Design and implementation of a low profile polarization-reconfigurable transmitarray with linear polarized feed
摘要: A novel polarization-reconfigurable transmitarray with linear polarized feed is presented in this letter. Each element in the proposed transmitarray consists of two cascaded cross dipoles to achieve more than 310° of linear phase with transmission magnitude equal to or better than 0.8 dB. The proposed unit cell has a thickness of 0.22λ0, which leads to a low profile transmitarray compared with those conventional designs. The element behavior of low transmission loss has resulted in higher antenna efficiency. By properly rotating the feed antenna around the center and selecting the x- and y-dimension of each element, the proposed transmitarray can generate radiation patterns with different polarization states, including left-handed circular polarization (LHCP), right-handed circular polarization (RHCP), and linear polarization(LP). For the purpose of validation, a double-layer center-fed 11 × 11-element transmitarray prototype is manufactured and tested at X-band. Measurement results demonstrate the designed transmitarray realize both high gain performance and multiple polarization operation.

摘要: In this paper, we present a large phase range unit-cell for X-band passive transmitarray antennas. The unit-cell is designed by using the combination of cut-circular patches and cut-ring slots. A 3-bit phase resolution has been optimized to provide eight values of the transmission phase with a step of 45°. The bandwidth of -1 dB transmission magnitude reaches 21.3%. A 10x10-element transmitarray based on the unit-cell configuration has been simulated. The transmitarray antenna provides good radiation patterns and a high aperture efficiency of 52.1%.

Phased Transmitarray Antennas for 1-D Beam Scanning
摘要: A transmitarray antenna (TAA) fed by a phased array antenna (PAA) for one-dimensional (1-D) beam scanning is proposed at 10 GHz in this letter. The TAA is composed of two types of elements, i.e., the hexagonal subwavelength low-pass elements as well as the pure dielectric ones. The PAA feed is a 1-D printed dipole array loaded with the short-circuited dummy ones. The proposed PAA-fed TAA, with a feeding distance to TAA diameter ratio (H/D) of mere 0.375, achieves a peak simulated gain of 25.6 dBi at 0o scanning (corresponding to peak aperture efficiency of 57.5%) and a 3.13 dB gain drop for ±30o beam scanning, along with a ~2-dB beam crossover. The measured results agree reasonably well with the simulated ones, validating the proposed design.

Unit-Cell loaded with PIN diodes for 1-bit Linearly Polarized Reconfigurable Transmitarrays
摘要: In this letter, a reconfigurable unit-cell for transmitarray antenna working at X-band is presented. It is designed to provide 1-bit phase quantization using p-i-n diodes. The unit-cell is based on multi-layer frequency selective surfaces with the use of two substrates and a combination of a C-patch and a ring slot loaded by a rectangular gap. It is optimized using full-wave electromagnetic simulation and verified by using waveguide simulator. The experimental results show that the unit-cell provides two values of transmission phase with a step of 180° at 11.5 GHz. Furthermore, the unit-cell has a low thickness of 0.19λ0, and is low-cost and easy to fabricate.

摘要: This paper proposes an innovative method to improve the bandwidth of transmitarray antennas using a tapered transmission line approach. A novel three-layer perforated dielectric unit-cell is introduced: it is made up by a central layer, with a varying size square hole, and two linearly tapered matching layers. To validate the proposed solution, a wideband transmitarray composed by 60x60 elements and working in Ka-band has been designed and simulated. The simulated structure has a size of 15λ × 15λ and it provides a 1-dB gain bandwidth of 27.4%, an aperture ef?ciency of 45.3% and a gain of 31.1 dB at 30 GHz.

摘要: This paper reviews the recent research progress on reconfigurable reflectarrays (RRA) and reconfigurable transmitarrays (RTA) at Tsinghua University. Numerous antenna designs are presented, including W-band RRA, 2-bit RRA, 10240-element RRA, 2-layer RTA, and current-reversal RTA. Furthermore, the RRA and RTA demonstrate a promising potential in advanced wireless systems. As an example, a RRA-based security imaging system is illustrated in details.
