The corresponding beams of difference pattern are generated in E-plane and H-plane via the monopulse comparator to enhance angle resolution. The multibeam monopulse system can achieve gains between 21.7 dBi and 23.5 dBi for all sum beams at the center frequency of 10 GHz. The lobe imbalances are less than 1.1 dB and null depths are lower than -16 dB for all difference patterns. This multibeam monopulse slot antenna can be applied in radar and communication systems requiring beam-scanning capabilities and target tracking.

  • DESIGN AND REALIZATION OF CIRCULAR POLARIZED SIW SLOT ARRAY ANTENNA FOR CUBESAT INTERSATELLITE LINKS

    摘要: This paper presents the design and fabrication of an antenna based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) for intersatellite crosslinks in C-band. The entire antenna consists of two elements of SIW slots array that is fed by a hybrid 3 dB directional coupler. The entire SIW slots array antenna is circularly polarized (CP), and each element has four longitudinal slots. The element’s e?ective ?eld matching is realized with a microstrip to SIW transition. The antenna design has been evaluated with its return loss, gain plot, and radiation pattern characteristics to validate the fabricated antenna. The fabricated prototype antenna radiates a left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) electromagnetic wave with the peak gain of 5 dB and o?ers approximately 2% AR bandwidth around 5 GHz.

    摘要: This paper presents a substrate integrated waveguide Butler matrix with a modi?ed hybrid coupler, operating from 28 to 32 GHz. The modi?ed hybrid coupler is realized by using 90? hybrid coupler followed by a ?45? compensating phase shifter. Thus, 45?/135? output phase differences can be obtained using this type of coupler. Compared with the equal-length unequal-width phase shifter, the compensating phase shifter exhibits better phase characteristics, with only 3? phase error over 28–32 GHz. Because the phase of compensating phase shifter is not realized by taking the phase introduced by the crossover as a reference, it gives great ?exibility to the design of compensating phase shifter. Adopting the modi?ed hybrid coupler, the designed Butler matrix features the output phases with peak to peak error of 13? and wideband performance from 28 to 32 GHz. The slot array fed by the Butler matrix can radiate four slanted beams with acceptable measured gains, in the range of 9.7~12 dBi for port 1 excitation and 8.4~11.1 dBi for port 2 excitation. The radiated beams can reach a wide azimuthal coverage between ±61?.

  • Circularly Polarized SIW DRA Fed by Ridge Gap Waveguide for 60??GHz Communications

    摘要: A compact planar dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is designed based on the sub-strate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology for 60? GHz communications. The pro-posed? antenna is constructed from a multilayered dielectric substrate separated by metallic sheets. A dog-bone shaped DRA is formed by perforating the upper dielectric sub-strate?with air holes surrounding the dog-bone structure. The DRA?is surrounded by metal-lic vies connecting two metal sheets above and below the substrate containing the?DRA. The DRA is fed through a slot coupled microstrip?transmission line?printed below the slot. The ridge-gap waveguide technology?(RGW) is used in the feeding layer to suppress the surface wave?surrounding the microstrip transmission line and improve the peak gain. The RGW?unit-cell structure has stop-band of 46–95?GHz. The SIW DRA introduces imped-ance bandwidth from 59.4 to 60.4?GHz (1.67% referenced to 60 GHz)?with peak gain of 6.78 dBi. The circular polarization (CP) is achieved by the rotation of the dog-bone shaped DRA by 45°?with respect to the feeding slot. It produces left-hand CP with a bandwidth of 0.22?GHz?(0.36%). A 2 × 1 SIW-DRA elements are designed with sequential rotation and phases for CP bandwidth enhancement. The peak gain increases to 9.1?dBi, and a broad-band AR of 4.8?GHz (8%) is achieved. 2 × 2 SIW-DRA elements with 90° orientation rota-tion angle and phases of 0, 90°, 180°, and 270° are designed. An improvement in the peak gain of 11?dBi is produced with wide AR bandwidth of 10.8?GHz?(18% from 54.2 GHz to 65?GHz) for 60?GHz communications.

  • Field Distributions Analyzed of Substrate Integrate Waveguide (SIW)

    摘要: In this paper, the relationship of full-mode substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW), quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) and eighth-mode substrate integrated waveguide (EMSIW) has been presented. Firstly, the characteristics of full-mode SIW were derived according to its field distribution and the equivalent relationship between the full-mode SIW and rectangular waveguide. And the parameters of the remaining three SIWs are obtained with the same method of the full-mode SIW. The analysis of these SIWs can provide a design guideline of microwave devices in application, especially in small size system.
