  • Dual-Linear Polarized Phased Array with 9:1 Bandwidth and 60° Scanning off Broadside

    摘要: We present for the first time a novel dual-linear polarized tightly coupled dipole array (TCDA) with integrated balun operating across a 9:1 bandwidth, from 2GHz to 18GHz. This dual-linear polarized array employs a tightly coupled dipole topology and scans down to 60° from boresight. The overall geometry consists of cross-located tightly coupled dipoles integrated with a folded Marchand balun that serves as an impedance transformer to achieve a wideband feeding network. Notably, the traditional dielectric superstrate is replaced with double layers of frequency selective surfaces (FSS) to enable scanning down to 60° in both E-, H-, and diagonal (D-) planes across the entire band. The design achieves VSWR<3 across 2 to 18GHz at broadside. This dual-polarized array is also demonstrated to have a good polarization isolation of -20dB for most of the band. The array’s total height is less than 12mm (λlow/10). The design is validated through fabrication and testing of an 11×11 prototype. Measurements of this prototype are presented and are in good agreement with simulations.

    摘要: An analytical solution of an impedance synthesis problem for a two-dimensional dipole antenna array is obtained. The array consists of thin impedance electric dipoles whose centers are located at nodes of a planar rectangular grid with double periodicity. Radiation patterns of each dipole in the array does not differ from that of an isolated dipole. A new method for wide-angle scanning of the array radiation pattern, combining the simultaneous variation of phases of the excitation currents in the dipoles and of their surface impedances is proposed.

  • Wide-angle scanning circular polarization phased array based on polarization rotation technology

    摘要: A wide-beam circular polarization (CP) antenna and a wide-angle scanning phased array based on novel polarization rotation reflective surface (PRRS) are proposed. The CP wide-beam pattern is obtained by the combination of the radiation wave from the patch antenna and the orthogonal reflected wave from the PRRS with a 90(cid:1) phase difference. The proposed CP wide-beam antenna obtains the patterns with the 3-dB beamwidth more than 136(cid:1) and the axial ratio (AR) beamwidth more than 132(cid:1) in the xoz-plane. Furthermore, an eight-element phased array based on the wide-beam CP antenna element is also developed. The measured results show that the main beam of the array can scan from ?65(cid:1) to 65(cid:1) with a gain fluctuation less than 3 dB and the ARs at every scanning angle less than 3 dB.

  • Research on a Novel Kind of Dual Polarized Stacked Printed Antenna

    摘要: This paper presents a dual polarized antenna with high isolation for a wide-angle scanning phased array radar. For the proposed antenna, the electronic and magnetic resources are realized through a printed monopole antenna and a slot ring antenna, respectively. A metal reflector ground was introduced to achieve the unidirectional pattern, and the ratio of front to back of the pattern was improved. The printed monopole and slot ring antenna are fed by the coaxial and electromagnetic couplings, respectively. The radiation fields emitted by the electronic current resource and magnetic current resource are approximately orthogonal to each other among large space ranges. The measured port isolation of the designed antenna is above 20 dB, and the wide beam performance can be observed. The feasibility of the proposed antenna scheme is verified.

  • UWB Dual-polarized Dipole Array with Dielectric and FSS Superstrate and 65o Scanning

    摘要: We report the design of an ultra‐wideband, dual‐polarized, tightly coupled dipole array (TCDA) with an integrated balun for wide angle scanning. A dual‐pol dipole design enables massive bandwidth, large scanning volume, and high polarization purity, concurrently. To achieve wide angle impedance matching without exciting surface waves, two types of superstrates are evaluated on a finite array: 1) dielectric superstrate and 2) novel planar frequency selective surface (FSS). The latter architecture is capable of scanning 70° in E Plane and 65° in H Plane and shows, on average, 5° scanning improvement to the former. The impedance bandwidth is 5.25:1 (0.8‐4.2 GHz) at the broadside (VSWR<2). The bandwidth reduces to 4.3:1 (0.9‐3.9 GHz) when maximum scanning angle or θmax increases to 65° for the H plane and 70° for the E plane (VSWR < 3.2). The proposed array is a great candidate for wide‐angle wide‐band scanning applications covering the entire L and S bands.

    摘要: A linear dipole array based on wideband electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) is designed in this paper. The linear array is organized along the H plane and the simulated results of an infinite array show that it features a bandwidth of 24.1% (from 5.1 to 6.5GHz) while scanning to 70° in the H plane with VSWR<2.5. Then, a 1×20 finite linear dipole array based on the above element configuration is designed. The array has the ability to scan up to 75° with a gain reduction less than 3 dB at 5GHz, and scan up to 80° with a gain reduction less than 3 dB at 5.7GHz, and scan up to 88° with a gain reduction about 4 dB at 6.1GHz.
